Features
Detection
Capability: The Bel Pro RX55 includes
full X, K, SuperWide Ka, Ku and Safety Warning System radar capability, front
and rear laser detection, and digital signal processing for superior range and
fewer false alarms. You can program the unit to enable all bands at once or you
can select one or more bands to turn off (once you have determined there are no
traffic radar units using the disabled bands in your area).
Pop Mode
Detection: The RX55
includes protection against "Pop Mode" radar, a relatively new feature for radar
gun manufacturers. It works by transmitting an extremely short burst, within the
allocated band, to identify speeding vehicles in traffic. Once the target is
identified, or "popped", the gun is then turned to its normal operating mode to
provide a vehicle tracking history.
Display:
The RX55's alphanumeric
display consists of 280 individual LEDs to provide an intuitive ultra-bright
display of signal strength and text messages. When radar is detected, the unit
displays the band (X, K or Ka), and a precise bar graph of the signal strength.
When the RX55 detects laser, the display will show "LASER".
Alerts:
This unit features
three methods of alerting you that the detector has received a signal: Audible
alerts, Visual alerts, and Voice alerts.
Audible
Alerts: The RX55 uses a
Geiger-counter-like sound to indicate the signal strength and type of radar
signal being encountered. When you encounter radar, a distinct audible alert
will sound and occur faster as the signal gets stronger. When the signal is very
strong, the audible alerts will blend into a solid tone. Each band has a
distinct tone for easy identification.
Brightness
Modes: The RX55 has
three display brightness settings, plus a Dark Mode.
Each press of the
Brightness button cycles through Maximum, Medium, Minimum, and Dark. In the Dark
Mode, the power on indication changes to a dim AD, HD or CD (AutoScan Dark,
Highway Dark, City Dark), and only audible alerts are used when the RX55 detects
signals.
Programming:
There are 7 user-selectable options to allow you to customize the RX55 to your
own preferences. The programmable categories include Pilot (Power-on Indicator),
Voice Alerts, Power-on Sequence,
AutoMute, City Mode
Sensitivity, SWS detection, and VG2 detection.
Pilot
(Power-on Indicator):
The Power-on indicator can be a full word ("Highway") or a single letter ("H").
When the detector is in the Dark Mode, the indicator will be two letters
(HD--highway/dark).
Vehicle
Voltage: The voltage
indicator will provide a digital readout of the vehicle's battery voltage. When
the voltage falls below 10.5 volts or rises above 16 volts, the detector will
give you a low voltage or high voltage warning and sound an audible alert.
Voice Alerts:
When the Voice Alerts are activated, all radar, laser and Safety Warning System
alerts (when programmed on) will be accompanied by a digital voice. When Voice
Alerts are off, only the audio tones will be heard during an alert or SWS
message. The RX55 has a total of 64 digital voice messages.
Power-on
Sequence: When the RX55
is first turned on, the standard power-on sequence includes a series of displays
followed by a brief X-band alert. If any bands have been disabled, a double
X-band alert and corresponding message will alert you that one or more bands
have been turned off.
If you desire a quicker
power-on sequence, you can switch to "Fast Power-On" which provides only a
single X-band alert if all bands are enabled, and a double X-band alert and a
corresponding message if any bands have been turned off.
Signal
Strength Meter: The
RX55's standard bar-graph signal strength meter only displays information on a
single radar signal. If there are multiple signals present, the detector's
internal computer determines which is the most important threat to show on the
bar-graph meter.
AutoMute:
With the AutoMute feature on, audio alerts will initially be at the volume you
set, but after a few seconds, the RX55 will automatically reduce the volume
level, to keep you informed, but not annoyed. With AutoMute off, audio alerts
will remain at the volume you set for the duration of the radar encounter.
City Mode
Sensitivity: The
detector's City Mode significantly reduces X-band sensitivity to reduce
annoyance from X-band intrusion alarms and motion sensors. In addition to the
Standard City Mode, you can further reduce X-band sensitivity by selecting "City
Mode/Low X". If you are absolutely certain there are no X-band traffic radar
units in the area, you can select "City Mode/No X" and the detector will not
respond to any X-band signals.
Safety
Warning System: The Safety Warning
System, or SWS, uses a modified K-band radar signal to alert you of upcoming
highway construction, road hazards, weather-related hazards, travel and
convenience information and emergency/slow-moving vehicles. The SWS system has
64 possible text messages that can be displayed on the RX55.
VG-2 Alerts:
The detector is undetectable by VG-2 detection
devices, and will alert you when such a device is in use near your vehicle.
During the alert, the unit continues to detect other signals.
Earphone
Jack: A 3.5mm mini-jack is provided on
the side of the unit for plugging in an earphone in environments with high
ambient noise levels. When an earphone is connected, the internal speaker is
disconnected.
Mounting:
You will get optimum performance from the
detector if you mount it at a point approximately in the center of the vehicle,
as low as possible on the front windshield without obstructing the view of the
road to the front or rear. The detector can be mounted in two ways:
-
Windshield Mount: The supplied
windshield mount adheres the detector to the windshield with two suction
cups. The angle can be adjusted for best visibility.
-
Dashboard Mount: Using the
supplied self-adhesive pads, you can attach the detector to the dashboard.
