Overview: The Arcam rCube
is a portable, compact high-fidelity iPod speaker system with wireless
audio streaming capabilities. The rCube is designed to be small in size, but big
in sound. The Arcam rCube features an integrated iPod dock to connect your iPod
or iPhone for audio/video playback. Using optional wireless transmitters (sold
separately), the rCube can wirelessly receive music from your computer or iPod/iPhone,
enabling you to bring music to any room in your home. The rCube is also very
intuitive and easy to use. It features touch sensitive top-panel controls and
includes an IR wireless remote control. The rCube can operate off of standard
household current or its integrated rechargeable lithium battery. A built-in
carry handle offers greater portability.
Audio Features
Compact Design: The Arcam rCube features a compact,
"cube-like" design. Yet, its still powerful enough for a party, but also
engineered to deliver exceptional clarity at low volume.
4-Layer PCB: The rCub uses a 4-layer PCB (printed circuit board) to
ensure optimum layout for low noise operation and are housed in a cast metal
enclosure to control EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) emissions.
Sealed Enclosure: The rCube features a sealed and braced enclosure.
The rCube's damped enclosure is constructed from aluminum, 1/2" MDF, and a
triple-layer composite to prevent vibration and resonance.
90-Watt Amplifier: The
rCube employs a built-in 90-watt amplifier (20-20,000Hz @ 0.5 THD) which is
divided between two tweeters and two woofers for room filling sound.
- Dual Tweeters:
10-watts x 2-channels (in 6-ohm, @ 1kHz, w/ 0.1% THD)
- Dual Woofers: 35-watts
x 2-channels (in 4-ohm, @ 100Hz-3.7kHz, w/ 0.1% THD)
Dual Two-Way Speaker Design: The Arcam rCube utilizes a dual two-way
speaker design to create a spacious sound from the small iPod speaker system.
The rCube features two 1" aluminum dome tweeters and two 4" midbass
drivers.
- Dual 1" Dome Tweeters: The rCube features two side-mounted 1" dome
aluminum tweeters which are angled 5-degrees forward. This creates an
enveloping 270-degree sound field.
- Dual 4" Midbass Drivers: The rCube's two 4.0"
midbass drivers are in a back-to-back force-cancelling configuration to
maximize bass output and minimize internal vibration.
Bass Button: The rCube employs a sophisticated bass enhancement
function that is designed to compensate for the reduction in bass output that
occurs when the rCube is not placed near a wall or corner. The natural acoustics
near room walls reinforce the bass output of the rCube (in this case you will
not need to use the Bass enhancement function).
Placement: The rCube sound great almost anywhere. Side-mounted,
front-angled drivers allow the rCube to produce high-quality sound over
270-degrees. The rCube is designed to sound best when placed in the corner of a
room. In this position, the side-firing drivers reflect sound off walls to
produce a more spacious sound.
Note: The side-firing drivers work best when they are not
obstructed. Do not put the rCube in a confined space. For example: Do not
place the rCube on a bookshelf with books on either side as this will block
the sound.
Integral Carry Handle: The rCube is designed to be easy to carry around the house. A simple flap
(dust-cover) on top of the rCube opens to reveal a sturdy carry handle for
transporting your rCube. The hidden handle
under the dust cover comfortably fits your hand, so you can carry the rCube from
room to room.
Note: Make sure to
remove the power supply and your iPod/iPhone before carrying the rCube.
iPod Dock/Aux Input
iPod/iPhone Dock: The Arcam rCube features an integrated top-panel
iPod dock to connect your compatible iPod or iPhone. The rCube supports audio
playback, video output, remote control, and charging of your docked iPod/iPhone.
Audio Playback: The rCube supports audio playback of your
iPod/iPhone's music, podcast, and audiobook files.
Music Navigation: The Arcam rCube's supplied wireless IR remote
control lets you navigate your iPod/iPhone's menus, control basic playback functions,
and switch play modes. You can also continue to operate your iPod/iPhone from
its clickwheel or touchscreen.
- Menu Navigation: You can navigate through the menus of your
docked iPod/iPhone to find your music by Playlist or Category (Artist,
Album, Song, Genre, Composer, etc.).
- Basic Playback: The rCube offers Play/Pause, Fast-Forward/Rewind,
and Skip (previous/next) playback functions.
- Play Modes: You can switch between Repeat (track, playlist/folder)
and Random (playlist/folder) playback modes.
Note: These functions are only available for docked iPods and
iPhones. They are not available when and iPod/iPhone is connected
wirelessly.
Video Output: In addition to playing audio, the rCube can
output video from supported iPods/iPhones. Video playback from compatible iPod/iPhones
is possible via the rCube's composite or component video outputs. When a
video-enabled iPod/iPhone is docked and playing, video is routed to the unit's
composite and component video outputs on the rear-panel. Your connected iPod/iPhone will
only output video files and does not output metadata, menus, or applications.
Note: Composite and component video cables not supplied. For a
component video connection a proprietary accessory cable is required (sold
separately from Arcam).
Battery Charging: The dock connector on top of the rCube charges
your iPod or iPhone while connected. Charging can be disabled using the supplied
remote control. The rCube can charge your iPod/iPhone when operating with AC
power or Battery power. iPod/iPhone charging is not available in Standby mode.

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may
change functionality results. If you download a newer software
version, you may need to reset the device and your iPod/iPhone to
regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to revert
to the older software version or wait until a newer software update
is available.
Auxiliary Input: The rCube is equipped with a rear-panel 3.5mm
auxiliary input for connecting an CD player or portable MP3 player.
Upgradeable: The rCube has a USB (type-A) port on the rear-panel for
future upgrades via a USB thumbdrive. This allows additional features to be
added and allows compatibility with yet to be released iPods and iPhones. Visit www.arcam.co.uk for the latest
firmware.
Note: The rear-panel USB port is only for future upgrades. It does
not play music files nor does it interface with computers.
Wireless Streaming
Kleer Technology: The Arcam
rCube features proprietary Kleer Technology lossless streaming. This allows
wireless audio streaming between rCubes, your iPod/iPhone/iPad, and your
computer. Optional wireless transmitters are required (sold separately). Kleer
lossless technology offers full-bandwidth "CD-quality" music streaming with no
drop outs.
iPod Streaming: The Arcam
rWand wireless Apple-compatible transmitter (776RWAND,
sold separately) lets you wirelessly stream music from Apple iPod, iPhone, or
iPad to the Arcam rCube. The rWand wireless Apple-compatible transmitter simply
plugs into your iPod's, iPhone's, or iPad's dock connector. Once connection is
made, you can wirelessly stream music from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to the
Arcam rCube.
Note: You cannot stream
video or still images to the rCube from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
Computer Streaming: The
Arcam rWave wireless USB transmitter (776RWAVE,
sold separately) lets you send music wirelessly from your computer (PC or Mac)
to the rCube. The rWave wireless USB transmitter simply plugs into a free USB
(type-A) port on your computer. Your computer will then recognize the
transmitter as a sound device. Once this connection is made, you can wirelessly
send music stored on your PC or Mac computer to the Arcam rCube.
Note: You cannot stream
video or still images to the rCube from your computer.
Multiple Cube Steaming: Music can be streamed to up to four
rCubes simultaneously from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad using the Arcam wireless
Apple-compatible transmitter (rWand, sold separately);
or from your PC/MAC computer using the Arcam wireless USB transmitter (rWave,
sold separately).
Cube-to-Cube Streaming: Any rCube can wirelessly stream
music to another rCube in the same vicinity, sharing music simultaneously with
other rooms in a house. An rCube can share music with up to 8 other rCubes or
rDacs (77RDAC), or 8 pairs of Kleer headphones. This allows one docked iPod/iPhone
or auxiliary source
to be transmitted to any room in your home.
Remote Control
Wireless Remote Control: The rCube comes complete with an IR
remote control for wireless operation of the iPod speaker system and your docked
iPod/iPhone. The remote contains buttons like those found on the top-panel of
this unit, such as Power, Source, and Volume. In addition, the remote can also
be used to navigate through menus and tracks on your docked iPod/iPhone and
change the iPod/iPhone play mode (repeat/random).
Note: The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V "coin-type"
lithium battery (included).
Power Requirements
7 Separate Power Supplies: There are a total of seven separate power
supplies feeding the digital and analog sections of the rCube to avoid
inter-modulation and reduce noise.
Power Requirements: The Arcam rCube can be powered using standard household AC current or from its
integrated rechargeable battery.
- AC Power: The rCube
can operate with standard household AC current (110-120V) using the
supplied external AC power supply and detachable AC power cord.
- Battery Power: Offering true portability, the rCube is fitted with a heavy-duty Lithium-Ion
