Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the JVC KD-HDR61

by Zak Billmeier

If you love AM/FM radio, this one's for you
Local radio never sounded so good. JVC's KD-HDR61 CD receiver uses its built-in HD Radio™ tuner to tune in digital HD Radio broadcasts, pumping up the sound quality significantly. And many stations take advantage of the multicasting feature, which lets them broadcast additional channels on the same radio frequency, so you have even more listening choices.

Pandora® Internet Radio stations and more
JVC makes it easy to play your favorite Pandora stations. With your iPhone connected, you can skip songs, change stations, and rate songs using the receiver's controls. Plus, the 1-amp USB port charges devices quicker and keeps them charged while they're doing several things at once. Android users, with the help of JVC's optional Bluetooth® adapter, you can download JVC's Android app to tie this receiver to your phone, giving you some cool features like gesture control over music playback.

JVC KD-HDR61

Separated Variable Color display
The KD-HDR61 features a super cool display that lets you change the colors on the controls independent from those on the screen — with over 30,000 possible shades per side. That means you can create the ultimate color scheme, match your dash perfectly, or just let the colors cycle continually for a fun effect.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

      HD Radio

Built-in HD Radio: With the built-in HD Radio tuner, you can receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. HD Radio technology significantly improves audio quality and reception, as well as includes information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD Radio Technology will deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality sound with static free and clear reception.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to HDRadio.com to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting, it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

Text Display: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The built-in HD Radio tuner displays song title, artist and station information on the display of the JVC KD-HDR61.

iTunes Tagging: It is possible to save the song's information (tag) from a HD Radio broadcasting station to your USB-direct connected iPod/iPhone. The songs will show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the next time you sync your iPod/iPhone. Then you can directly buy the songs you want from the iTunes Music Store. You can "tag" up to 50 songs.

Note: Your iPod/iPhone must have at least 50MB of free space to "tag" and transfer songs. iTunes 7.4 or later is required to purchase "tagged" songs.

Analog Broadcasts: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the KD-HDR61 can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Digital/Analog Tuning: You can setup the KD-HDR61 to search both analog and digital radio stations, only HD Radio stations, or analog radio stations only.

Digital/Analog Presets: You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM digital/analog presets stations as presets (HD Radio multicast channels can also be preset). Presets can be set manually or automatically, using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM).

Radio Timer: You can tune into a preset station at a specific time regardless of the head unit's current source. You can activate the Radio Timer once, daily, or turn it completely off.

Mono Mode: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.

IF Filter: You can also switch the analog tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

      Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.

MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-HDR61 can play MP3 (8-320 kbps)/WMA files (32-192 kbps) that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. Each disc can have a maximum of 8 folder hierarchies, 255 folders, and no more than a total of 512 files and/or folders on each disc. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3 or WMA files.

Track/Folder List: The Track/Folder List displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD, so you can easily access your music. The Track/Folder List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc.

Random/Repeat Modes: The JVC KD-HDR61 offers the following Repeat and Random playback modes for your audio CDs.

      • Repeat: Track Repeat (plays the current track repeatedly), Folder Repeat (plays all tracks of the current folder repeatedly), Off (cancels repeat function)
      • Random: Folder Random (plays all tracks of the current folder, then the tracks of the next folder in random), All Random (plays all tracks of the current disc at random), Off (cancels random function)

Disc Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.

Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.

Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. The source will change to CD, and the disc will begin playback, even if you have another source selected at the time.

Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

      USB/iPod/Aux Connectivity

USB Port: The JVC KD-HDR61 features a front panel USB 2.0 (type-A) port behind a sliding cover for connection of a USB mass-storage class device (such as a USB thumbdrive or digital audio player). The USB port enables audio playback and control of MP3(8-320 kbps)/WMA (32-192 kbps) audio files stored on a portable USB mass-storage class device formatted in FAT 12/16/32. The KD-HDR61 can recognize up to 255 folders (255 files per folder) and 65,025 total files. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3/WMA files (up to 60 characters). USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (5V/1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

iPod/iPhone Direct: The JVC KD-HDR61's front-panel USB port also acts as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the USB/iPod cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. An additional iPod cable is available (469USBPOD, sold separately) so you can leave one at home and one in the car. Using either cable allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the JVC in-dash head unit.

iPod DAC Bypass: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 98dB. The JVC head unit supports audio playback of music, podcasts, audiobooks, and music apps stored on your iPod or iPhone.

iPod/iPhone Control: You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the JVC head unit's front-panel controls, from its clickwheel/touchscreen, or via a streamed app from your iPhone.

      • Head Unit: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search for music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, Composer, and Audiobook. Once a Playlist or Category is selected, the content is listed in alphabetical order. The KD-HDR61 also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone.
      • iPod: You can choose to navigate your iPod or iPhone's stored music from its clickwheel or touchscreen, like you are accustomed to during normal usage.
      • External (App Mode): External Mode lets you enjoy audio content from your downloaded music Apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Last.fm, Rhapsody, & Slacker) and driver assistant Apps (such as Trapster) streamed to your Apple iPhone, through the JVC KD-HDR61. You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to navigate and view your apps; the head unit will only display the clock and "EXT Mode".

Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded application will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

Pandora App: The Pandora App (free) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the JVC KD-HDR61 using your connected Apple iPhone, via the USB/iPod connector cable (included with your iPhone). The JVC KD-HDR61 provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information. You can select Pandora stations from your station list; you can sort the station list by date or A-Z. You can also skip song tracks within a station. In addition, you can also give songs a thumbs up/down and bookmark songs/artists. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS3 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

iPod Display: The KD-HDR61 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information, when in Head Unit and iPod mode (not in External mode), or listening to Pandora Internet Radio. The head unit can display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label.

iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

Note: If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Dual Auxiliary Inputs: A front-panel & rear-panel stereo minijack are provided to allow the connection of portable audio sources. Simply connect your portable digital music player to either the unit's front or rear auxiliary input, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

      Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-HDR61 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-HDR61 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-HDR61 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-HDR61 are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
      • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-HDR61 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Pro EQ: The KD-HDR61 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

      Pro EQ
      Frequency Level Q
      Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
      Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
      Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 khz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

2.5V/6CH Preamp Output: The KD-HDR61 is equipped with three pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front & rear preamp outputs offer balance/fade control and are designed to hookup to a full-range 4-channel amplifier. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading and designed to hookup to a mono-block subwoofer amplifier.

High-Pass Crossover: The KD-HDR61 features a High-Pass Crossover for the front & rear speaker-outputs or preamp-outputs. You can adjust the high-pass crossover from 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 150 Hz, or Off. The 'Off' selection is a full-range setting.

Subwoofer Controls: The JVC Arsenal KD-HDR61 offers the following subwoofer controls, when you have the unit's subwoofer preamp output activated.

      • Low Pass Crossover: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Crossover for subwoofer preamp output. You can select from 55 Hz, 85 Hz, 120 Hz, or off.
      • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (0-8) from the CD receiver.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

      Display Features

Detachable Face: The JVC KD-HDR61 CD receiver features a detachable face to deter theft. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Variable Color LCD & Key Illumination: The JVC KD-HDR61 features 29 color presets for the LCD and button illumination. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color preset or custom color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons except the eject button (it remains red). You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination, or use a separate color for each one. You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD and button illumination.

Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

      Bluetooth/Remote Control

Optional Bluetooth: The unit's rear-panel auxiliary input can also be used to connect JVC's KS-BTA100 Bluetooth Adapter (105KSBTA10, sold separately). The KS-BTA100 must be plugged into the rear-panel auxiliary input, and not the front-panel auxiliary input. The front-panel auxiliary input does not support Bluetooth. The KS-BTA100 gives you hands-free communication from your compatible Bluetooth mobile phone and wireless streaming audio from a Bluetooth enabled digital audio player. The optional JVC Bluetooth Adapter includes a super-sensitive microphone, an Answer/End button, and playback controls. The KD-HDR61 can be set to automatically mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can listen to your telephone call using your car speakers.

Note: Not all Bluetooth devices will be compatible. Visit the JVC Mobile Entertainment Bluetooth Support Page for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Wireless Remote Control: The KD-HDR61 comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK52). The remote contains Attenuator, Sound, Source, Tracking, and Volume functions. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V Lithium-cell battery (included).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit also features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with the optional PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Interface Adapter (541SWIRC, sold separately);  or the optional Metra ASWC Steering Wheel Control Interface Adapter (120ASWC, sold separately).

      JVC KD-HDR61

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The product is GREAT. I replaced the stock radio which was popping and hissing. I've always been of the opinion that a radio is a radio, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The sound is amazing, clean, clear, sharp, crisp, it's another world. Plus, all of the new technology. I replaced one set of speakers, but kept the others, and with this unit, it made them both sound like an entirely different vehicle. Crutchfield was great, all of the adapters, harnesses, and face plates, along with the instructions, made this a breeze. I couldn't be happier.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds great, lots of power, like the color change to be able to match to interior lighting BUT WHEN are these companies going to make a stereo the DIMS WITH THE CAR??? I had to minimize all the lighting to keep from being blinded. HD radio sounds great, reception is fantastic - picking up all sorts of stations none of my others do. I ordered from Crutchfield to get the install kit for my 90 Miata which did not fit anyway, so ordering just the stereo would have been better. I am an experienced installer though.
      Pros:
Sound quality, HD radio, radio reception, rear aux input, high power USB that can charge devices, color adjustable to match dash lighting
      Cons:
lighting does not dim with car lighting; no push button power like factory stereo; WHY does it start in DEMO mode when every disconnected from power - have to break out the manual to reprogram everything.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to replace the stock stereo that died (CD player) and wanted to expand to an IPOD/IPHONE capable system as well. Installation took me about three hours since I had never done this before. It was a bit intimidating at first, but once I got down my soldering technique and the help of my 12 year old son, it went into place. The wires are clearly marked on the supplied harness and assembly was easy. Installing it into the truck was easy as well. I had to call customer service since the DIN sleeve and reciever didn't fit into the mount. Two minutes later and removal of the faceplate from the mount (which the instructions don't tell you) and everything went in nice and snug. I had to remove the "beauty ring" on the dash to install the receiver but it snapped back into place easily.
      Pros:
Great sound on the stock speaker system. Easy install, all components worked as advertised. Couldn't beat the price with all the installation items needed included in the price.
      Cons:
Small buttons for my huge fingers. Mounting bracket face plate removal wasn't listed in the instructions.

      2000 GMC Jimmy

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am not an audiophile. I had to take the instrument panel apart to remove my factory system to diagnose problems with the speakers and wiring. Since the stereo itself was the source of some of the sound problems, and it didn't have any type of Aux input, I decided to replace it with something more modern. While I was at it, I decided to get a system with HD, which I've never heard before. I had a bad rear door speaker, so I also bought a new pair for the rear. Everything sounds great.

The instructions for the stereo consist mostly of diagrams, which confused me somewhat and slowed me down. But I had never done this before, either, so for all I know the instructions may be above average. Using the installation gear from Crutchfield, along with the information provided online when I ordered (about having to cut out part of the bracket behind the dash to get clearance for the unit), the installation went well. If I ever have to remove this unit (such as to add the optional bluetooth unit), I should be able to do it using the removal keys provided, with out taking the dash apart.

The unit packs a lot of functionality and buttons into a small area, which isn't good for my fat fingers, but I think most units are like that.

Outstanding value. I have had this head unit installed for a couple weeks. Can't believe I didn't do this a long time ago! The unit is great. Sound is good and I look forward to adding a sub in the near future. Even using the factory speakers in the front and some new rear speakers, it has a tremendous improvement on sound quality. This unit has all the adjustments you could want. HD radio is nice and the iPhone control is great. The adjustable display color is cool; my kids always want to change it.

      Don't hesitate, get it now.
      Pros:
Great sound. Very flexible design allowing for many audio options. Great bang for the buck. Easy to install with Crutchfield and manufacturer instructions.
      Cons:
Nothing significant once I got used to the control scheme (dial with click).

I have always been a fan of JVC car stereo products, and this unit has lived up to my expectations. The sound quality is great and I love the fact that it has 3 amplifier pre-outs as I run multiple amplifiers. The ability to change the colors of the keypads and the display is a great idea, and makes viewing the display and buttons very easy on the eyes. I have a JVC unit in 3 out of my 4 vehicles, with the exception being a GM Monsoon system that sounds fine as is. I'd recommend this unit to anyone, and the price made the decision to buy it painless. Crutchfield has been a pleasure to deal with, and I only wish I had dealt with them from the start!
      Pros:
Excellent instruction manual, outstanding performance and value.
      Cons:
      None I've encountered.

This receiver/CD deck lived up to my expectations, Installation was easy and the Master Sheets supplied by Crutchfield were an absolute must for ensuring the job was done right the first time.
      Pros:

Decent but basic car stereo that also works with my iphone. The controls and display are adequate. But given the price, it's a great deal.
      Pros:
      works with my iphone
      Cons:
The display can't be configured exactly as I want it (e.g. song title and time of day at the same time). Control buttons are a little small so I have to hit them just right

Best product I've put in my car for the dollar

For the price I paid, this was an unbeatable product. I have paid over $250 for similar items in the past. This new head unit gave me all of the features I was looking for on top of things I didn't even know about (Like the color changing faceplate).
      Pros:
USB port (you can mount any storage device as long as you format in to FAT32, regardless if the instruction manual says you can't -- I found out you CAN do it.) Color changing faceplate (I think around 30 custom colors, multitone, solid). Bright display screen, but not distracting. It has a nice feel for the buttons and it doesn't feel or look cheap.
      Cons:
A bit tough to understand the operational directions at first... but like anything, after using it for a while you get the hang of it. My faceplate came with a tiny scratch in it (on the glass), but I can look past it. Its tough to understand where my EQ settings are at and how I am balancing my levels.... there are little-to-no customization option, I had to do some playing around with the custom settings in order to really get the most out of my subs (I listen to trance and progressive mainly)

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this radio! I bought it a month and a half ago for my '03 Pontiac Grand Prix and have loved the HU. It's easy to navigate, there is not problems with the day light and screen visibility (I live in Southern AZ, clouds rarely exist) The menu is easy to navigate and the color options on the screen match perfectly to my red light interior. I paired my HU with steering wheel controls (ASWC) and love being able to navigate through my iPhone 4s while driving. Switching through playlists, albums, artists, am, fm, cd, etc. has never been easier or SAFER! That was my biggest factor in switching to a new HU, its safer then using an AUX input because my eyes don't leave the road with my steering wheel control. JVC has surpassed my expectations and Crutchfield has floored me with how nice and knowledgeable they have been, they've worked with me every step, I've already recommended them to many friends, and plan to only buy through them from now on:)
      Pros:
great light, easy controls, easy to navigate, love it
      Cons:
next/previous buttons are a little small, but not a big issue for me

      Great Head Unit

Written By Annie, Miami, FL on Thursday, August 16, 2012
Installed in a 2005 Dodge Neon
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio as a replacement for my 05 Dodge Neon factory unit. This head unit is a great value for the price, at first I was a little skeptical because I read some people complaining about a couple of things such as the display being almost impossible to see in daylight, well let me tell you, I live in Florida (bright sun all day long) and I have no issues with visibility, it looks just as good as at night time. The ability to change the display colors it a plus, you can easily match it with the interior of your car or your mood. It was easy to install, instructions are very easy to follow, I installed it myself in about 45 min (removing the old one and placing this one), this is the first head unit I have replaced myself, I usually pay someone to do it. As far as the USB, I read some people reviews saying it does not play music from Android phones, guess what? It does, as long as you put your phone on Mass Connection mode, it reads it and you can use the remote control to change the songs (I have a pretty new andoid phone so it is not true it only reads old models). It is actually very easy to navigate through the menu, every option displays on the screen so it is nearly impossible not to undestand what you are doing. Sound is great even with factory speakers, sound is loud, clear and stunning. In the past I have always bought Pioneer but I love this head unit, definetely will buy again from Crutfield and JVC.
      Pros:
Great unit, low price, easy to install and use, adjustable display color, reads USB devices (USB drive and phone), sound is clear and loud.
      Cons:
      None I can think of.

I'm extremely satisfied with this HU but just found out few weeks after buying it for 20 extra bucks you can get one with hands free calling. One downside is it said Android compatible so I figured it would run my droid through USB, nope it will charge it but a very weak charge basically I think its more of plug it in and doesn't run your phone battery down. With older model droids you can use the jvc app and use your phone as a remote control for cd's... The settings are pretty basic so if you're super into getting into the settings not gonna happen with this but you have sub control and bass control.
      Pros:
Great sound, awesome look, HD radio sounds good not really that big of a deal though
      Cons:
Cant use droid through usb but still charges it and a cd got stuck in it the first day and still haven't got it out

I am very happy with Crutchfield and their products and prices. I did not have any difficulting installing the radio but I knew I had full support if I needed it. That was a big factor in why I chose Crutchfield.
      Pros:
Prompt shipping, quality product, great resources for learning about the unit and how to install it. They also have excellent customer service.
      Cons:
None that I can think of...other than it has more features than I care to use or learn about (if that can be a con..)

Replaced factory unit in a 2004 Pontiac Montana. The sound quality is better, and using an Ipod is a breeze. We bought the harness and steering wheel control unit recommended by Crutchfield. The Crutchfield customer service rep led us through some tricky wiring issues caused by poor design of the steering wheel wiring by Pontiac.
      Pros:
Sound quality, steering wheel control, HD radio, and Ipod integration

Got this unit to replace a broken factory unit in my wife's truck. She loves it. We had heard good things about front USB--it works great, easy menus to play what you want. I don't really care but she loves being able to change the color of the display. The sound quality is noticeably better than the factory unit. The HD radio is also a neat feature.
      Pros:
USB front, adjustable display color, sound quality, great value

The radio sounds great. Some reviewers have said the reception sensitivity was low, but I haven't experienced that at all. I do live in the DFW metroplex area so that is probably not a big issue here. There is some issue with being able to see the display during the day, but I like that the display auto dims at night so it isn't so bright. I have the rear Aux port wired to my glove box, where I keep my Ipod which I really like and the USB works great. There are just so many options on this radio. The buttons are a little small for big hands and there are a lot of menus, but overall a great radio. I have plenty of HD stations in the area and they all sound fantastic. Good buy for the price.
      Pros:
Rear Aux port . Auto dimming display. Great Sound. Front USB and Aux. Price.
      Cons:
Small buttons and a lot of menus to sort thru. Display is sometimes hard to see during the day
