Metra

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna/amp remote turn-on
  • illumination
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

A+ All around

Installed in a 2005 BMW 3 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For price, ease of use finding what I needed on Crutchfields website(mobile), and how fast the product came to my door WITH great Schematics and explanation of installation. I have to say the service is Top Notch. Painless when this kind of setup could have multiple problems. A+.
Pros:
Price. Ability to find what I needed. Shipping charges(free), options for help which I didn't need. Quick mailing of more Crutchfield products to scan.
Cons:

Bmw harness

Written By Dennis J, Arecibo, Puerto Rico on Monday, February 25, 2013
Installed in a 2000 BMW 5 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect fit
Pros:
Easy installation for an aftermarket radio
Cons:
I recommend to not use the oem ground in the factory plug, just put the ground in another place because in the oem pin, and aftermarket radios pick an annoying noise.

Makes Installation easy

Written By Anonymous, Atlanta GA on Thursday, February 14, 2013
Installed in a 1997 BMW 5 Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This harness sure was easier than having to hard wire all the connections directly. It also allowed me to move things around by just disconnecting. All the wires were pre cut to make connecting easy. the only trick is really understanding which wire goes with what. Thank God for Crutchfield support!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There's not much to say, other than this felt as good as the stock harness. The plastic connector felt, looked and acted like a genuine BMW part. It was perfect and receiving it for free was unexpected and appreciated.
Pros:
High quality, OEM-quality

Had to modify this...really?

Written By MattN, Cameron, NC on Saturday, January 19, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Since I had to modify it, I'm only giving it one star. I put a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X696 in my 2003 BMW 325i (E46) along with the Axxess ASWC steering wheel control adapter. The BMW harness adapter doesn't have all the pins that are needed to connect everything. Luckily, there was one pin left over that I didn't use (orange one). I had to pull it out of its slot with a jeweler's screwdriver and put it into the one I needed it in. The molex-type connector used is not the same that's used in computers. I soldered the wires to make straight connections, but I wish I would've done that differently Lining up the ends and twisting them together before soldiering would make it easier to fit all the wires and adapters in the small DIN slot. I chose the solder (63/37) option to reduce signal loss.
Pros:
Good pin-out diagram
Cons:
Not all pins are there. Had to modify.

Took some time, but works well

Written By Adam, Cincinnati, OH on Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Installed in a 2000 BMW M
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I didn't realize I was going to have to solder each individual line together, which was incredibly frustrating, but once I took the time to do it properly everything sounds great. I have a small issue with the ground and it giving me engine feedback in the speakers just slightly, but all in all a good product that makes life easier.

90% there

Written By chris, allentown, pa on Friday, October 12, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great for connecting the main wires, but I have no idea why they got cheap and didn't include pins for ALL radio connections. I want to mount a steering wheel control and I either have to buy another adapter and extract pins from it, or cut into my factory harness. Bad cost cutting measure. Of course, if you don't care to add other accessories or tap into the other connections on the factory radio you don't care about my issue and it works 100%
Pros:
easy install, reasonable quality
Cons:
doesn't include all potential pins, just the main power / speaker connectors. no steering wheel adapter pin.

Does not work on all BMW's

Written By AJ, New Mexico on Tuesday, August 21, 2012
Installed in a 1990 BMW 735
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nothing wrong with this product except Crutchfield should have known that a wiring harness is not used on BMW's manufactured prior to 6/90. If I had paid for the harness, I would have been upset. What's surprising is that Crutchfield didn't catch this when my local stereo shop looked it up in ten seconds.

Perfect Solution

Written By 1995 BMW 325i, San Diego, CA on Wednesday, July 18, 2012
Installed in a 1995 BMW 325I
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It works perfectly. I have a 1995 BMW 325i with the 10 speaker HK system and it used to have the factory Alpine stereo. I was able to solder the adapter to my new Kenwood wire harness and everything works perfectly.
Pros:
Most of the wires are color matched for ease while soldering.
Cons:
The blue/white striped wire from the BMW harness must be connected to the blue solid wire on the new stereo harness. This will tell the amp to turn on and will give you sound. If this is not done, you won't get sound.

BMW Receiver Wire Harness

Written By rh, Philadelphia, MS on Friday, June 15, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good quality connector and wiring, no issues with the connection
Pros:
Had to call technical about the destination of the solid blue wire which I understood was to be left unconnected. The tech was right on top of it and knew exactly what need to be done to resolve the issue and told me how to connect it on the 2002 BMW Z3.

Free? Are you kidding?

Written By Commenace, Los Angeles, CA on Thursday, June 14, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It was free with the purchase of the head unit. Which is pretty awesome. Period.
Pros:
Totally works.
Cons:
I guess it would've been cool if it came pre-spliced for my particular head unit, but that may be asking too much.
