Features
Overview: The Maxell AirStash (Model A02) is a pocket-sized, wireless
USB flash drive with a slot for an SD card. The built-in media server lets you
share documents, stream music and video files, and view or import photos via
Wi-Fi. It is optimized for use with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, and compatible
with many smartphones, tablets, and computers. The unit weighs only 1.4 ounces,
and comes with an 8GB SDHC memory card.
Standards: AirStash is compatible with devices that adhere to the
following standards:
- USB: USB 2.0 high speed compatible hosts supporting the Mass Storage device
class, using a USB port providing bus power.
- Memory Cards: SD and SDHC cards (FAT formatted) up to 32GB. SDXC
cards, ranging in size from 64GB to 2TB, are currently supported when
formatted in FAT32 format.
- WiFi: 802.11 b/g/n devices with compatible apps and/or HTML
browsers. Wireless range is up to 160 feet (line-of-sight). AP mode
connectivity; Client Mode upgradeable. Security: WEP 128-bit, WPA2
upgradeable
Power Requirements: AirStash has a built-in, non-replaceable
rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery, which is charged via its USB Type A plug.
The USB port should provide at least 500mA of current for a normal charge.
AirStash will reach a full charge in approximately 2 hours; much longer if the
power source supplies less than 500mA. With a full charge, AirStash should
provide up to 7 hours of continuous usage. If you are charging AirStash with
your computer, you can simultaneously access the files on the inserted SD card.
If you use a USB-AC adapter, you can use AirStash via wireless while it is
charging.
File Transfer: With AirStash plugged into your computer, you can
transfer files to and from the inserted memory card. This can be done by simply
dragging and dropping the files between the computer and the AirStash drive. You
can load photos, videos, movies, music, and documents to the AirStash.
Wireless: AirStash has a built-in wireless access point that allows a
compatible client device, such as a smartphone or tablet, to directly connect to
AirStash without requiring a wireless router or additional access point.
AirStash works with most WiFi enabled devices, including iPad, iPhone, iPod
touch, Android, Windows Phone, Kindle Fire (does not stream music), Mac OS,
Windows, and Linux. (Some devices may work with limited functionality.)
Note: It is not compatible with Blackberry devices.
AirStash+ App: The AirStash+ app, available from the Apple App Store,
provides a convenient and full-featured interface for accessing the media and
files on the memory card in the AirStash. Downloading the app to your device is required before trying to access files from AirStash.
Functionality: With AirStash, you can perform the following functions:
- View and Import Photos: You can easily view, share, and import
photos. After plugging your camera's SD card into AirStash's SD card slot,
your photos are instantly available on up to 8 wirelessly connected devices
simultaneously. You can view photos one at a time, or start a slideshow. You
can also import individual photos or a directory of photos from the SD card
to your connected device.
- Streaming Audio or Video Files: Audio and HD video files that are
stored on the SD card inserted in the AirStash can be streamed to your
connected device. The file will begin playing as soon as it has buffered
from AirStash. You can use the slider control to move backward or forward
within the song, or skip to the next file in the directory. Supported
formats for audio and video are determined by your device. HD video can be
streamed simultaneously to up to 3 people, each viewing a different file.
- Viewing Documents: Most types of documents will appear in the
file list in the AirStash. Some documents, including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, iWork, and PDF files, can be viewed directly in the AirStash+
app. Other documents may be supported by third-party apps (WebDAV), such as
Apple's Pages, Keynote, Numbers, WebDAV Navigator, or GoodReader. If the
supporting app is installed on your device, AirStash+ will prompt you to
open the file in the third-party app.
