Alpine

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Our take on the Alpine MRP-M1000

by Buck Pomerantz
Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

V-Power amplifiers deliver the sound quality that made Alpine famous. Highly efficient power supplies housed in sleek black casings guarantee that these amps stand out in performance and appearance. The thermal management system dissipates heat and saves power, so your V-Power amp will run reliably for years to come.

The Alpine MRP-M1000 mono amplifier drives your subwoofer system with up to 1,000 watts RMS — enough to satisfy the hungriest bass setup. The low-pass filter puts you in command of the frequencies that reach your subs, while the variable bass boost is armed with plenty of low-end punch. A subsonic filter prevents wasted energy by eliminating ultra-low bass, putting all the power where you need it.

Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow you to connect this amp in almost any vehicle. Let a V-Power amplifier transform the sound of your car's audio system.

    Features

Power Supply: The MRP-M1000 amplifier's power supply uses MOSFETs to convert DC battery voltage to the higher DC voltages needed for high power. It supplies positive and negative voltages around 0V, rather than around 6V as with conventional single-polarity power supplies. The result is higher power levels and a dynamic range wider by as much as 10dB.

Inputs: The amplifier offers both line-level and speaker-level inputs for 2 channels. The supplied speaker-level input harness allows you to connect this amplifier to a receiver without preamp outputs; aftermarket or factory. The speaker level inputs will accept the output from a high powered radio.

Terminal Covers: The amp comes with two plastic covers that protect and insulate the RCA, power, and speaker connections. Four supplied machine screws attach the covers to the amplifier.

    Controls

Low Pass Filter: The amp is equipped with a 50-200Hz variable low-pass filter with a slope of 24dB/octave. This being a mono subwoofer amp, the crossover is always engaged.

Subsonic Filter: This amp utilizes a subsonic filter at 15Hz to eliminate super low frequencies that can rob power and damage speakers. The subsonic filter operates at all times, and cannot be turned off.

Bass EQ: The Bass EQ circuit provides a variable boost (0-12dB) at 50 Hz.

    Connections

    Left Side Of Amplifier:

    • GND (ground): gold-plated set screw terminal, accommodates bare wire up to 4 gauge
    • Battery: gold-plated set screw terminal, accommodates bare wire up to 4 gauge
    • Remote: gold-plated set screw terminal, accommodates bare wire up to 8 gauge
    • Speaker Output: gold-plated set screw terminal, accommodates bare wire up to 8 gauge

Note: Alpine recommends 4 gauge power and ground wire (minimum).

    Right Side Of Amplifier:

    • Line Inputs: 1 pair of gold-plated stereo RCA jacks
    • Speaker Level Input: Molex plug input for supplied 4-pin harness

    Good Amp

Written By 07avy, Atlanta. GA on Sunday, December 02, 2012

This amp is a beast. I have 2 Kicker Solo Classics (600 rms each) and they match up nicely. She does run pretty hot which can't be good so I took off one star. Lets see how it holds up. A true 1000 rms watts at 2 ohms is hard to beat at the price. I recommend this baby.
    Pros:
not too big, powerful, easy connections and tuning & great price
    Cons:
no rca outs, no bass knob (can buy a universal) & does run hot but has yet to shut down

    Can't take the heat

Written By Gary J, Tulsa, OK on Tuesday, March 27, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, this amp was installed correctly with plenty of airspace and wired correctly. Like others have stated, it sounds great! That only lasts for maybe 30 minutes if you are really pushing your subs and it then goes into protect mode. I had it connected to two Polk MM 12" DVC speakers in a sealed box. It got about as loud as I expected it too but it could not handle much volume for long. After a couple months it gave up the ghost. Not impressed. ' '
    Pros:
    Sounds great.
    Cons:
    Overheats

    Alpine MRD-1000D

Written By foursixty, Senatobia MS on Saturday, February 05, 2011

I've had it nearly three years and it was at least a couple of years old when I bought it. I used it on 2 12" Audiobahn 550RMS subs. It absolutely pounded. Keep in mind they are in a custom sealed box behind the seat of a single cab S-10, Unreal how loud it was in that tiny box. Not only loud, but the Alpine amp has a musicality about it that most other sub amps just don't have. Just take a look at the S/N ratio. The ratio is better than 100. Less noise equals cleaner power. I finally got the best of one of my subs after 2yrs. I replaced the subs with 2 Kicker Solo Classic 12's. Now it's just as loud and hits deeper and sounds even better. I have never had this amp cut out or do anything other than what it was designed to. If you take the time to hook this amp as it was meant, it is absolutely bullet-proof. I love it.

    One bad amp!

This amp is super bad. I'm pushing 2 Alpine 1242D type R's in a sealed box. After i hooked up the amp and subs and turned it on, I could not believe how hard the subs where pounding. I would recommend this amp if you want some serious hard hitting sounds. It's worth the money. Thanks Troy !

    You need this AMP!

I am using this AMP to power two Kenwood W3012 subwoofers with signal from a Kenwood DNX-7140. The AMP is clear, powerful and very clean. This setup sounds great and has enough power to practically shake the ground.

    Ok amp for the buck

Written By Joseph, Roanoke, VA on Wednesday, June 17, 2009

I had one of these amp briefly to replace an older Alpine M300 amp that I had. It put out a lot of power, but did get hot on me quite a bit, powering 2 infinity perfect 10 subs. I decided to replace this amp with another Alpine PDX 1.600 amp and although the PDX was only 600 watts compared to this 1000 watt amp, in my opinion the PDX digital amps by Alpine sounds worlds better. The bass hit loud and sounded quite a bit cleaner with the PDX amp. Because the PDX amp is a digital amp it didn't get hot like the vpower amp I had. The pdx amp just got a little warm and didn't seem to draw as much power as noticable with my lights not dimming as much with each bass note. It is a good amp for the price, but from my experience, I'd spend the extra $$$ for the Alpine PDX amp. U wont regret it...

Luckily i got nice cops who havent given me any tickets and actually complimented me on how loud it is and i also set off car alarms which gets sum people mad. gonna b gettin a 12" type x in the next month but still decidin if i should get 2 type x and another one of these amps. mite b too much base tho kinda scared that i mite break a window lol

tryed to hook this amp to 2 type r's that was dumb because u cant do it,
because it is made to power only 1 sub. thank god crutchfield was able to
exchange my type r's and upgraded to get a 12"type x(should have done
that in the first place.) as far as powering the type x i couldnt ask for
    anything better.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently just got 2 Type R 12 inch 2 ohm subs and put then in a custom sealed box at the recommended .85 cu. ft. paired up with the V power 1000 watt RMS @ 2 ohm and my Pioneer HU is at -11 and these things still shake my rear view!!! Once they get broken in I'll really crank them up and see what they can do.

Great Subs for their SQ and SPL!!!!

    Big Power

Written By tower, Houston, TX on Friday, November 21, 2008

Bigger brother of the MRP-M500 -- identical for the most part, just 50% longer and putting out 2x the power for 2x the price. 1000W RMS @ 2ohms is a significant amount of power and is more than enough to push even the beefier, more expensive subs. I've used this amp on a single Alpine Type-R 15" (4+4ohm obviously, as this amp is not 1ohm capable and therefore not ideal for a single 2+2ohm sub) or on two JL 12W3's with pleasing results, though neither setup could handle all of the amp's power. As long as your subs are wired correctly and tuned properly, it will never shut off on you. It looks nice too, with end caps to cover up the connections and settings. I highly suggest a charging system upgrade with it though (capacitor or secondary battery), as it draws quite a bit of current.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am curently using this amp as a replacement for my PDX-1.1000. It performs nicely, doesn't get too hot, and has a nice appearance. My PDX is curently under repair at Crutch so I needed a replacement so I bought this one cause I absolutely love Alpine products!

The only reason I didn't give this one a perfect score is because I dont believe it pushes my type X as hard as my PDX did! It has cut out on me twice but man was I jammin! I turned my HU off then back on and it came right back, small annoyance, but this amp is still a great buy!

    Clean, Solid Bass!!!

Written By Ronald, Indianapolis, Indiana on Tuesday, April 01, 2008

    This amp will
    definetly push your
    subs! I have this
    amp hooked up to 2
    12" Alpine Type R @
    a 2ohm load and they
    sound excellent! The
    bass is clean and
    solid with no
    distortion. The only
    problem I have with
    this amp is if you
    play your music
    really loud like I
    do the amp will get
    hot and shut off in
    about 20 to 30 min,
    but keep in mind
    thats with the
    volume really
    cranked up. But
    overall you will be
    very happy with the
    sound quality.
