Our Product Research Team
At Crutchfield, you'll get detailed, accurate information that's hard to find elsewhere.
That's because we have our own in-house Product Research team — they open the box,
verify contents, check the owner's manual, and record dimensions, features and specs.
We stay on top of new products and technologies to help people make informed choices.

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers
feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using
less power.
Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is
a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what
combination of speaker materials create the least resonance. Eliminating
resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low
distortion.
Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce
complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and
manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses
a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in
motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment,
and suspension to yield the best possible performance.
Composite Cones: The Polk DXi 6500 system features a
Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofers. These composite cones
feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients
and finer detail.
Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved
durability, the woofers use rubber surrounds.
Mounting: Out of the box the DXi 6500 woofers are a direct
replacement for many standard 6-3/4" applications. Two mounting brackets
are included with holes matching standard 6-1/2" (3-hole), Ford 6-1/2"
(asymmetrical 4-hole), and various 6-3/4" applications. Without using the
mounting brackets the speaker also fits into many standard 6-1/2" openings,
but with a four hole pattern is not a direct replacement (new screw holes would
need to be drilled; in this instance mounting depth would be 1.984" and
mounting height 0.468"; this application does not sort in the Crutchfield
Vehicle Selector because using the mounting bracket requires no modification,
and is therefore the preferred 6-1/2" mounting method).

Silk Dome Tweeters: The 1" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer
composite dome tweeters provide clear, detailed highs.
Neodymium Magnets: Each tweeter employs a light-weight
neodymium magnet for better efficiency.
Mounting: The supplied mounting cups allow you to surface or
flush mount the tweeters. The tweeters swivel in the flush-mount housings,
allowing you to adjust them for optimum imaging.

Crossovers
Design: The outboard Butterworth crossovers are 2-way with a
4 kHz crossover point; both the high-pass and low-pass output slopes are 12
dB/octave.
Tweeter Level Switch: You can adjust the output of the
tweeter to match a level appropriate to your vehicle or your system. On the end
of crossover (opposite the terminals) the switch can be set to -3 dB, 0 dB, or
+3 dB.
Protection Circuit: Each crossover has a built-in electronic
circuit that protects the tweeter from accidental overdriving.
Crossover Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are
screw terminals. The terminals will accommodate the included wire or spade
connectors up to 0.35" wide.
Mounting: There are two mounting holes in the base of each
crossover; the cover must be removed to install the mounting screws.
Crossover Dimensions:
- Width: 3.095"
- Height: 1.072"
- Depth: 5.029"
