Bazooka

Who needs a powered subwoofer?

To produce bass, you need a sub, an enclosure, and an amplifier, and it can be little tricky to match them all up. A powered sub eliminates all the hassle, as the manufacturer designs the enclosure to house the sub and amp together. This all-in-one solution is especially useful in smaller vehicles, where there's no room to mount a separate amp, or in any vehicle where you need every bit of cargo space. Powered subs range from small, flat boxes that fit under your seat to larger boxes that go in your trunk.

Our take on the Bazooka BTA850FH

by Dominic Devito

A bass cannon

Bass makes up about 30% of your music, and it gives music its power and impact. A good subwoofer can make an average car audio system sound good, and a good car audio system sound great. Good bass is all about moving air, and a cylindrical tube translates the motion of its woofer into maximum air pressure so you hear and feel more bass. Bazooka designed the Bass Tubes enclosure to act like a bass cannon, firing low frequencies throughout your vehicle.

Bass Tube efficiency

BTA850FH 8" amplified Bass Tubes package

The BTA850FH Bass Tubes package from Bazooka includes a great-sounding TA850C amplified subwoofer tube and convenient factory radio connection kit. With this handy combo, you can enjoy thumping low end with a minimum amount of hassle.

Bazooka's TA850C 8" amplified Bass Tubes enclosure is an ideal solution for getting the thrill of powerful bass without making any permanent modifications, especially handy if you drive a leased vehicle. It features an efficient 8" woofer, a built-in 50-watt amplifier, and mounting hardware. Place the TA850C in a convenient spot in your vehicle, connect it to your car stereo, and enjoy some punchy bass while you drive.

Fits in almost any vehicle

The included F.A.S.T. combination from Bazooka features everything you need to hook up the TA850C to the factory radio in your vehicle: the F.A.S.T.-9999 universal harness and a 16-foot extension cable. The F.A.S.T.-9999 universal harness uses Posi-Tap connectors and simple, reliable plugs to get the signal from your factory radio to the Bass Tube — no splicing needed. Hook the other end of the universal harness up to the 16-foot long F.A.S.T.-BTAH extension cable, which you've connected to the TA850C in the rear of your vehicle.

Bass Tubes enclosures fit just about anywhere

A compact Bass Tubes enclosure will fit in almost any vehicle, and you can disconnect it in a snap if you need more cargo space. Since the tube's speaker and port are right next to each other, you can get amazing results by "corner loading" your tube — placing it in a corner of your trunk or cargo area so your vehicle's boundaries act as a natural amplifier, boosting bass production.

Only 50 Watts?!?!?

Written By BTB, Junction City, Kansas on Sunday, June 16, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the BTA850FH based on previous Bazooka experiences. I previously owned two 100W 8" Bazookas and lov ed every wave of sound produced by them. I installed the subwoofer in my 2013 Outlander Sport to fill out the bottom end of my factory stereo. I didn't want anything earth shattering, just enough to do the trick. The BTA850FH did just the trick! It added depth and dimension to my audio listeining experience that wasn't there with the 15W factory paper-coned speakers. If you need something that doesn't cost a lot of money and adds great depth and dimension to your listeining experience, look no further.
Pros:
price, ease of installation, simplicity of use, depth of sound
Cons:
long harness screws

Great little sub

Written By AnthonyT, San Pedro, CA on Tuesday, May 14, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had just purchased a JVC KW-NT810HD a month ago and thought I wanted to go a little farther with my project. I plan on replacing most of the audio components in my 2005 Matrix eventually. Adding a subwoofer was the simplest to do first, and I figured it would have the most noticeable effect. The manual suggested splicing the speaker wiring rather than using the RCA line outputs on my headunits. I opted to try the RCA outputs first and was disappointed with the output even with the gain maxxed out. So I easily changed it over to the splice method and it made a huge difference. I definitely see why the manual made that suggestion. Overall the installation was a snap which was great. The most time is spent routing the FAST cable from the back of the car all the way up to the dash. For my car it was long enough with a little over a foot to spare at the sub with a little slack left on the head unit end. This unit is not going to wake the neighbors, but it does make the sound much richer having it. It's just enough for my taste.
Pros:
Easy hook up Price Size

Just enough thump for an old guy

Written By Bubba, Fort Worth, Texas on Monday, May 13, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was added new to my F150 and the factory door speakers were replaced. Now it produces full range audio! The specific model was chosen for size because it had to fit behind the PU Truck seat (regular cab). I chose to use the line outs from the HD radio for sub woofer instead of splicing into the rear speakers and it has just enough thump to suit me. Old guys don't need to rattle the windows, just a little back massage :)
Pros:
compact package, great fit, does what I want!
Cons:
None

So Simple!

Written By Thomas B., Mentor, OH on Wednesday, April 10, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This bass tube is beyond simple to install! The 30 minute claim for installation is no exaggeration if you can thread the harness through the dash, instead of taking it apart. I installed this in my 2004 Silverado extended cab, and it filled in a large hole in my music. The bass won't rattle the vehicle, but it will boom. If you've never installed a sub in a car, don't fear. This one is a snap!
Pros:
Easy install, affordable, plug-n-play.
Cons:
None.

Just what I wanted!!!

Written By Nick M., San Antonio,TX on Tuesday, March 19, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put this sub in my 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic ext-cab work truck for those long trips. I had already installed a HU and some speakers in the front doors, but was missing that "thump" in my music. After installing the sub my music has been filled in. I have had another Bazooka in another truck that was excellent and it delivers again. I was impressed by the ease of installation, and if I change vehicles it is easy to take out and install in another vehicle. This sub will not "wake the dead", but will add the low end of your music. I used the RCA inputs that come with the F.A.S.T. connection to tweak the bass even more through my HU.
Pros:
reasonable price, excellent product, easy installation
Cons:
none

Nice bass sound

Written By Anonymous, Buffalo, NY on Sunday, March 17, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice clear bass sound. you have to play with the gain to get it just right. Aimed into the corner of the trunk and you can feel it throughout the car. Won't blow the windows out but it will annoy the guy next to you
Pros:
Easy to hook up
Cons:
Unit is quite big

Awesome for the price and size!

Written By Jason M, Anaheim, CA on Saturday, March 16, 2013

I was blown away by the output of this unit! Don't let the power or size distract you. It fills the cab of my Chevy 2500 up nicely with good accurate bass. Only draws 7.5 amps too so power is easy to find!
Pros:
Great price and small size!
Cons:
No adjustable crossover. Not a big deal though.

Good product but you made need a pro to install it

Written By Parrish, Monticello , Ky on Saturday, February 09, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am extremely satisfied with the product itself. It does exactly what I wanted it for all at a reasonable price. I'm a bit disappointed in the fact I wasn't able to install it myself and had to shell out an additional $132 to have it installed professionally. I've been ordering products from Crutchfield since 1994 and have always been completely satisfied with both the product and technical assistance until now. I should definitely say that it wasn't because tech support didn't try to help because they certainly did. I needed help with the wiring of this product for my 2010 GMC Acadia and they weren't able to send me wiring diagrams that helped. The ones they sent simply didn't match and they weren't able to talk me through the installation either. I finally realized I was in over my head, gave up and took it to a professional shop. The good news is that after installation, I'm more than satisfied. Ninteen years was an amazing track record with this company before finally being stumped though. Sometimes you get a tough one. I definitely will not hold this one-time glitch against the company and will not hesitate to order from them again.
Pros:
Excellent product for the price, completely satisfied with its performance.
Cons:
Had to have it professionally installed for an extra $132. Tech support tried but was unable to help, wiring diagrams didn't match and they couldn't talk me through the install.

Bazooka BTA850FH

Written By Gary, Dracut on Monday, December 31, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my girlfriends 2003 eclipse with the infinity factory system. Install was a breeze and this fills in the sound seamlessly. It doesn't overpower the factory system at all, but adds plenty of low deep bass to all music
Pros:
If used with a factory system,or an aftermarket deck with no external amps for the misd/highs in a hatchback or truck you'll love it
Cons:
In a sedan or a system with an aftermarket amp go the 100 or 200 watt

Great Sound

Written By Tom C, Orlando Florida on Friday, December 28, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was an add-on to a stock stereo. The 8"- 50 watt has more than enough power to fill out the sound. The factory radio connection kit was nice as it uses the same power for the radio so there is no need to run a separate power cable from the battery. The harness also has a set of RCA cables as well as hi level speaker inputs for flexibility.
Pros:
Factory radio connection kit, awesome sound for the price, took about 1 hour to install start to finish
Cons:
Determining the speakers wires on the factory radio

Awesome for Nooby Beginners

Written By Kevin, Canada on Friday, November 30, 2012

All you gotta do it google what wires to connect to behind your radio and your good to go. Took no time at all once i knew which wires to connect to what. I have a station wagon so the 8" is just right. If it was in a car i think in might need to be a bit bigger. Today i even managed to get an old guy to give me a dirty look; needless to say it made me very content in my purchase. On a side note, the car's bass tuner works on the tube so you can turn it down when you want and can leave the sub's knob on full. All in all i would definitely buy it again.
Pros:
Insane for the price simple to install awesome for noobs to subs
Cons:
Its a tube so it needs to be screwed down

Good Bass for the price..........

Written By Maulex, San Angelo, TX on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in Chevy Cruze, makes a great combination with Factory stereo, inside vehicle the sound is great and haven't had any rattles issues with license plate. Gave me the additional bass required to hear music clear. Also upgraded rear door speakers with Kenwoods. I really enjoy my sound system now, can put volume up to 40 and there is no distortion.
Pros:
Easy to install and takes minimal space from trunck.
Cons:
OEM radio did not have power antenna wire, so had to obtain ignition signal from power outlet. Installation sheet does mentioned options for connection, so no big deal. But would have reduced installation time if was prepared to have extra wire to complete splice.

Great

Written By Pat, VA on Tuesday, November 06, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put this is my 2004 accord and thought it wasn't going to do much but I was wrong. I've had 2 JL 12" before and of course those were loud but I'm past that stage where I want everyone to hear my music so I went with these... They fill the cabin of the car with just the perfect amount of bass and doesn't distort at high levels.... People who say it doesn't rattle rear view mirrors aren't just listening to music with much bass to it cause mine does rattle.
Pros:
Very easy installation.
Cons:
Ground wire is too short.

Nice Product

Written By marks, Cleveland, OH on Friday, June 01, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed some bass to fill out my factory system in my Chevy Cruze. The bazooka does a nice job of it. It does not play super low or is it super loud, I have to turn the gain to max to get decent loudness (only 50 watts), but it does the job. I have it installed in my trunk, but it does fill out the cabin with good if somewhat boomy bass. If I had to do it again I would probably go with the 10 inch 100 watt model for louder deeper bass...I think the 8 inch 50 watt version is more suitable for trucks and hatchbacks were the unit is located directly in the cabin. I might try moving the tube from the trunk to behind the driver's seat to see if I can get a slightly better sound...but I am mostly satisfied with the product.
Pros:
Ease of install.(no drilling through the firewall to connect to the battery) Decent sounding bass for the price.
Cons:
Underpowered for trunk install. Included instructions not the best.

Great Sub Once Hooked Up...

Written By Phil, Santa Rosa, CA on Tuesday, May 22, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave this 5 stars because the sub is great! However, I had trouble installing it. This may be completely my fault, but my sub did not come with the quick release jumper. Prior to realizing the solution, I was scratching my head trying to figure out why my brand new sub produced zero sound. I kept thinking I had the wrong speaker wires hooked up behind the head unit (a factory 6000CD in my 2011 Ford Transit Connect). But I had them correct. I also checked my ground and positive 12v with my meter and everything checked out just fine. After looking at the diagram and noticing that two of the terminals on the sub were for a quick release jumper, I had to wonder if that was the issue. The wire harness didn't have any leads to connect to those two terminals. I didn't want a quick release jumper anyhow, so I cut the plastic connector where the two terminals are, and made my own custom jumper and piened it to the two terminals for a solid connection. I connected the now modified wire harness and, voila, sound! Was I supposed to have this quick connector in the packaging of my sub? Was I supposed to know ahead of time to order it separately? (although I'm unsure how it would connect to the existing wire harness). In any event, I figured it out and the sub works....sounds awesome, and I can't complain :)
Pros:
Sounds great considering no amp is needed
Cons:
Almost flawless install

easiest install ever!

Written By MikeM, Clements, MD on Wednesday, May 02, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The install with the factory fast system made the install a breeze, 45 minutes and I was done. The tube itself puts out an impressive level of bass, but I think the acoustics in the 2012 chrysler 200 dampen the sounds coming from the trunk so unfortunately I really don't hear or feel much of it, but it is a substantial increase, the level is almost at full blast as well. Again this is a great product, just the acoustics in my trunk make it hard to enjoy.
Pros:
small leaves a lot of space available.
Cons:
none

Recieved this product today and after a couple hours I am ready to rock. Hardest part of the install was removing panels and finding a spot in my trunk to mount the brackets. Crutchfields tech support hasn't failed me yet and they always provide you with drawings to make the install easy. Bass is clean for what it is. Exactly what I was looking for ,no rearview mirror rattling but you feel the bass when it hits. I never go anywhere else when it comes to car audio/video. Thanks Crutchfield!
