General Features
3.5" TFT LCD Monitor: This unit features a 3.5"
TFT LCD monitor built into the
motorized, fold-down faceplate. The LCD serves as a
video and navigation monitor and system information display.
Display Tilt Adjustment: The
motorized display can be adjusted to one of four angles.
Wallpaper: You can choose from
the following wallpapers: Default (blue water), Digital, Midnight, Sunset,
Gauges, Sunrise, Nucleus, Carbon, Tunnels, Orbit, Shadow, and Forest.
Hard Disk Drive: The KD-NX5000
is equipped with a 40 GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD). The HDD has 16 GB dedicated for
map data and 24 GB for storage. You can record CD tracks and music files (MP3,
WMA, and WAV). The recorded tracks are categorized into genres and albums. You
can make 99 genres in the music server, and 99 albums in each genre. Each album
can contain up to 999 tracks. Playback modes include intro scan, repeat, and
random play for tracks, albums, and genres.
Menu Languages: You can choose
from three menu languages: English, French, and Spanish.
Selectable Aspect Modes: You
can choose from the following aspect modes:
- Regular: 4:3 and 16:9
pictures display with black bars on either side (16:9 images are compressed)
- Full: expands 4:3 pictures
horizontally to fill the entire width of the screen, distorting the picture
slightly but retaining full image height
- Auto: the correct aspect
mode is automatically chosen based on the incoming signal
Intelligent
EQ (7-Band iEQ): This unit has Hard Rock, R&B, Pop, Jazz, Dance Music,
Country, Reggae, Classic, User 1, User 2, User 3, and Flat preset EQ curves.
User 1, User 2, and User 3 presets can be adjusted to your preference and stored
in memory. For each User preset, you can independently adjust the following
frequencies: 60 Hz, 150 Hz, 400 Hz, 1 kHz, 2.4 kHz, 6 kHz, and 12 kHz. The
level of each frequency can be adjusted from -5dB to +5dB in 1dB increments.
MP3/WMA Playback:
The KD-NX5000 can play MP3/WMA files that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW
discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level
1/Level 2, Joliet or Romeo. MP3
files with a bit rate from 32-320 kbps and WMA files with a bit rate from 32-320
kbps are supported.
Amplifier Gain Control:
When you are using the KD-NX5000 with factory speakers (or those rated to less
than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power
being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the
volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers
rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and
the volume control will range from 0 to 50.
Source Naming: The KD-NX5000
allows you to assign names of up to 16 characters for AM and FM stations (30
station maximum), and a name up to 16 characters for a connected external
component.
Subwoofer Output: This unit has 2.5V front, rear, and subwoofer
preamp outputs on a separate plug-in harness. The subwoofer output has independent level
control, adjustable from 0 to +08, and a selectable phase setting that can be
adjusted to Normal or Reverse.
Crossover: The
KD-NX5000 has an internal crossover that allows you to choose one of the following cutoff
frequencies: of 55 Hz, 85 Hz, or 125 Hz. This crossover acts as a low-pass filter for
the subwoofer preamp output and a high-pass filter for the front and rear preamp
outputs. The high-pass filter can be set to Through or On.
Compatibility with Optional Input Adapter:
An optional JVC Line Input Adapter (item # 105KSU57) or Aux Input Adapter (item
# 105KSU58) may be used to provide an additional auxiliary input on this unit.
This feature allows you to connect a portable audio player, such as a portable
MP3 player, to this unit as an additional audio source. The adapter connects to
the CD changer input on this unit. When the adapter is connected to this unit, a
CD changer cannot be connected.
Input Setup: You will need to indicate in the setup menu what type of
inputs your are connecting. You can choose between a changer and an external
input when the J-Link changer port is used. You can also choose between a video
input or camera when the video input jack is used.
Dimmer: The dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at
all times), Auto (display window automatically dims when your car head
lights are turned on), On (display is always dimmed) or Time Set (lets you
choose the hours when the display is dimmed). The amount of
dimming is fixed, it cannot be adjusted. The orange/white illumination wire
must be connected to your vehicle's headlight circuit for Auto operation.
Steering Wheel Remote
Compatibility: The KD-NX5000 has a "OE Remote" lead on the back
panel. When used with the optional PAC SWI-ALP interface (item # 127SWIALP), you can
retain the use of your steering wheel and/or rear seat radio controls when
replacing the factory head unit in select vehicles. The SWI-ALP is compatible
with over 95% of the vehicles made from 1986 to the present. Compatible vehicles
include many Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge,
Ford, GMC, Honda, Hummer, Infiniti, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus,
Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Plymouth,
Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volkswagen vehicles and Harley
Davidson motorcycles. Please consult "Outfit My Car" to see if your vehicle
is compatible.
DVD/Video CD Features
Dolby Digital/DTS: The
KD-NX5000 can output Dolby Digital and DTS bitstreams through the optical
digital output to a multi-channel surround decoder.
MP3/WMA Playback (Giga MP3):
The KD-NX5000 can play MP3/WMA files that have been recorded on DVD-ROM, DVD-R,
DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW discs. The disc must be compliant with UDF-Bridge
format. Discs must be created on a computer with a DVD burner. The DVD burner
software application must be compliant with UDF-Bridge format.
Note: DVDs recorded on
stand alone consumer DVD burners are not compatible with this unit.
Direct Access: Using the
supplied remote, you can directly access any title or chapter on a DVD, and any
track on a Video CD.
Multi-Angle Display: This
function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a
number of different angles.
Note: This function is
limited to DVDs recorded with multiple camera angles.
Monitor Type: You can choose
one of the following monitor types:
- 16:9: select this when the
aspect ratio of your monitor is 16:9
- 4:3 Letter Box: select
this when the aspect ratio of your monitor is 4:3. While viewing a
widescreen picture, the black bars appear on the top and bottom of the
screen.
- 4:3 Pan Scan: select this
when the aspect ratio of your monitor is 4:3. While viewing a widescreen
picture, the black bars do not appear; however, the left and right edges of
the picture will not be shown on the screen.
Scan Search: When
playing a DVD-Video, DVD-Audio or Video CD, there are five fast-play speeds in both directions
(2x, 5x, 10x, 20x, and 60x). Scan search speeds for CDs are 2x and 10x.
Slow Motion: When playing a DVD
or Video CD, there are five slow motion speeds in both directions (1/32, 1/16,
1/8, 1/4, and 1/2).
Repeat Play: When playing a
DVD, you can repeat the current chapter or title. When playing a Video CD, you
can repeat the current track.
Random Play: When playing a Video CD, you can play the tracks in random order.
Intro Play: In this mode, you
can play the first 10 seconds of each track on a Video CD.
Dynamic Range Compression: This
function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear
quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a
setting of Auto or On.
Navigation Features
HDD Navigation: The KD-NX5000
features a built-in GPS Navigation system. Map data is stored on the HDD, and
the connected GPS antenna and speed sensor wire help to pinpoint your vehicle's
current location. Once a destination is set, the unit provides turn-by-turn
voice guidance through the vehicle's speakers.
Note: If your vehicle isn't
equipped with a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) wire, item 105KVPG1 will be
required for the navigation functions to work properly.
Map Views: You can select from
different map views:
- Heading Up: The map
rotates so that you are always displayed heading "upwards." The direction is
displayed with a compass icon.
- 3D Map: The map is
displayed in a "heading up" mode, and in a three-dimensional view. The
direction is displayed with a compass icon.
- North Up: The map view is
oriented with north "upwards," like normal paper maps. The direction you are
heading to is displayed at the upper right corner of the screen with an icon
such as "NE."
Destination Search: You can
search for a destination by entering the name, address, or telephone number. An
alphanumeric keyboard appears on the screen, allowing you to scroll though the
letters to enter the name or number. The available characters are automatically
narrowed down as the system searches its database for matches.
Points of Interest: The
built-in map database has 13 million points of interest. They can be searched by
the following categories: Gas Station, Hotel, Parking, Restaurant, Shopping,
Travel, Recreation, Entertainment, Medical, Financial, Automotive, and
Community. Some of the categories are divided into sub-categories.
Favorite Points: You can save
up to 300 places as favorite points. Favorite points can be put into the
following categories: Home, Friend, Relative, Business, Visit, Shopping, Food,
Caution, Sightseeing, or Other.
Traffic Message Channel (TMC):
Traffic Message Channel is a technology for delivering real-time traffic
information to drivers. The traffic information sent by an FM radio station are
received and analyzed by the navigation system. The system can inform you of
where congestion exists, and how you can detour it. No special radio station has
to be tuned in for receiving the traffic information. The traffic service is by
subscription only; a three-month free trial subscription is included. Note:
The Bypass Traffic feature of the navigation system can be set to manual,
auto, or off.
External Device Controls
Bluetooth Compatible: With the
optional JVC KS-BTA200 Bluetooth Adapter (item # 105BTA200), this unit allows
you to make and receive cellular phone calls (through your Bluetooth enabled
phone), or listen to a Bluetooth audio device. You can register up to 5
Bluetooth devices to this unit, however, only one unit of each type can be used
at a time. You can store up to 6 phone numbers as presets for one-touch dialing.
Optional Interface Adapter for
iPod: The optional KS-PD100 adapter (item # 257KSPD100) allows an iPod digital music player with
a dock connector to be hooked up to and controlled by the KD-NX5000. You'll be
able to scroll through all your playlists, albums, artists, genres, and
composers directly from the head unit. Song titles and other file information
show up right on the head unit display. The iPod is also charged while it is
connected to the KD-NX5000. The optional KS-PD100 iPod interface is compatible
with most iPods that have a dock connector, including the following models: iPod
with dock connector (software version 2.3), iPod with Click Wheel (software
version 3.1), iPod mini (software version 1.4), iPod photo (5th generation -
software version 1.2), iPod nano (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation) and iPod
classic (80, 120, 160GB).
Note: The KS-PD100 is not compatible with the iPod touch
(1st, 2nd generation) or iPhone/iPhone 3G. This iPod interface will also not
charge the iPod nano (4th generation).
Satellite Radio: This unit supports both XM and Sirius
Satellite Radio when used with an optional satellite radio tuner and adapter, sold separately. This JVC headunit supports the SiriusConnect Universal Vehicle
tuner and JVC KS-SRA100 Sirius Satellite Radio interface (item number 700SIRJVC1, sold
separately). The headunit also supports the XMDirect2 Universal Vehicle tuner
and CNPJVC1 XM Satellite Radio interface (item number 700XMJVC1, sold separately).
CD Changer Controls: This unit is equipped with
JVC's "J-Link" CD changer control system. It is fully compatible with JVC's
CD/MP3 changer (257CHX1500). Other JVC CH-X series CD changers (except CH-X99
and CH-X100) can be controlled directly by this head unit, however, they are not
compatible with MP3 discs. You cannot use the KD-MK series CD changers with this
unit, even with an adapter.
Inputs and Outputs Notes
Digital Output: The KD-NX5000 has an optical digital output for
connecting the unit to a multi-channel surround Dolby Digital or DTS processor.
Video Input: A single RCA
composite video input allows you to connect a camcorder, VCR, or rear view
camera. If the input requires an audio connection, you will need the optional
KS-U57 Line Input Adapter. If the KS-U57 is used, you will not be able to
connect a CD changer. Note: The KS-U58 Aux Input Adapter (which has a
3.5mm miniplug instead of RCA plugs) can also be used for the audio input.
Video Output: A single RCA
composite video output allows you to connect an external video monitor.
