Metra

Our take on the Honda Accord Factory Integration Adapter

by Charlie Pastorfield

You bought a 2003-up Honda Accord — great car, but its console makes it difficult to upgrade the factory radio. Metra's integration adapter allows you to install an aftermarket DIN-sized (2" tall) receiver in the Accord's dash panel, while maintaining all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning controls.

The adapter includes all climate controls found in the Accord, and it's a perfect match for the color, texture, and contours of your dash. All controls on the adapter are backlit for night driving, and all factory functions are retained. Warranty: 1 year.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

OEM Integration Kit: The included OEM integration kit provides a radio housing provision for single-DIN European mount and ISO mount aftermarket head units. This OEM integration kit also includes integrated single zone climate controls.

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required and sold separately.

It works . . . Kinda

Written By BobR, Chicago on Saturday, January 12, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit does work and does provide a decent look in the dash, but due to a design flaw it doesn't appear to be possible to install it cleanly so the knobs for the climate control don't pop off. My installer installed it twice because he thought he had done something wrong, but it appears that that is just how it fits. If you buy this, you should probably set your expectations accordingly.
Pros:
Look is decent and all controls work.
Cons:
Bad design that fits poorly.

Not a quality product but there are no other options

Written By Anonymous, Columbus, OH on Wednesday, January 09, 2013

This adapter is not made well at all. The fit is off and the knobs are low quality. The "self-programming" feature for the climate controls does not work as stated. The issue is what to do if you have a Honda Accord for the said years and are buying a din stereo; there is nothing else on the market. Cruchfield might want to reach out to this manufacuturer to see if getting the quality up on this product is possible. Even better, Cruchfield might want to seek out other manufacturers to build a competitive product. This product does not live up to the Cruchfield name.
Pros:
Makes it possible to install a din size stereo in a Honda Accord
Cons:
Cheap. Bad Fit. Climate controls don't work at stated. Knobs are cheap.

Honda Accord Factory Integration Adapter

Written By Mike, Miami,Fl on Monday, January 07, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like a few other posts, I agree with the fact that the buttons that control the fan speed and temp control are sub standard, and there is a delay with the A/C and stereo once you turn on the ignition, But the overall fit was good, and the installation went very smooth. I recommend this product because the alternative of putting the new stereo underneath the existing one with the standard kit you get, didn't make any sense to me. So far so good, we'll see how it lasts over time.
Pros:
Easy Installation
Cons:
Fan and temp control knobs are not the quality of factory Honda equipment.

Great Fix

Written By Chris B, Rutland, MA on Saturday, January 05, 2013
Installed in a 2006 Honda Accord VP
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The factory Honda radio died and the thought of installing a second unit in the lower storage compartment was not appealing. The fit is flawless and the finish is about a half a shade off but good enough. Installed easily and included the appropriate harness and connections for the controls. The quality of the fan and temp control knobs are not the same as Honda's but they do the job. There is a slight delay when using or changing the climate controls with the new unit but once you get used to it they work perfectly. Would recommend this to a friend and certainly would use it again.
Pros:
Great for the money and the situation. Easy install, a great fix for using an aftermarket radio.
Cons:
Slight delay when using/adjusting climate controls

Not as good as you might expect

Written By Anonymous, Boston, MA on Monday, December 10, 2012
Installed in a 2005 Honda Accord LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasn't happy with the standard stereo installed in my accord. I wanted to have a head unit that had the ability to connect to my iPod/iPhone that would display album art etc & have blue tooth built in for AD2P music streaming and phone calls. Basically wanted more versatility than the standard factory head units. This worked great with the stereo I chose - just with the finish and controls were better.
Pros:
replaces heating controls illuminated and dims with the rest of the dash works great with 7" motorized flip-out touchscreen 1 dim stereo's
Cons:
knobs are cheap plastic is deep back and does not match plastic on dash so it sticks out controls can be sketchy to operate can not use with honda trim kits as the dimensions are different knobs don't turn easy buttons sometimes don't switch as you would expect them to - takes multiple tries once in a while

Not bad, but not Honda Quality

Written By wrenchspinner, Cleveland on Monday, December 03, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ok, Here is what it is and what it isn't. It is a replacement to add an aftermarket stereo. It works ok, I havent had issues with the knobs falling off or the buttons sticking, however it is possible. The knobs seem rather tight and dont spin as freely as the OEM ones do. I noticed that if the unit is not snapped in place then the buttons could stick. This needs to be pushed in until it clicks and then it will sit flush. Once this was positioned correctly, the buttons do not stick. Now for what it isn't.....This is not an OEM part. It is cheaply made, as any non OEM part would be. This is not Honda quality. The receiver sits very far into it and looks odd. The color is close but not spot on. The texture is not like OEM. The fit is actually decent, not exact but decent. I think the biggest problem is that it is for a Honda, and Honda owners are used to very high quality. The nice part about this is that I can now use an aftermarket stereo. The OEM unit worked but the sound quality was lacking, now wit a new unit it is much better and I can enjoy my system. Overall I would do this again and I would recommend this based on having a much better stereo now.
Pros:
Allows you to use a much better aftermarket stereo. Decent quality...so far
Cons:
scratches easily and not OEM quality. Looks rather bland and boring

Cons:

Works great in Accord '06

Written By MikeA, Newburyport, MA on Monday, October 29, 2012
Installed in a 2006 Honda Accord EX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a bit wary after reading the reviews, especially regarding the quality of the product. My factory radio was dying, no lights, and would turn on/off intermittently, so it had to go. I could not imagine having a second radio installed under the bad one, so this was really the only option (outside of purchasing a new head unit). I am very pleased to report that the fit and function are exactly as advertised. It matches the interior of my Accord very well, and controls are fine, maybe a slight delay as the other reviewers noted, but nothing significant. I matched this with a Kenwood receiver and new Polk speakers in the doors, and the sound is fantastic.
Pros:
Functions as adverstised. Clean install, though pulling the Accord apart was a bit tedious. Lights are bright and buttons programmed automatically on my (single climate control zone) system.
Cons:
Do the wiring/soldering before opening up the car to save time. Strongly recommend solder and not just twisting the wires together. I can see how chipping/scratching the finish could easily happen during installation, as the fit is tight. Just go carefully and you will be fine.

Honda Accord Factory Integration Adapter

Written By Erb, Florence SC on Monday, October 29, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Exact fit in car, looks like factory. I had a problem with the first one but Crutchfield replaced it quickly and this one works great. If you need this adapter it is a must from Crutchfield or you will pay twice as much for it anywhere else. Thanks Crutchfield.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works about like I expected. Much better than my OEM unit that didn't light up and CD changer ate my CDs. Looks good. Controls can get stuck and take a while to change the climate control settings.
Pros:
Lights up, works like it is supposed to
Cons:
Takes a while to work, Also sometimes you have to push the button that is working then the one that you want to get it to change from defrost to vent...

Easy to install, looks OK, not durable

Written By jpq, Deerfield Beach, FL on Saturday, September 29, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product is easy to install and looks OK. We've had it 1 1/2 years and one of the knobs fell off. We contacted Crutchfield and we are now out of warranty and no parts available. Can only purchase the console at full price. If I were going to purchase again, I'd verify parts availability and probably would not buy this unit again.
Pros:
Easy to install
Cons:
No support for parts after warranty.

Clean install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very cool piece, makes swapping stock radio out a breeze. As others have said, the dials aren't Honda quality, and the paint finsih is very delicate. But its the only option to put a aftermarket deck in the Accord. Be very very careful when installing, the paint chips easy. I put blue tape over the edges and still chipped some off.
Pros:
Great fit, looks cool, easy instal
Cons:
Cheap paint, dials are a little stiff.

Junk

Written By John M, Vernon, NJ on Tuesday, September 25, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Junk. Stopped working after 10 days. Heat stuck on defrost unless "vent" selected but it blows air on the floor. Today the heat is stuck on "vent" and the buttons do nothing. Now it has to be returned, not looking forward to another 3 hours reinstalling my head unit. Switches are cheap in look and feel and have some lag time.
Pros:
Better than a giant hole in my dash. Fit well.
Cons:
Defrost, floor, vent switches broke after 10 days. Cheap controls. Cheap finish. Junk.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like the adapter, I just thought it would be higher quality. It fits good but the color is not exactly the same, the knobs feel cheap, the lights are dim. I wouldn't pay full price for the adapter.
Pros:
Nice clean finish
Cons:
Lights are dim, not worth the full price. Cheap material for expensive price.

seems fine to me

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For all the 7th Gen owners that have the factory back light failure of the resistor in the head unit. This unit is perfect for upgrading to aftermarket radio in one step. Half price when bought with stereo makes the pocket expense and other review complaints way more easy to swallow.
Pros:
Easy installation, works as described. Price when bought with stereo.
Cons:
Yes, not a perfect match for interior. Have asked passengers opinions about looks. Some are surprised that it's not factory and others concede that while not factory the fitment doesn't look out of place. They all agree that second radio in cubbyhole would look way sillier. I agree with latter and second radio silliness.

Good value. Easy to install. Would appreciate connectors instead of having to solder unit wires to adapter. Temp and fan dials are of low tactile quality. But gets job done.
Pros:
Easy to install.
Cons:
Needed to solder adapter and low quality temp and fan dials.
