To produce bass, you need a sub, an enclosure, and an amplifier, and it can be little tricky to match them all up. A powered sub eliminates all the hassle, as the manufacturer designs the enclosure to house the sub and amp together. This all-in-one solution is especially useful in smaller vehicles, where there's no room to mount a separate amp, or in any vehicle where you need every bit of cargo space. Powered subs range from small, flat boxes that fit under your seat to larger boxes that go in your trunk. Our take on the Sound Ordnance B-8PT by Dominic Devito The Sound Ordnance B-8PT powered subwoofer turns the hard-to-fit spots in your vehicle into potent bass bastions, adding warmth and punch to your favorite music. You can fit this compact low-frequency factory under your car seat or in an out-of-the-way location in the cab of your truck. Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow convenient connection to just about any system, plus you can tweak the phase control, bass boost, and low-pass crossover for maximum firepower in your vehicle. A wired remote lets you take command of your bass from the driver's seat. The B-8PT's built-in amplifier sends 120 watts RMS to the 8" subwoofer, adding high-impact low notes that'll fortify your music. The Sound Ordnance logo means you'll get more than tremendous value and reliable performance the B-8PT is reinforced with a 3-year warranty so you can add it to your system with confidence. Quick impressions from the Lab Quick impressions from the Lab Comment by Robert Ferency-Viars Staff Writer - Creative, Written by Robert Ferency-Viars, Staff Writer - Creative, on 12/21/2011 12:41:00 PM I recently added the Sound Ordnance B-8PT powered sub to the back of my car, a Nissan Versa, and I'm very happy with it. It's just the right amount of bass for me, and I immediately started hearing notes that I'd never heard in my car before. If I turn up the sub, it booms really well - it's not shy! But I like my bass tighter and more focused, so I have the gain set about midway to keep it under control. It's great! The remote control knob lets me turn it down when my sons are in the car, so they don't have to put up with the pounding bass. Sound Ordnance B-8pt Has excellent sound and pressure ! I like hard rock and metal and this powered subwoofer pumps it out! I bought three of these two for me and one for Carl. We both give it five stars. Thanks Crutchfield for the excellent deals and service. Pros: Excellent sound, easy install, compact size, remote level control and no distortion. Cons: No cons. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 The Boomin' System Written By TrevorL, Quartz Hill, CA on Monday, April 29, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) This system was the perfect fit for my ol' beat up Pickup Truck! The unit mounted right under the passenger seat and the cables under the door trim, through the dash and to the head unit. I drilled a hole in one of the dash 'pop-outs' and mounted the bass level adjuster. I can turn down the bass when I want to listen to the sports talk and pump it back up when I want to bob my head and tap my foot. Thanks Crutchfield! Pros: Easy installation! Everything mounted easily. Cons: Had to remove the bench seat. I had never done that before--nothing wrong with the product. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Sound Ordnance Subwoofer Written By Mark R, Houston, TX on Saturday, April 27, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) The unit first of all came a day early which was awesome. This is the second order in a row that came early from these guys. The sub was exactly as described and has worked great. I have 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant and it really balanced out my upgraded factory speakers and head unit. The front speakers are 5 1/4's and the back are 6 x 9's. I set the crossover point for the sub woofers to just under 200 Hz and the other speakers to just above 180 Hz. The reason I mention this is because I spent a lot of time trying to find the 'peak' crossover point. This works really well for all types of music. Pros: Beautiful bass and perfect size Cons: This is an 8" sub woofer that works great in the confined space of the car. If you want the sound that makes your teeth rattle out of your head and annoy other drivers, you might want to use something else. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? First off like others have said if you want to shatter windows this isn't for you. However in the small standard cab not alot of area to fill. I was supprised for an 8" it does real well. Was the perfect filler for a stock system to get some bottem end. I placed it under my seat wish it had some kinda of mounting system other then velcrow. Pros: Better then expected for size and power, Great for vehicles for litte to no free space. Cons: No real mounting options, Took off one star for no mounting options. Other wise pretty nice all in one. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 This little sub rocks! Great value. Written By PaulS, Florida on Thursday, April 18, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I decided to purchase this sub to add much needed bass to my factory system without sacrificing space. I had it installed by a professional along with a new head unit and I have to say I am very impressed! I listen to mostly rock music but when I turn on hip hop it makes my rear view mirror vibrate. At the current price, it's a great value! Pros: Sound, takes up very little space Cons: None so far. Those who say it doesn't sound good must be using a factory head unit or expecting it to sound like two 10s in a box. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Perfect Compact Sub for a Compact SUV Written By Scott, Sacramento, CA on Thursday, April 18, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Ideal for what it is, an ultra compact under the seat 8" subwoofer (if you want to call it that). I have not heard other under seat subs, but i would imagine they're not much better than the Sound Ordnance and cost more $$$. I traded my Accord last year (2012) for a new Forester and didn't want to lose cargo space with one of those big, bulky/box subs...the B-8PT model fit the bill perfectly. Plus as i get older, i no longer need the deafening 1000 watt system you can hear a mile away, lol. I had an Infinity BassLink II (a powered 250 watt 10" sub) in my Accord and the B-8PT doesn't perform the same way, and i didn't expect it to. Instead, like a few other commenters have said, the B-8PT has a tight and punchy type bass. Overall, with most of the music i listen to i'm very satisfied with this sub given the price and its compact size...it would be very hard to beat this package. I got mine for $, recycled my Scosche wiring kit from the Infinity sub I had, and paid for the install...not bad for the total price installed. The way the bass performs of course depends a lot on how the music you listen to was recorded, but overall if you're looking for a compact, out of the way sub that will add some really really nice solid lows to your stock sterero, look no further, the B-8PT is a true performer. Like others have said this is not going to shake the doors off your car, but you will definitely feel the bass of course. I have mine under the passenger seat. Pros: Affordability, strong bass for most music, compact size fits perfectly under my Forester's passenger seat, fun packaging it was shipped in, and just the right amount of power to match with my completely stock stereo. Cons: Volume knob doesn't have an LED light to see it at night, i've had just a few (maybe three) songs where the sub made the song sound muddled and the bass was overwhelming and hard to listen to causing me to change the song (the settings are good for all other songs though, so that can't be the problem)...very minor, and not enough of an issue for me to knock my rating down to four stars. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Sound Ordnance Does It's Job Written By paryted, Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey on Monday, April 15, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I have this Sub hooked up to a new Alpine media player head unit. The install was straight forward. I put this system in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler because especially when the roof is in the garage during the summer months the sound quality of the stock system is horrible. This addition to my new install makes the kappa speakers installed in the stock spots sound really nice. The audio controls on the sub make it easy to fine tune the sound. They are easily accessible, you do not need a tiny screwdriver to make your adjustments. Overall it's a great product Pros: Small size, Easy access to the control knobs, Remote control knob that mounts with you to quickly raise or lower the overall volume, Cons: No spot to actually put screws as to really mount the amp. It comes with a strip of Velcro to attach the sub which I feel is a downer. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 PERFECT LIL SUB!!!! Yes | No 5 out of 5 Nice little subwoofer, but not perfect. Written By BLD, Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday, April 09, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I have a 1991 Porsche 944 cabriolet. Even though it has the "upgraded" audio speaker system, it really lacked bass. I had recently upgraded the headunit to a JVC KW-NT3HDT. I upgraded the door speakers as best I could as they only take 5 1/4" drivers. The rears are 4x6 plate speakers. As you can imagine, not much bass. My car has the back seat installed, so no where to install a sub there. I never really heard of Sound Ordnance before but most people seemed okay with them. I bought this unit hoping it would fit under the seat. It did not, even with the seat raised to the highest position. I really did not want to put it in the trunk as it is not the most powerful sub in the world, plus my trunk is small. I ended up modifying some 4" L brackets from Home Depot and installed it under the glove box. It does drop about 2" into the passenger foot well. I left all the settings on the unit in a 'neutral' position as I could control everything from the headunit including the level and crossovers. Once installed I fired it up and man what a difference it makes. This is not going to rattle your windows, but that is not what I was looking for anyway. It nicely fills in that sound gap that was missing with my factory speakers and I could not be more pleased. It would have been ice if they included some way to install the unit other than just putting it on the floor of the vehicle. No brackets, no screw holes, nothing. A big oversight in my opinion. Pros: Small size, reasonable price, solid construction. Cons: Auto on feature only works with speaker level inputs not line level, so you have to use the remote turn on wire. The manual is virtually useless. It would be nice if it included some detailed sound tweaking advice regarding the unit's settings and capabilities. The unit does not come with any brackets or even screw holes to attach it which I found odd and disappointing. 3 out of 3 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Nice unit Written By Jim, Wilmington, DE on Monday, April 08, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Installed this in the cargo area of my 2005 CRV. It would have barely fit under the driver side seat, but I didn't want to sacrifice the rear foot room, or obstruct the heating duuct outlet located there. No matter, it sounds great where it is, even with the roll-up cargo cover extended. As many others have stated, it rounds out the low end nicely, especially in my system with all 6.5" door speakers. But it won't rattle your windows - just nice clean bass. It did take some time to "dial in" properly, given all the controls on the subwoofer as well as the sub controls on my Kenwood head unit. I recommend installing the remote volume knob, as it provides very convenient fine tuning on the fly. I put the knob unit in the samll flip-open cubby in the lower center of the dash. One minor complaint, the only way to anchor the unit is with the supplied velcro strips. The velcro strips stayed stuck to the floor carpet and separated from the adhesive the first time I tried to move it. I am not sure if it is a capacitor charging, or the volume just has to be moderatly loud to turn it on. I will update when I hook up the remote line. Who needs a powered subwoofer? 5 out of 5 Rock On Written By wirehead, Cedar Lake IN. on Monday, May 06, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Sound Ordnance B-8pt Has excellent sound and pressure ! Yes | No
5 out of 5 The Boomin' System Written By TrevorL, Quartz Hill, CA on Monday, April 29, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) This system was the perfect fit for my ol' beat up Pickup Truck! Yes | No
5 out of 5 Sound Ordnance Subwoofer Written By Mark R, Houston, TX on Saturday, April 27, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) The unit first of all came a day early which was awesome. 5 out of 5 Great for filling in the bass Written By Brendan, MA on Friday, April 26, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Easy to install under the back seat of my 06 F150 crew cab. Fills in the bass really well with my Pioneer App radio and RF door speakers. Won't rattle the windows but fills out the sound nicely. Love it! Pros: Small, compact, easy to install. Cons: None if you don't want to rattle the windows! 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No

4 out of 5 Very good little sub Written By BrettM, Fremont CA on Sunday, April 21, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) If you are looking for a sub that does not take up too much space then this sub is for you. It fills in the missing bass that my component speakers can't produce. It is just enough bass for me but for some it would not be enough...it is not a 10" or 12" seale box base but its not bad 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No
4 out of 5 Way more then what I expected. Written By Mega, Harrisonburg, Va. on Saturday, April 20, 2013 2012 F350 Standard Cab 4x4. Yes | No
5 out of 5 This little sub rocks! Yes | No
5 out of 5 Perfect Compact Sub for a Compact SUV Written By Scott, Sacramento, CA on Thursday, April 18, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Ideal for what it is, an ultra compact under the seat 8" subwoofer (if you want to call it that). 4 out of 5 Sound Ordnance Does It's Job Written By paryted, Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey on Monday, April 15, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I have this Sub hooked up to a new Alpine media player head unit. Yes | No

5 out of 5 Nice little subwoofer, but not perfect. Yes | No
5 out of 5 Nice unit Written By Jim, Wilmington, DE on Monday, April 08, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Installed this in the cargo area of my 2005 CRV. Pros: compact size, performance, good controls Cons: mounting scheme Was this review helpful? Yes | No
5 out of 5 04 Jeep Wrangler Upgrade Written By wedu22, Groton, CT on Monday, April 08, 2013 This is actually my second one of these powered subs I purchased through Crutchfield (first one went in my Mazda B2300 pickup. It is perfect where space is limited such as it is in Jeep Wranglers. Easy to install, plenty of power & easily heard when the softtop is down. Love this sub! Pros: Strong sound & can take a pretty good beating. Cons: Nothing Was this review helpful? Yes | No
5 out of 5 Perfect fit Written By David, Newport News, VA on Friday, April 05, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Easy to install behind the seat of a 2011 Silverado Crew cab. Sounds great. A little delay on the turn on using high level inputs from the rear speaker leads. I am not sure if it is a capacitor charging, or the volume just has to be moderatly loud to turn it on. I will update when I hook up the remote line. However it is a great addition to the stock radio. Pros: Size, sound, volume Cons: Turn on delay. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No

Pros: small footprint Cons: could use a little more gain Was this review helpful? Yes | No
