About the Onkyo CS-V720
Onkyo's CS-V720 gives you high-quality music and movie playback in a space-saving system. Its built-in circuitry ensures clean, powerful sound with all your DVDs and audio discs. Plus, it boasts exceptionally flexible playback capabilities, including optional XM Satellite Radio reception and iPod® compatibility.
Good sound starts with a strong, clean signal, and the 'V720 delivers just that. Its high-tech circuitry reduces noise early on, before the signal is amplified and sent to the speakers. A high-current amplifier design helps this system re-create exciting, powerful audio effects. Plus, the speakers feature anti-resonant MDF cabinets for more accurate sound.
In addition to regular CDs, the 'V720 can handle high-capacity MP3 and WMA (Windows® Media Audio) discs. You can even listen to high-resolution music from Super Audio CDs (SACDs) and DVD-Audio discs. These discs are known for delivering impressively detailed, precise sound. And iPod fans will appreciate this system's iPod compatiblity. Just add Onkyo's DS-A2x dock, and you'll be able to control your 'Pod with this system's remote control and hear your tunes through it's capable speakers.
The 'V720 is also "XM Ready," which makes it especially easy to enjoy XM Satellite Radio in your home. an optional XM Mini-Tuner package and activated your XM subscription, you'll have access to more than 170 XM Satellite Radio channels. You can view channel, artist, and song information on the 'V720's front panel, and change channels using the its remote.

Overview
Overview: This system includes a DVD receiver and two 2-way speakers. The DVD receiver includes preamp outputs for the following channels: surround left, surround right, center, and subwoofer. A wireless remote is supplied for system control.
General Features
Timer Functions: The CS-V720 allows you to set up to 4 event timers. You can choose from the following types of timers:
- Timer Play: the specified component starts playback at the specified time
- Timer Rec: the specified
component starts recording at the specified time
- Note: The Timer Rec operation is available for recording on an Onkyo cassette tape deck that features an RI remote control jack.
Sleep Timer: From the remote, you can set the unit to automatically turn off after a preset amount of time. The sleep timer can be adjusted from 10 minutes to 90 minutes in 10-minute increments.
Display Dimmer: The display illumination can be set to Dim, Dimmer or Normal.
Receiver Features
WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology): This technology uses low-negative-feedback circuit topology for accurate signal reproduction, improved dynamic signal-to-noise ratio, and better delivery of power peaks.
XM Satellite Ready: The optional XM Direct 2 Home Tuner (220XHD2H1, sold separately) lets you enjoy XM Satellite Radio through the XM-ready receiver. Simply connect the XM direct 2 Home Tuner to the XM jack on back of the receiver, place and aim the included antenna for optimum reception, and you are ready to start enjoying commercial-free music, plus live sports, new, talk, and exclusive entertainment.
Note: In addition to the XM Direct 2 Home Tuner and the XM-ready receiver, you will need a subscription to XM Satellite Radio to receive XM programming.
iPod Compatible: The optional DS-A3 Remote Interactive Dock for iPod (580DSA3, sold separately) provide an interface between an iPod digital media player and the CS-V720. Once the iPod is docked you can control basic functions such as volume control, play, stop, and skip via the Onkyo system's RI-compatible wireless remote control. The dock also charges the battery in the iPod, and allows you to view digital photos and video on an Onkyo system.

Direct Mode: This mode delivers pure sound with minimum sound quality adjustment and filtration.
Late Night Feature: The Late Night feature limits the dynamic range of Dolby Digital recordings. Limiting the dynamic range makes it easier to find a volume that ensures the quiet sounds are not too quiet and the loud sounds are not too loud for night time listening. This allows you to comfortably listen to without the need to constantly adjust the volume to keep from waking family/neighbors. The choices are: Off, Low, and High.
Note: This feature only works with Dolby Digital Encoded software and the depth of the feature will vary based on the individual software package.
Audio Adjust Function: This functions allows you to adjust the following:
- Bass: allows you to adjust the bass from -10dB to +10dB in 2dB steps
- Treble: allows you to adjust the treble from -10dB to +10dB in 2dB steps
- Mono:
this setting specifies the channel to be used for playing any 2-channel
digital source such as Dolby Digital, or 2-channel analog/PCM source in the
Mono listening mode. You can choose one of the following:
- LR: both left and right channel are output
- L: only the left channel is output
- R: only the right channel is output
- Multiplex:
this setting determines which channel is output from a stereo multiplex
source. You can choose one of the following:
- M: main channel is output
- S: sub channel is output
- MS: both the main and sub channels are output
- Theater-Dimensional Mode:
this setting is used for a 5-channel configuration. You can choose one of
the following:
- All: choose this setting when you use surround speakers but they cannot be placed in the correct positions
- Front: choose this setting when you have to place the surround speakers in front
- Listening Angle: allows you to adjust the listening angle in the Theater-Dimensional mode
S.Bass: You can choose one of the following S.Bass settings: S.Bass 1 (low end is emphasized), S.Bass 2 (low end is even more emphasized), or S.Bass Off.
Speaker Levels: You can independently adjust the speaker levels from -12dB to +12dB. The subwoofer's level can be adjusted from -15dB to +12dB.
Naming Preset Channels: You can enter an 8-character name for each AM/FM preset.
DVD Features
DVD/CD Player: This unit has a single-disc player that is compatible with the following discs: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, Video CD, audio CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs, as well as MP3, WMA, and JPEG files on CD-R/W.
Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC): The CS-V720 uses Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry to remove stray pulse noise from the digital signal for a smoother, richer analog output signal.
Progressive Scan Output: Progressive-scan video has less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than the traditional interlaced-scanning method, resulting in a superior picture. To take advantage of this feature, you must have a television with component video inputs that supports the progressive scanning mode. The component outputs on this unit can be set to pass either progressive or interlaced video.
MP3/WMA Playback: This unit will play MP3/WMA files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2 format. This unit is not compatible with variable bit rate MP3/WMA files, or multi-session discs. Each disc can have a maximum of 299 folders, and up to 648 folders and files combined.
JPEG Disc Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2 format. This unit can recognize baseline JPEG and Exif 2.2 files with a maximum resolution of 3072 x 2048. All JPEG files on a disc can be played back individually or in a slide show. Each disc can have a maximum of 299 folders, and up to 648 folders and files combined.
Resume Function: The Resume function allows you to resume playback of a disc from the point where you last stopped. The stopping point is cleared when the Stop button is pressed more than once or the disc tray is opened.
Last Memory Function: If you want to begin playback at a certain point, but the power will be turned off or the DVD or Video CD will be removed from the player, use the Last Memory function to specify a starting point on the disc next time you play it. Points on up to 5 DVDs or VCDs can be stored in memory.
Picture Zooming: During playback, when you press the Zoom button on the remote control, you can enlarge the picture by 2x or 4x. You can then use the cursor buttons to move the enlarged viewing area up, down, to the left, or to the right.
Speaker System
Speaker Design: Each speaker features a 1" soft dome tweeter and a 5-1/8" Onkyo Micro Fiber cone woofer with a rubber surround. Each enclosure has a rear-firing slot port for improved bass response. Each speaker has spring clip terminals that will accept bare wire and pin connectors. The dark gray cloth grilles are removable.
Magnetically Shielded: The speakers are magnetically shielded so they can be placed next to your television without distorting the picture.
Dimensions: Each speaker has the following dimensions: W=5.905", H=9.478", D=10.439".
Inputs and Outputs Notes
Audio Inputs: The unit offers two analog stereo audio inputs and one optical digital input.
