Sanus

Our take on the Sanus BF24B Speaker Stands

by Ralph Graves

How about furniture-grade speaker stands that are not only stylish, but can actually help improve your speakers' performance? Sanus' Basic Foundations® stands give you all that in an affordable package!

Basic Foundation stands are made with sturdy MDF (the same material used in many quality speaker cabinets) to resist unwanted resonance. Their twin contoured pillar design offers rock-steady support. Speaker wires run down a groove between the pillars — a snap-in black cover completely conceals the wires from sight, leaving just the clean lines of the stand. The stands come with triangular isolation pads for the top plate, to protect the speaker's finish, and provide additional resonance damping.

Highlights:

  • stand height: 24"
  • top plate measures 6-1/2" x 6-1/2"
  • base plate measures 11-5/16" x 9-1/2"
  • supports 20 lbs.
  • floor spikes to help minimize vibrations
  • warranty: 5 years
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

    Features

Overview: The BF24b speaker stands are constructed of MDF, which offers superior strength and resists unwanted resonance. The twin contoured pillars are aligned in a "V" configuration, offering additional rigidity and providing for the Speaker Cable Management System. A cover snaps into channels on the back of the pillars, hiding the cables from view. The supplied floor spikes further minimize resonance and provide stability on carpeting. The special triangular isolation pads are placed on the top plate for speaker protection and acoustic isolation.

Note: Each stand can support up to 20 pounds.

    Dimensions:

    • Overall: W=11.273", H=22.625" (23.625" with spiked feet), D=9.457"
    • Top Plate: W=6.5", D=6.5"

    Sanus BF24B Speaker Stands

Written By David, Tucson, AZ on Sunday, January 13, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They are nice stands. However, this is one of those products that I believe the employees at Sanus, and its' parent company, don't actually use in their homes. The teeny, tiny speaker "pads" are only a couple of centimeters larger than being completely embarrassing. But, from a marketing standpoint, I can almost see why they are included. And then, we have; "The Hole". The is the hole on the top plate/whatever, almost in the center, where the speaker wire comes up and thru. I'm assuming no larger than 18 gauge. In the center? Where the speaker sits? On those teeny, tiny "pads"? I think NOT! What are they thinking? Overall, I like them. And they look and work very nice. Just forget about "The Hole" and buy some actual pads at your local supermarket.
    Pros:
Look nice. Work nice. Up to 20 pound speakers.
    Cons:
Teeny, tiny speaker "pads". The center, top wire hole.

    Does the job

Written By Rp, Colts Neck, nj on Saturday, December 08, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Cheap particle board construction made outside USA. Does the required job it was intended for.
    Pros:
    Easy to assemble
    Cons:
Easy to strip screw holes if too much screw torque is applied. Slightly larger base would increase stability.

    Junk!!

Written By Ahab's brother, Hawaii on Friday, April 27, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The stands are pure junk unbefitting Crutchfields' reputation. The support column holes don't line up properly and as a consequence, the screws crack the room. The supplied spikes for the base of the stand are cheap plastic and most don't fit properly, and must be hammered in.
    Pros:
Stands can be returned for full refund
    Cons:
Poor quality, cheap accessories parts, Screws (that attached top plate to columns) are NOT RECESSED) and protrude about 1/16 of an inch above plate and would scratch the bottoms of speakers

    Sanus BF24B Speaker Stands

Written By AlexW, Monroe, NJ on Thursday, November 03, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Sanus BF24B speaker stands look great and do the job quite well. However, the pillars that attach the base to the top part are made of some kind of pressed wood and when the screws are installed the pillars tend to split and crack. I was very careful about installing the screws as I had read previous reviews with the same problem. Still (3) pillars split/cracked when I installed the screws. Sanus replaced the pillars for me but upon trying the second time (2) pillars split again. The pillars are just too thin for the screws. You might want to get something with a different design or a thicker pillar.
    Pros:
Perfect height for my rear speakers and looks great. Sturdy enough.
    Cons:
The pillars are not made well. They are made of pressed wood and tend to split when installing the screws

    Solid, but not attractive

Written By AbbyK, Corning, NY on Sunday, July 24, 2011

I bought them for some black Klipsch speakers I had just bought. They are solid, hold the speakers well, and are priced right. The appearance, however, is more appropriate for a college room or very informal den than a living room or nicer home theater room. I ended up putting these in the attic unti l can find a user, and bought the Sanus NF24s from Crutchfield instead. They are much higher-end looking (appropriate for the price). If you can swing the extra money and aesthetics matter, get the NF24s. See my caveat in its review section.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are easy to build, cost effective speaker stands. One recommendation would
be to have a small hole in the top plate to connect to the speaker wire channel.

    Great product

Written By Audiologist, Washington, D.C. on Sunday, April 17, 2011

This is a fantastic product for the price. For people who are having trouble with the
wood splitting -- please follow the instructions. It clearly says do not use a power
tool, and do not over-tighten. Tighten the screws "hand tight' with a manual
screwdriver and you will be fine. Love them.

    Poor Quality!

Written By Diane, Morrison, CO on Tuesday, March 23, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As with another reviewer, my stands both cracked during assembly and I had to use wood glue to keep them from cracking further. I would not recommend these at all. Cheap materials as well. Spend the $$ and get better quality stands.

    Sanus BF24B Speaker Stands

Written By Charles, Baltimore, MD on Wednesday, May 20, 2009
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These have got to be the WORST speaker stands I've ever purchased. Made of thin pressed wood, two of the four pedastals arived already cracked. I had to wood glue them back together before assembly.

The platforms and bases are also made of thin, low quality pressed board - I had to touch up the bare spots with a black sharpie. The feet are not even metal - they're PLASTIC. They're also incredibly light weight. Sanus' other stands are great, high quality metal deals but these are NOT.

If you value QUALITY at all, do NOT buy these - save your $ for something better. At this low price I did not expect very much, and these are far, far worse than I expected.

    Great Speaker Stands

I purchased these for my Klipsch B3 bookshelf speakers and they work perfect. They are pretty sturdy and were pretty easy to put together. I am debating on whether or not to use a little velcro for added stability. I don't want my speakers to take a fall!

Written By Jim, Houston, Texas on Monday, March 30, 2009

The stands are made of quality material, have a very nice finish, and are
well designed. Their height is just right for the speakers with which they're
being used, and they look good and work well in the room. The price was
perfect for the budget. Crutchfield's service was simply amazing good:
helpful, courteous, and shipping was super prompt. Ordered in the
afternoon; shipped same day! Very pleased!

    Good functional stands

Written By Daniel, Simi Valley, CA on Thursday, March 26, 2009
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'd had my front left and right speakers sitting on the floor for over a year - they sounded pretty good down there, how much of a difference could it make? Well, after making numerous small improvements to my home theater after the purchase of my new plasma TV, I decided to give the stands a trial run and see if they made a difference. When these stands arrived I quickly assembled them and fired up an episode of Battlestar Galactica. I could immediately hear the difference! Everything - movies, TV, music - sounds much clearer with the speakers at ear level.

As for the stands themselves, I am very impressed with them for the price. Assembly was very easy requiring only a #2 Philips screwdriver. All the pieces fit together well. The stands are remarkably stable with the carpet spikes and I have no fear of them tipping over, even with my heavyish speakers on top of them.

All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase, and I have been unable to find anything comparable at this price. If you are looking for a good, solid, and inexpensive set of speaker stands, look no further than this set.

    Perfect For Me

These are easy to build, solidly constructed, look good and are very stable. I have a pair of near field monitors that are roughly 8" x 12" x 7" and these stands are perfect for the task. Just had a 3.5 earthquake and those puppies stuck on there like glue. Haven't found any negatives yet.

These are some very simple speaker stands to put up. I got them for my right and left channel speakers. U have to carefully screw the four screws in the wood when u putting on the top and bottom panels, but overall the speaker stands is very outstanding.

These stands are not just for speakers!

Written By Robert, Troy, NY on Monday, February 18, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I actually used one of these stands on each side of my center channel speaker, which is on its own 18" stand. The Sanus stands are supporting an 106" fixed frame projector screen. Mounting the screen on the wall in the front of the room was not an option because it is covered with acoustic panels. These stands worked out great and blend in nice.
