Woofer
K2 Cone: The woofer cone is a CMKV sandwich composite consisting
of Aramid fiber, foam, and structural glass fiber. This combination of materials
results in a rigid, light weight cone with excellent damping characteristics.
Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet
rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and
longevity.
Aluminum Basket: The woofer features a cast aluminum basket,
inherently rigid and non-magnetic.
Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1-1/4"
diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.
Tweeter
Inverted Dome Tweeter: The TN53K tweeter is an Aramid fiber
inverted dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet
to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining
the tweeter's compact dimensions. The dispersion is controlled by the twin radius
wave guides to improve staging and directivity.
Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted.
Focal recommends flush mounting and the flush mount cup is built onto the tweeter
housing. The included angled cup allows surface mounting at approximately 30°.
Crossover
Components: Focal uses audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors
and air core inductors to ensure high definition and a dynamic sound quality.
Tweeter Level: You can adjust the output level of the tweeter
on the crossover to -6 dB, -3 dB, or 0 dB. There is also a switch (on/off) to
boost the tweeter's extreme high frequencies.
Midrange Level: Set the midrange output to High or Flat to
match their position in the car. When the mids are installed low in the door,
some of the output is absorbed by the upholstery and they benefit from the High
output setting. This High setting bypasses the low-pass crossover, using the
woofers' natural mechanical roll off instead.
Crossover Slopes: The crossovers allow adjustment of the
high-pass filter slope. The woofer can be run full range and use its natural
mechanical roll off, or be crossed over with a 12 dB per octave slope. The
tweeter can be crossed over with a 12 dB or 18 dB per octave slope. The crossover
frequency is 3,800 Hz.
Wiring: The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will
accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide.
