    Music Hall USB-1

Written By Bill Abernathy, Lewisville, TX on Thursday, April 25, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice turntable. The setup was really easy with good instructions. The stylus is good. It is pretty rugged, too. I used the USB input from the turntable to digitize some of my old vinyl. The supplied software worked well, also. If you are looking to digitize some of your old vinyl without breaking the bank, this is a good value.
    Pros:
Easy to set up. Rugged. Works as advertised.
    Cons:
None, really. Pretty happy with this rig.

A Great Turntable -- Very Happy

Written By RickyA, Sammamish, WA on Saturday, December 29, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this USB turntable specifically to convert a collection of LPs, some titles dating back to the 50's, to MP3 format, and it delivered exactly what I wanted. It's a beautifully designed, engineered and constructed unit and I am very pleased with its clean, distortion-free playback into my stero receiver via its PHONO jacks, and into my Windows 7 PC via USB. The AudioTechnica phono cartridge is a bonus that, in large part, enables the superb performance. In the days before digital stero when much of music was on vinyl, I always used AT cartridges because of their very high quality and performance. The included paper Instruction Manual is a little brief, but adequately got me through setup and into my first recording session. I was able to convert the music content of an entire LP on the first try using the included "Audacity USB Recording and Sound Editing Software". The software includes detailed browser-based Quick Help and a user's Manual. I should note the Audacity software requires updating after installaton to version 2.0.2, and it initially lacks MP3 encoding software due to patent restrictions. However, free MP3 encoding software is easily downloaded and installed on the PC. It took a while to discover in the Help and Manual sections just where the program update and MP3 encoder software was available for download. Once the MP3 encoder was installed, I was able to export files to MP3 and import them into my iTunes Music Library. Thanks Crutchfield!
    Pros:
    See my review.
    Cons:
    None - love it!

    Music Hall USB-1

Written By Ben L, Austin, TX on Wednesday, December 26, 2012

Very good turntable for the price. Sounds great and transfers my vinyl to to iTunes. So I'm happy with it.
    Pros:
Very easy to assemble; I was digitizing records a half an hour after opening the box.
    Cons:
The tone arm doesn't return after finishing a record. Not a problem when I'm using the turntable to digitize records but a minor hassle when I'm just listing to records.

    USB turn table

Written By Tim, Tampa, FL on Thursday, December 13, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a really good Turntable, and for the Money a good buy I would recommend. The only thing that I would like to have see is the ability of starting/stopping the player from the software. as it is you have to go to the Turn table and place the Needle on the record and then go back and start recording. this can be a bit challenging if you have it connected to both your computer and a Home sound system.
    Pros:
Well Built, Great sound, easy software to use.
    Cons:
    Doesn't have automatic/remote start/stop function

    Music Hall USB-1

Written By Will, Bismarck, ND on Tuesday, December 11, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's amazing how good my old vinyl's sound! This is my first turntable since the old days; my muscle memory is still there- removing the LP from the sleeve, holding it by its edges, gently squaring up the center hole with the turntable spindle, lining up the tone arm with the first grooves-that familiar snap when the needle first makes contact -got to remember to turn the volume down! The USB-1 performs flawlessly; my only gripe is that there's no automatic return of the tone arm at the end of the record-this is a totally manual turntable. The USB-1 has a built in preamp, which is good because my receiver (NAD C725BEE) has no preamp "out" for a turntable. I have yet to try the USB connection for digitizing albums.
    Pros:
Quiet; precise pitch; built in preamp; great sound--somewhat attributable to the NAD, to be sure. Pitch control (RPM adjustment)
    Cons:
No automatic return of the tone arm at the end of the record, resulting in lost of clicks and pops until you get over to the turntable to lift the tone arm.

Wonderful machine - Superbly Designed and Very User-Friendly

Written By MusicLover, Rockville, MD on Monday, October 29, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Music Hall USB-1 turn-table is a piece of electronic equipment that performs exactly as promised. In fact, for this review to be absolutely accurate, Crutchfield would have to furnish me about two more stars!! I have rarely used a machine that was so beautifully designed (dare one say flawless?) and made me so happy so quickly: Within two days of receiving my Music Hall USB-1 turntable, I was playing LPs into the provided Audacity software, and converting that into inputs to my iTunes library. The turntable is already fitted with an Audio-Technica 3600L cartridge (so that doesn't need to be installed), and the instructions clearly describe how to make the other adjustments (anti-skating, fine-tuning turntable speed, and cartridge balance). The turntable is completely manual (power switch, turntable ON-OFF, cartridge elevation lever), and has a strobe function for exact turntable speed tracking. If fact, the turntable is so good (incidental to the USB function) that it may quickly become my primary turntable for record-playing enjoyment
    Pros:
Cartridge provided, ease of use, preamp not neded, easy to use software too. Many adjustments possible (speed, anti-skating, cartridge weight balance).
    Cons:
Needs additional software in order to burn CDs (but that is found free on the Internet)
