Our take on the OSN OS-500

by Woody Sherman

Shoot in low light — or explore exciting time-lapse photography concepts — with the portable and convenient OSN OS-500 deluxe lightweight tripod. It features a three-way "fluid effect" panhead that is designed to smooth out live moves when shooting motion video. An included quick-release mount attaches to your camera or camcorder's base and makes it possible to change from a fixed to mobile shooting posture in seconds.

The center column is adjustable via a geared cranking mechanism, for easy height adjustment. Non-slip feet give you a secure platform on most surfaces. And an incorporated bubble level makes it possible to properly set your vertical orientation in moments.

Highlights:

  • supports digital cameras and camcorders weighing up to 4.5 lbs.
  • maximum height: 57"
  • 3-way fluid effect pan head for smooth camera movements
  • geared center column
  • 3-section legs with quick lever leg locks

    very light and adequately functional

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When you pick up this tripod - you are bound to notice the light weight. Tripod is very functional with two level displaying bubbles, pan head and directional adjustment, accessory hook etc. understanding how to operate is a breeze. I like that you can take out the base screw camera to it and easily attach it to the mount. I was ready to take this out of box and start shooting. it was shipped quite fast too. happy with the purchase.
    Pros:
Light weight, not expensive, easy to operate
    Cons:
Does not seem super sturdy, cover bag seems a little cheapish

    Tripod

ok, tripod. Not the most sturdy thing I have used but it works. I have not been a big fan of the specialized base that you have to attach so that whatever you want to mount, mounts to the tripod head. Why don't they just put a screw in the head to screw into whatever you want to mount?
    Pros:
    light weight.
    Cons:
specialized base the you have to mount to whatever, then clip into the tripod head.

    OSN OS-500

Written By Aurel, Detroit, MI on Thursday, May 31, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This tripod is OK, especially for the price. Fit&finish is good, and the tripod is stable...except a small loose into its head. I had to exchange mine because the first one I received had it head's thread totally worn out (the camera was floating). Thanks Crutchfield for the quick exchange. Overall it's ok for my novice use
    Pros:
cheap, quick installation/removal of the camera, tripod stable
    Cons:
tripod's head is a bit loose, loose some precision here. Might not last long if you use it hard
