Kenwood

Our take on the Kenwood CMOS-210

by Buck Pomerantz

Kenwood's CMOS-210 rear-view camera is an excellent safety accessory to add to your Kenwood or Kenwood Excelon video receiver. This camera gives you a bright, wide 130-degree horizontal by 101-degree vertical view of what's behind your vehicle when you're backing up.

The camera renders a detailed 310,000 pixel resolution color image, and its highly sensitive CMOS sensor helps to eliminate distortion caused by nearby light sources like headlights. Mount the camera on your vehicle's rear bumper or license plate, route the wire through your car to your video receiver, and you'll never back over a garbage can again. The 5-foot long cable and 24-foot harness assembly fits in most vehicles and includes a composite video connector, so it'll work with almost any video receiver. Warranty: 1 year.

Features

Compatibility: The Kenwood CMOS-210 Universal Rear-View Camera can be used as a back-up camera with Kenwood in-dash monitors. However, the standard composite video output (RCA plug) extension cable makes it compatible with virtually any mobile video monitor.

Waterproof Chassis: The camera is built into a compact waterproof aluminum case, making it perfect for mounting outside the vehicle.

Super Wide Viewing Angle: The 130° horizontal and 101° vertical viewing angles provide an excellent near field view of anything behind you. The camera gives you a mirror image for rear view confirmation.

CMOS Optics: The 1/4" color CMOS image sensor has approximately 310,000 pixels to deliver a high quality picture.

Illumination Range: The rear-view camera provides an illumination range of approximately 0.9 to 100,000 lux. It offers less light distortion from nearby light sources.

Works well but a little pricy

Written By Andy, Santa Clarita, CA on Tuesday, May 28, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Camera works well. Not the clearest picture but everything is still easily seen. Have friends who bought much cheaper rear view cameras that didn't last long. So decided to spend a little more and hopefully get a longer life or if it. Been a about a month and no issues so far. Night vision is not bad with stock reverse lights but auxiliary lights help a lot.
Pros:
Nice wide viewing area. Cable is easy to run through smaller spaces.
Cons:
On the pricy side but hoping it will last. Hopefully I will get what I paid for. ;)

CMOS-210

Written By Joe G., New Britain, CT on Sunday, April 21, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed on a 2008 Toyota Tundra Double Cab. Difficult to find a place to mount . Finally had to cut a notch in the top of the license plate. Wiring wasn't bad except for the reverse wire connection, no directions, had to call Crutchfield for the location. It's under the passenger kick panel. Blue wire in an 11 pin connector. Once connected works great.
Pros:
Works with Kenwood DNX7190HD.
Cons:
No directions on where to connect the reverse wire. Had to call Crutchfield.

Excellent Product

Written By Optimus Prime, Charlottesville, VA on Monday, April 15, 2013

The CMOS-210 is a great camera! Wide angle views both horizontally and vertically are clear and defined. Works well in dark conditions with only the back-up lights. There is very little work associated with hooking this device up. Power, ground, and run wires to the back of your display. Mounting is easy and straightforward.
Pros:
+ Wide angle view both horizontally and vertically. + Great clarity in all light and no light conditions + Easy to install
Cons:
- A bit pricey

Kenwood CMOS-210

Written By JimD, East Alton, IL on Monday, February 25, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The camera works well in most lighting situations. Many rave about the huge field of view but I think it is too wide. It looks like you are using a fisheye lens and the distortion makes it difficult to orient yourself. The camera in my wife's car is a more normal view and more usable.
Pros:
Seems to be high quality, easy install.
Cons:
Field of view is too wide for me, difficult to tell where you are in relation to nearby objects/vehicles.

I used this for my 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer and paired it with the Kenwood DNX6990HD. Nice backup camera and excellent image quality even at night but get any bright lights and you get a whole lot of glare.

As Advertised

Written By Rich, Enterprise, AL on Friday, December 07, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As advertised. Good quality on camera both day and night.
Pros:
It's a backup camera? Pros, you don't run somebody over. It integrates with the car stereo perfectly. You put the car in reverse, the camera self activates and you see behind you.
Cons:
Installation, not hard, but labor intensive.

Great Value

Written By J. Boz, Trumbull, CT on Friday, November 09, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great value. Clear picture. I used this for my 2012 Pathfinder and paired it with the Kenwood DDX 719. I truly think it was a worthwhile investment.
Pros:
Clear picture.
Cons:
The only con which is truly no big deal is if you are in reverse and hot the brakes you can see the reflection of the red brake lights. But to be honest this is barely noticeable.

Good Camera

Written By AL H, Cincinnati,OH on Tuesday, September 11, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was fortunate to have a friend experienced in the art of routing wires through vehicles ( which IMO is the hard part). After hooking the cameras' output and power to the Kenwood 5190 the the unit was instantly recognized and functions perfectly. The image is crisp and completly useable in a wide variety of light levels. from bright sunlight to dim parking lot lighting.
