Sound Ordnance

Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

Our take on the Sound Ordnance™ B-24

by Dominic Devito

Sound Ordnance designed the B-24 dual bandpass subwoofer to be the bass fortress in your vehicle's sound system. The sturdy enclosure houses a pair of 12" polypropylene woofers in individual airtight sealed chambers, plus a third chamber that features a generous slot port for massive air movement. The enclosure's bandpass design increases speaker efficiency dramatically for impressive bass firepower. Best of all, you can watch the woofers swing into action behind the clear acrylic front windows.

The heavy-duty speaker terminals provide excellent connections, and the rugged black carpet cover with the Sound Ordnance logo lets your competition know you mean business. And you'll have extra peace of mind with Sound Ordnance's 3-year warranty behind your investment. Add a suitable amplifier, mount the system safely in your trunk or cargo area, and get ready for a bass barrage.

    Features

Materials: The Sound Ordnance B-24 is a pre-loaded bandpass-style enclosure with dual 12" subwoofers. It is constructed of 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), covered in black carpet. It also features dual clear acrylic front windows for viewing the subwoofers. The subwoofers feature polypropylene cones with rubber surrounds, 2" voice coils, and a heavy-gauge stamped steel basket.

Box Design: The enclosure has two separate sealed chambers in front of each subwoofer, and a vented chamber behind both subwoofers. The front-firing slot port is 2-13/16" wide and 13-1/2" high, and is centered between the speakers. The box has a total of 2.9 cubic feet of airspace.

Terminals: The B-24 is equipped with a single set of spring-post speaker terminals, mounted in the rear panel. The spring terminals will accept bare wire, pin connectors, and single banana plugs, but are spaced too far apart for dual banana plugs. Inside the enclosure, the two drivers are wired together to present a 4-ohm load to the speaker terminals.

Brackets: Brackets for securing the enclosure to your vehicle are recommended.

    B-24 Enclosed Subs

Written By Brian, Warren, OH on Monday, April 29, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these with the Sound Ordnance M-2250, my preexisting InstallBay 1000w wire kit, a 1.0 microfarad capacitor, and an InstallBay line-output-converter. As soon as i ran them the first time i was impresses beyond expectation. Bass response was strong, clean, loud, and un adulterated. Out of the three bass rigs ive run in my vehicle (sony-ma audio combo, massive-bazooka combo, an this Sound Ordnance) this blew me away with its sheer affordability and quality. Id recommend these to anyone who wants immaculate bass on a budget. All genres sound good from bass kicks to synth 808's through the Sound Ordnance B-24 setup. 5 stars.
    Pros:
Affordable, well built, nice on the eyes, excellent audio quality.
    Cons:
Although the warranty is fantastic, once the equipment goes out of warranty, if the subs were to die theyd have to be replaced with shallow subs. Not alot of room in the box.

    Absolutely Fantastic!

These subs are well worth the money! I've had them for about 2 years now and haven't had a problem with them yet. Break them in properly like any sub and they'll last you a lifetime. They do lack the ability to play very low hZ bass but for 99% of music you'll never notice it. It produces bass that will pound your chest, but is tight enough to sound great with country and rock, it adds depth to any music that normal speakers alone lack. Paired them with the recommended 2250 amp and it's perfect.
    Pros:
    sturdy, powerful, tight bass
    Cons:
    slightly limited range

These are amazing! I had them installed for few hours now but they STILL hit hard !!! These produce some loud, chess pumping, car ratteling, head turning bass. Perfect for rap and hip hop. The best part is when my friends want to see what they are. They look great. Not only do they look sexy but you don't lose out on quality.! I got them hooked up with the matching S/O M-2250 amp and it hits hard! The box is big, but not heavy. Also its built sturdy.

    AWSOME

Written By jj, usa on Sunday, July 01, 2012

to respond to the other reviewers, so people dont get confused, first, you should get the matching S.O. amp (2250) it pumps these subs amazingly, if u use some cheap brutus or crap of course you will be sadly let down. these speakers DO hit lower notes, ive used a test disc and at 20hz they shake the mirror off and never stop. so if you get the right amp, and hook them up right, which is cake, they are great. for reference, i have them in the back of an suv, and they pound the whole truck. sound quality is great, both loose and tight depending on music you play. rage pounds tight, and the seldom "pop" i play hits long loose bass. best of both worlds.
    Pros:
awsome deal, great sound, price is great (i paid 159) and look sharp.
    Cons:
none for me, and ive had them for a year now, going strong, never miss a beat.

    Nice speakers

Written By Robbycg, Oviedo, FL on Monday, June 11, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was slightly disappointed when I saw that my new b-24 sub woofers had a crack in the left speaker Bandpass glass cover. I immediately called Crutchfield and was assured new sub woofers would be shipped immediately. I was even e-mailed a return shipping label, costing me nothing to return the broken subs. As sound quality goes, they bass is really loud and shakes my car pretty well when the right song is on. I believe the speakers lack in lower frequency reproduction such as in the song "On my Level" my Wiz Khalifa. Half of the bass notes are missing or very quiet because they are too low for the speakers. Other than the problems with deep bass, I have no complaints about these sub woofers and I am overall satisfied. Definitely worth the money. I have my subs hooked up to the m-2250 amplifier in the trunk of my 2005 Honda Civic Sedan.
    Pros:
    Very Loud
    Cons:
Cannot handle very low bass frequencies.

Seriously, These are amazing! I've had them for about a week and they haven't even broke them in yet but they STILL hit hard though!!! The best part about it is when my friends find out I have serious loud, chess pumping, car ratteling bass. I get to show them my trunk and its really cool looking subs that are blowing that sick bass! Not some ordinary looking subs like kenwood or pioneer. I love them. I got them hooked up with an M-2250 amp and it pushes hard!
    Pros:
Loud deep Bass. (hip-hop/rap) awesome apperance(attraction) fit well in trunk 3-year warrenty. Blows away my competition.

Well worth the money! The bass is off the scale with the Sound Ordnance M-2250, 2-channel car amplifier - 175 watts RMS x 2. If you want to turn heads and get dirty looks from old people then this is the sub package for you! I just love it and my kids are jealous, hehe.

Disappointed (You get what you pay for)

Written By Steve, Dallas, TX on Wednesday, March 07, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading all the positive reviews I though I would buy this and I was saddly disappointed. If you've never had subwoofers in your car in the past or your not expecting really bass you can feel and you dont have $ this is the product for you.

Basically you get what you pay for, this bass combo does a poor job of providing that hard hitting base that you can feel and that shakes your rear view mirror.

I am running a Hifonics 1700 Brutus amp and pushing 600 rms to this box. When my gain is set past halfway up my amp goes into protect to stop me from blowing the speaker. So the rating of 500 rms is off quite a bit. Remeber that our amplifiers are only running at 60 - 70% in a best case scenario.

After being disappointed I went out and bought some Orion XTRPro 12's which I wanted to put into this box and I was saddly disappointed again, the mounting dept in this box is very shallow and can not accommodate real subwoofers. Also when pulling out the subwoofers I found that cheap 16/18 gauge wire was used from the connecting terminal to the speakers. Also they are using two 8 ohm speakers so good luck trying to reuse the subs in another configuration.

    Pros:
Looks great, sounds ok if you don't have the $ for real subwoofers
    Cons:
Doesn't hit, and you don't feel the bass you only hear it. The speaker mounting dept in this box will not accommodate other subwoofers.

    They Hit Hard

Written By Sean D., Chicago, IL on Sunday, March 04, 2012

I bought this product in early January, been busy so just got it set up with the efx 8gauge wiring kit and 12 gauge speaker wire and these subs are so sick. The only problem i had was getting them to play. My car battery was pretty much dead and i think that led the subs to not get enough power to play. But now they are great. This was my first install and i think they are great started subs. someone i know has exo's but these b-24s hold enough power where i get the mirrors to shake. great product and excellent customer support!!! thanks crutchfield

Put these in the back of my explorer hooked up to a cheapo 400 rms amp. They deliver massive sound compared to my sealed tens I replaced. They look awesome and the box is stout. Response to some of the faster beats can be slow but that might just be the nature of these bigger subs. Overall a great product and glad I made the purchase.
    Pros:
    Big boomy sound

    Size might be an issue
