Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have one pair of preamp outputs to connect this harness.

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Wiring Harness Made It Simple

Written By hlynnbv, Arkansas on Tuesday, January 15, 2013
Installed in a 2002 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The wiring harness for the 2002 Mustang worked like a charm and the wire colors actually matched all the colors of the corresponding receiver colors which made it easy to double check against the wiring schematic provided by the receiver manufacturer and Crutchfield. I had only one question for Tech Support relative to an unused connector in the car that didn't connect to the new harness. He quickly related that it was not needed and he was right. All functons of the new receiver worked the first time without a hitch with this wiring harness. I soldered all the wiring connections and used heat shrink tubing and finally taped the loose wires of the harness together to make a really neat job and it all fit perfectly.
Pros:
Connectors fit the car's wiring harness and the receiver's connectors, wiring schematics were easy to read, permitted doing all the soldering of the wires on the bench rather than in the car, and Tech Support was fast and accurate.
Cons:
Needed to call Tech Support to assure myself that one connector from the car's harness wasn't needed.

Better sound by "not following" directions exactly

Written By TracyW, Grayson, GA on Tuesday, September 04, 2012
Installed in a 2003 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Harnesses worked great with my 2003 Mustang Convertible and the JVC KW-HDR720 I was adding. My stock radio had 3 harnesses connected to it. This kit only comes with 2. Doesn't seem to be an issue as the JVC is using all 8 speakers (4 tweeters and 4 large). Wire colors matched perfectly with my JVC's wires.

One tip -- The instructions specify plugging the RCA plugs on the second harness into the subwoofer RCA jacks on the stereo. On the JVC, that resulted in "dull" sounds. I tried plugging them into the "Front" line-out jacks instead and the sound came alive! Much better frequency response and fuller sound. Bass is pretty good as well. The JVC KW-HDR720 has 3 sets of RCA jacks on the rear of the unit -- Subwoofer, Front, and Rear. For me, the Front ones worked better.

For reference, my Mustang doesn't have the tweeter amp under the factory radio...they were driven off the factory radio and are now driven by the JVC (what you'd probably want anyway). I'm assuming the large speakers (2 front, 2 rear) are driven off 2 amps behind the back seat -- I never looked for those. Those seem to work well with the JVC utilizing the tip I gave above.
Pros:
Wire colors match my JVC stereo's wire colors
Cons:
Instructions specify using the RCA plugs in the subwoofer jack -- I got better sound by using the Front line-out jack

Receiver Wire Harness

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wiring harness worked fine. This was my first radio de-install and new intstall. Two calls to tech support one for mounting kit, the other for wiring got me back on track, There was nothing on the wiring sheet explaining where to put the blue/white Amplifier turn-on wires.
Pros:
tech support was great.
Cons:
wiring layout leaves a lot to be desired

Reciever wiring harness

Written By Nick, Puyallup, WA on Monday, July 16, 2012
Installed in a 2002 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall the instructions were really pretty good. Pretty much all the wires on the Harness from the Pioneer deck matched the new Mustang harness. The colors even matched, even though the instructions said they may not. The only exception is that my stock stereo had 3 separate harnesses and the wiring sheet said nothing about that. It would have been better if there was a note on the sheet explaining that the 2 new harnesses would replace the 3 from the stock deck. My call to Crutchfield took care of that question. Oh yeah, there was nothing on the wiring sheet explaining where to put the blue/white Amplifier turn-on wires. Another call to Crutchfield was needed for that.
Pros:
Overall the instructions were very helpful. Just a few minor additions to the instruction sheet would make these perfect.
Cons:
Just as I mentioned above, If there were a few changes to the sheets explaining the Amp turn-on wires and the 2 harnesses would replace the 3 then these would be perfect.

Ford Wire Harness # 120705519

Written By ALLEN, San Diego,CA. on Friday, May 11, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Kit "WILL NOT" work on 03 Ford Mustang Cobra with a MACH 460 System!!!
Pros:
The 16 pin connector worked OK!
Cons:
The MALE 8 pin connector would not connect to the FORD FEMALE 8 pin harness connector on my 03 Ford Mustang Cobra, Ford/Visteon CD6 Audiophile Mach 460 System; Ford P/N: 2R3T-18C815-AA.. The Connector is TOO BIG, and the two rows of 4 male pins are TOO CLOUSE and WILL NOT mate-up to the Ford female 8 pin connector. I went to about 10 different installers, and they ALL had the SAME CONNECTOR PROBLEM. I also took my radio with me TOO!!!

All I can say is, I questioned whether this would work with the '03 Ford Mustang Mach 1000 stereo system and all of the factory amplifiers, but it did! So far so good, plug and play!
Pros:
Works with Ford Mach 1000 stereo system.

Harness worked exactly like it should. Read other reviews saying it wouldnt work w/MACH 460. Mine worked. White plug a little tricky @ first just have to line pins up and really push on it.
Pros:
Whole lot easier than hard wiring new headunit.

2002 Mustang Convertable

Written By Bill D, Camby, Indiana on Thursday, March 22, 2012
Installed in a 2002 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The wiring harness is an excellent alternative to hard wiring the unit. The JVC KW-500 radio has about the same approach that the Crutchfield instructions use. If you have any type of wiring expierence, you should not have any problems. I noticed in the JVC instructions that it will warn you when you turn it on the first time if you have a wiring error. I cannot verify this because I got it right the first time. I did check to see if the plugs fit before I started wiring it up.
Pros:
excellent product
Cons:
May need more instruction if you have never wired anything like this before.

Incorrect Harness for my 2001 Mustang GT 'Vert

Written By John M., Allentown, PA on Friday, March 16, 2012
Installed in a 2001 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like other reviewers here, upon arrival, I noticed one harness (amp ground/power to RCA) doesn't fit my 2001 Mustang GT Convertible with MACH 460. The adapter is too small, and the factory jack is too large. I called support (very helpful) and they sent me the correct part #120705701 that day. They should offer a harness set that combines both of these parts to fit the Mustang correctly.

***If you have a '01-'03 Mustang with MACH 460, this harness WILL NOT fit correctly. Only one piece will fit. The other part required is in #120705701 (search this number up top and you'll see what I mean.)***
Pros:
One piece (factory reciever harness) fits.
Cons:
Other piece (amp power/ground to RCA) doesn't fit.

There's a second harness that could fit!!!!!

Written By PeteM, Plano, TX on Tuesday, December 27, 2011
Installed in a 2003 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I called Crutchfield - who by the way was remarkably helpful - and let them know I saw a different harness kit: Item# 120705701. They mail one out for free and it got here very fast. It took me about 4 weeks to get to trying new harness but Item# 120705701 seems to be PERFECT for my 2003 Mustang convertible. The speakers that are against the windows in front say 'Mach' on them if that helps. Thanks Crutchfield!!!! Top notch support.
Pros:
This kit makes it VERY easy to install. I think there was two different harnesses for 2003 Mustangs because the first harness that was sent had one connector that didn't fit quite right. I also saw another user with the same exact issue. Read more in rest of review!!!!
Cons:
The one connector that didn't fit quite right.

nice kit

Written By ChrisL, Baltimore, MD on Saturday, February 19, 2011
Installed in a 2001 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The kit is pretty nice. I've only installed a car stereo once and this makes it pretty easy. I
got stuck powering the Ford Mach-460 subwoofer but one call to Crutchfield got that
straight. There was only 1 small issue with the connections. The white connector did
not really snap-in tightly to the Ford connecter in the car. It kept coming unconnected. I
plugged it in as hard as I could and then wrapped the entire connection tightly with
electrical tape. Everything seesm to work fine but I'll have to run around this summer to
see if it stays connected. I figure it will since I wrapped it so tightly with the tape.

In general good, but the instrustions could be better. It wasn't clear on a couple points.
For example, it didn't make it clear that all the power supply lines needed to be together.
Probably should point out specifically which connections were not used.

Junk; does not work on 2002 Gt coupe mach 460

Written By Lane J, Huntsville, Alabama on Monday, December 27, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have installed car stereo products for a good part of my life and this wiring harness simply will not work. Car was a 2002 Ford mustang gt w/ factory mach 460 system. The factory plug controling the amplifiers WILL not fit into the harness crutchfield provides. It is to large. You can stick the two together, wiggle around the harness and you can hear the amps cut on and off. If you want to rig, do so at your on risk. I can see the harness coming loose over time. I see by reading the feedback here im not the only one with this problem.
