Imagine holding a small capsule in your palm, then with a few deft hand motions, presto! It turns into a portable speaker system pumping out clear sound from your iPod®. That's the concept behind iHome's iHM79 portable speakers.

Open up to set up
The two speakers have magnetic bases to hold them together for travel. Gently pull them apart to set up. Give each speaker a twist to unlock and expand it. Then connect the combination USB cable/stereo minijack cable to your computer or portable device and you're ready for music.

Simple and fun
The speakers have built-in rechargeable batteries that you can charge through the USB port of any computer — and you can listen to them while they're charging. Minijack audio connections make these speakers compatible with any portable device or computer that has a headphone minijack output.     Overview: The iHome iHM79 Portable Multimedia Speakers let you listen to audio from your portable digital audio player or Laptop via a 3.5mm connection. These compact speakers attach magnetically in a capsule shape for ultimate portability, then separate and extend for stereo sound. The iHome iHM79 features two amplified speakers with built-in rechargeable batteries, vacuum bass expansion, USB charging, and comes with a storage pouch.

    Vacuum Bass Design: The iHM79 Portable Multimedia Speakers utilize a Vacuum Bass Design to provide surprising volume and bass response in a small space-saving stereo speaker system that fits in your hand.

    Collapsible Speakers: The iHM79 Portable Multimedia Speakers feature a collapsible speaker design for ultimate portability. Simply twist each speaker to expand and compress each speaker to collapse.

    Magnetic Base: A magnetic base on each speaker keeps the portable speakers together for travel.

    Note: This product has magnets in the base of each speaker. To avoid interference or possible damage, do not place these speakers directly on electronic devices such as computers or monitors.

    2-in-1 Cable: The iHM79 Portable Multimedia Speakers come with a 2-in-1 cable which has a USB (type-A) plug for charging the speaker's built-in battery and a 3.5mm audio plug for connecting to your audio source. The cable even lets you charge the speaker while listening. The 2-in-1 attaches to each powered speaker via a mini-USB (type-B) connector.

    Note: The USB (type-A) connector is used for charging only; not for audio.

    Compatibility: The iHM79 Portable Multimedia Speakers work with almost any device featuring a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Its perfect for laptops, cell phones, portable game devices, or MP3 players.

    Rechargeable Battery: The iHM79 is powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery in each speaker. When the blue power light dims, or if you start to notice sound distortion in higher volumes, it's time to recharge the batteries. To recharge the built-in battery, simply connect the USB (type-A) connector of the speaker's cabled to your computer. The light on the speaker will turn to red while charging and turn blue when fully charged.

    Note: You can continue to listen the speaker while they are charging.

    Carrying Pouch: The iHM79 Portable Multimedia Speakers comes with a convenient cloth carrying pouch with drawstring.

    The sound is very good for such a small pair of speakers. I do have an issue with the fact that it's charged by USB. You can use them while charging but if you want to just charge them you gotta turn on a computer. There are USB wall chargers available but that's another thing to buy. I have a mini USB charger that I can use so that I don't need the included cable but I can only charge one at a time. But for me it's not a big deal since I got these for travel and I take a computer anyway.
    Pros:
    Good sound for its size.
    Cons:
    USB charging only, unless you buy a wall charger. But if you already have one, then it doesn't matter:)

    These speakers are a good quality product with that said one thing I do find that isn't that Pleasing is the way the usb charging wires cannot be removed its to cumbersome for something So portable.

    I've had these speakers for a year and haven't had any issues with them. I could hear the low hum that people refer to only when connected to my computer via USB for charging. Tried using my ipod or iphone wall charger (5V, 500 mAh) and no more humming. Best of all I believe that using the ipod charger has extended the battery life of these bad boys. They sound great especially when you consider the size, nice and full, just do not expect to hear thunderous bass. Sound good with ipod or iphone, but they sound even better with ipad and Blackberry. No matter what device you have, you will not be disappointed. Listening to Bob Marley's Legend album on my ipod as I type this review, very cool.

    Portable, rechargeable, good audio quality.

    These little speakers are just great. Not much bass, but we didn't expect it from such tiny units. Voices are exceedingly clear and music is beautiful. We hook these to our computer when watching TV shows on HULU and just love the sound. Can't do better.

    Cons:
    No bass to speak of.

    I have been looking for something like these speakers for 5 month, ever since I the beginning of my deployment. The rechargable batteries are a must as it can be difficult to find batteries quickly. these speakers have a rich bold sound and are exactly what i have been looking for. i will use crutchfield for all my future electronic needs.

    I bought these to use with my iPod as I "play along" with the symphonies, etc. The plug in is
    via the headphone jack, which allows easy handling of the iPod for repeating phrases and
    stops and starts. The speakers in their carry bag are small enough to toss into a tote to take
    to the park. Give them a try!
