Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the Pioneer DEH-4400HD

by Ken Nail

If you want the best in radio sound quality, tap into the high-fidelity sound of digital HD Radio™ with Pioneer's DEH-4400HD CD receiver. Its built-in tuner lets you experience FM reception that approaches CD quality, along with the alternate programming choices offered by many stations. And this receiver really looks as good as it sounds, with a sharp dot-matrix LCD display and selectable color choices for the display and buttons.

Pioneer DEH-4400HD

Radio's not the only thing that'll sound better
It's no stretch to say that the sound of Pioneer receivers is legendary. This receiver's conservatively rated MOSFET amplifier uses special transistors to ensure strong full-range output that stands with any car stereo on the market — you'll hear solid lows and crisp highs from all your music sources. And you'll like the flexibility that the 3-band equalizer offers for dialing in just the right sound for your car and your taste.

More music choices
If you don't listen to the radio all the time, you'll appreciate the range of options this receiver offers. Plug an iPod® or iPhone® into the front-panel USB input and you'll be able to use your receiver's controls to zip through your songs and playlists. With a 1-amp output, the USB port will keep your device fully charged even through periods of heavy usage.

You'll also find an auxiliary input, so you can plug in Dock & Play satellite radios, game consoles, and other devices. And, if you like CDs, this stereo will handle all your CDs, as well as discs or thumb drives you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files.

Want to keep your steering wheel coan adapter (not included)  ntrols?
In most vehicles you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Pioneer stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Pioneer, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

      HD Radio

HD Radio: The Pioneer DEH-4400HD's built-in HD Radio tuner lets you listen to the radio with the same fidelity as your digital music. HD Radio features high quality audio, FM multi-casting, and data services. With HD Radio, your FM stations offer near CD-quality sound, AM stations provide FM-like sound, and there is crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion. Best of all, HD Radio is 100% subscription free. The unit's tuner also supports analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to HDRadio.com to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 3 multicast programs (HD1 to HD3, and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible analog or HD AM/FM stations.

Supertuner IIID: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

Reception Blending: If a digital broadcast reception condition gets poor, this unit automatically switches to the analog broadcast of the same frequency level. If this function is set to "On", the tuner switches between digital broadcast and analog broadcast automatically. If this function is 'Off', reception will be conducted within an analog broadcast.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest analog or HD stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

      Disc Playback

Compatible Discs: The Pioneer DEH-4400HD supports playback of CD-Audio, CD-Text, CD-R, and CD-RW discs.

MP3/WMA Playback: This unit can play MP3 and WMA files recorded on, CD-R and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name. Up to 8 directories, 99 folders and 999 files per disc are recognized by this unit.

WAV File Playback: The DEH-4400HD offers playback of audio WAV files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs. The head unit supports 8-bit and 16-bit LPCM (Linear PCM) WAV files with a sampling frequency between 16 to 48 kHz.

File/Track Name List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD or connected USB device, so you can easily access your music. The Name List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc.

Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.

Auto Off Eject: When you eject a disc, the unit will automatically power off (unless you switch sources before ejecting the disc).

Installation Angle: Optimum CD playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 60-degrees.

      USB/iPod/Aux Connection

Front-Panel USB Input: The unit's front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB portable audio player or USB flash memory that is USB Mass Storage Class compliant.  Your USB memory device must be formatted in FAT 12/16/32. Up to 8 directories, 500 folders, and 15000 files per USB device are recognized by this unit. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name, plus comments.

      • MP3/WMA Files: MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported.
      • WAV Files: 8-bit and 16-bit WAV (LPCM) files with a sampling frequency between 16 to 48 kHz are supported.

Note: USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On. This unit cannot recognize USB devices via a USB hub.

iPod Direct Connection: The Pioneer DEH-4400UB's front-panel USB port can be used to connect your iPod/iPhone to the head unit, via Pioneer's dock connector-to-USB cable (130CDIU50 / 130CDIU51, sold separately) or the dock connector-to-USB cable which comes with your iPod/iPhone. The DEH-4400HD supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible iPod/iPhone.

Note: If you have an iPod nano (7th gen), iPod touch (5th gen), or iPhone 5; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit.

iPod DAC Bypass: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 94dB. The Pioneer head unit supports audio playback of music, podcasts, audiobooks, and music apps stored on your iPod or iPhone.

iPod Control: You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the head unit's front-panel controls, from its clickwheel/touchscreen, or via a streamed app from your iPhone.

      • Head Unit: From the head unit, you can browse your iPod/iPhone's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Playlist, Composer, Podcast, or Audiobook (your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen will be locked). Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically. In addition, the head unit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre. You can also select Random & Repeat functions for a certain song or specific folder.
      • iPod: In iPod mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone from its clickwheel or touchscreen.
      • App Mode: App mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps, such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Last.fm, Rhapsody, & Slacker from your iPhone (iOS 3.0+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode and App Mode will provide only limited (basic), if any, control over the app. Available controls may include - Play/Pause & Skip Previous/Next.

iPod Display: The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information, including - Track number, Folder number, Elapsed playing time, Song title, Artist name, and Album title.

Note: There is no music information displayed when this unit is set to 'App Mode'. Instead, all music information will be displayed on your iPod/iPhone's LCD screen. The head unit's LCD will only display the text - 'App Mode'.

iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit will not charge the Apple iPad.

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-4400HD is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player. AUX must be turned on in the setup menu in order to be selected as a source.

      Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-4400HD is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-4400HD are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-4400HD are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
      • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
      • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

3-Way Rotary Commander: The Pioneer DEH-4400HD features a 3-Way Rotary Commander for easy control. You can scroll through your music and audio settings with greater ease using the 3-way rotary commander.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

EEQ (Easy EQ): The DEH-4400HD is equipped with a 3-band EQ with 6 preset EQ settings: Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom, and EQ Flat. The Custom band can be adjusted as follows:

      • Bass: +/- 6dB at 100 Hz
      • Mid: +/- 6dB at 1 kHz
      • Treble: +/- 6dB at 10 kHz

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

2.0-Volt Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer DEH-4400HD features two pairs of 2.0-volt preamp outputs. The unit's rear preamp output can be configured as a fading rear-channel output or a non-fading subwoofer output with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level control. When configured as the subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the 18dB/octave low pass filter (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

      Display Features

Detachable Face Security: The Pioneer DEH-4400HD in-dash CD receiver features Detachable Face Security. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 27 preset colors (White to Rose), customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red, Blue, and Green brightness levels), or scan through various color settings (All/Warm/Ambient/Calm/Custom).

Ever Scroll: When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. It will auto-scroll up to 64 characters. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock display remains on. When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the clock button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

      Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The DEH-4400HD comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. The mute button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90% (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

I replaced the radio in my motorhome, couldn't have been easier. All I had to do was to match all the colored wires and connect them. The sound quality is better as is the ease of operation. I also like the fact that I can plug in my XM into the aux port, and a flash drive into the USB port. Also the High Def works great.

Like the product. Owner's manual is not well written. Sound quality and looks are good.
      Pros:
      great sound, looks great
      Cons:
title display has to be reactivated too often. Operation requires quite a bit of learning. Not all radio operations are covered in the manual.

      '92 Saturn SL2

Written By Old School, California on Sunday, December 23, 2012
      Installed in a 1992 Saturn SL2
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

OEM tape deck/receiver right channel went out after 20 years. Looking through CD/Receivers, I chose the DEH-4400HD because it provided the color choices for display and button, esp. red for night driving. Display is bright even when dimmed - brighter than the OEM lights on the dash. NOISE: No ignition or wiper motor noise at all. SOUND: Fr: 6.5 coax Memphis 15-PRC62, Rr: 6.75 coax JL Audio TR-650CXi (was Sony XS-6026, no difference in sound when compared to the JLs) HU provides VERY clear mid & highs. Plenty of clean power without an amp, but.. (1) I have to increase volume from 10-14 to 22-28 on the freeway. That's two to three turns with the knob. (2) Road noise kills the bass. (3) Loudness 1 or 2 is too much (IMO) at volume settings higher than 12. It adds too much mid-range. EQ adjustments are needed with loudness on. Crutchfield advisor recommended a compact sub woofer to slip under the seat, but I think for all that cabling I'll just add an Alpine KTP445U, which should fix the lack of gain in the volume control. INSTALL: 92 Saturn SL2 has a plastic rear support with a square hole for OEM radio chassis post. Drill 1/4" holes across at that line and punch out the rear to clear the way. HU is 1/16th shy of touching duct work. Install kit requires cutting some extra tabs from bracket and trimplate which is difficult with just a sharp knife. MENUS: Practice, practice... Station memory is easy to set, or use the scan feature. Compact flash menus are intuitive.
      Pros:
Very pleased coming from the OEM world of 20 years ago. Feature filled for the price. Good sound clarity with no detectable electrical noise. Fully adjustable display and button colors which are bright. With practice, menu navigation proficiency comes quickly.
      Cons:
Nothing specific to this HU, when compared to the HU class it falls in. For SL2's, you may consider adding a SW or an amp or both. I'll review the Alpine KTP-445U afterwards to see if it makes a difference in the bass within the full-range speaker environment and also for volume gain.

      LOVE the radio

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I love this radio. It has all of the features that I was looking for at a reasonable price. The operation does take a little garage time as others have mentioned and the demo mode is very annoying. I thought that I had it turned off, but drove around all day with changing colors, messages, blinking wavy lines etc. That night, I went back into the manual and found the instructions to make sure that the demo was turned off - stupid feature. Please include the manual if you sell your vehicle for the poor soul that would try to operate without it. The USB connection is probably my favorite followed by the HD radio. I loaded tons of songs on a flash drive and the unit shows all information just like an iPod. The HD radio is nice because Atlanta radio has very little good rock stations so at least I have a few other options to listen to including comedy and other classic rock stations. The color display selection is very nice and allowed me to match the OEM digital display of the climate control system for a factory look.
      Pros:
Great features: USB, HD Radio, Aux connection, CD Good power and nice display color selections
      Cons:
REALLY need the manual to learn how to operate.

This head unit has to be the most difficult receiver I have ever used, if it weren't already installed I would tear it out and return it. Audio setup is a joke, do yourself a favor spend an extra hundred bucks and get a better unit.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was really simple. I was referred to Crutchfield by a couple friends and also read the best reviews from the website. Just finished up installation tonight on the radio itself. If there is one thing I love it's a friendly professional company and Crutchfield has exceeded with this. Their tech support is amazing. I had a few issues that were resolved on the phone. I wasn't planning on tearing back into the project and fixing it then as I have a cold and losing my voice, but the rep ALAN made me feel confident enough in the amount of time it would take and I got it done in no time. I am very pleased with this radio, it has every function I need and then some for anything I want to add on later. I am pairing it with three way Pioneer speakers in the front. I can't say enough how simple it was to do and how much I love Crutchfield. I will always buy and install with them from here on out. This company has earned my business for a lifetime. I had some doubts in the beginning but once I saw the ticket price at car toys I knew I could do it for a lot cheaper in my own truck and get enjoyment and satisfaction in doing it myself, and I'm glad I did. If I had any bumps along the way it wasn't anything I couldn't get resolved quickly with Crutchfield. Again, the tech support is truly outstanding and I would recommend them to anyone, young or old.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my factory radio in my Pontiac Vibe with this about a month ago. It has better sound with more adjustability and neat display but the menu leaves much to be desired. Instructions require lots of reading between the lines, not straight forward at all and settings depend a lot on menu start conditions. Takes A LOT of 'garage/parked' time figuring it out; messing with it while driving is equivalent to texting with a Crackberry! Worse, it's so easy to lose settings! I've already 'hit the wrong key' twice and had to reprogram ALL the settings! Save the manual, you'll need it! In fact, go to the Pioneer website and download it PDF for a back-up. I really wish it had a simple ON/OFF switch; instead, you have to press & hold the SRC button every time I start the car to shut it OFF because it always comes ON automatically. Took me almost 9 hours to install, by the time I managed to deal with all the 'little details' the instructions gloss over. While testing it outside of dash, noticed the underside felt quite warm; given the disposable quality corporate philosophy these days, I hope it lasts! AM is now weaker with more static than before, forget distant stations. However, it's a small loss given the other gains. Probably the antenna cable adapter you have to install has something to do with it. Main reason I got this is because it has CD, HD radio, USB & AUX inputs with great sound. At that, it does very well...as long as I don't upset the settings accidentally.
      Pros:
Great, very adjustable sound. Cool display Many source inputs: CD, HD radio, USB, AUX, AM/FM. Good value for price
      Cons:
Too complicated a menu, easy to loose settings.

Sounds very good! Yes I know that as a low-middle of the road it's not going to sound like a $700 reciever and since I was pairing it with new Pioneer speakers (6.5") , it's never going to sound like a audiophile home system. It' going in a 16 year old Jeep, and even with these speakers, the doors shake. It sounds 10 times better than the Infinity system with paper cone speakers.......It could be easier to operate but for the money, it can't be touched...
      Pros:
Great sound, looks good and you can match the colors to your dash.
      Cons:
      could be easier to operate...

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this to replace another Pioneer that died after 5 years of se4rvice. Hope this one will last longer. The sound is nice and I think it was worth the asking price. As for ease of use.... in today's world of computing and what have you, why can't they make it more simple to program this thing?!!! I am still playing with this and eventually I will learn all of the ins and outs. The manual could have been better written.

The kit I had to send back because I didn't need it. I used the harness from previous install and it worked fine. When I initially looked at this radio the Crutchfield site said it wouldn't fit. But it did. Easily.

I don't really care for all that "coolness" because I don't mess with settings while driving. "Cause I may never reach my destination if I do.
      Pros:
Nice sound and HD is nice to have, if it comes with it. It wasn't a deciding factor.
      Cons:
Manual and setup could be much better, easier to read and do.

I was replacing an off-brand receiver/CD in my Jeep that had stopped working & picked up the DEH-4400HD for this purpose. Though the wiring diagrams weren't too clear, I sorted out the wiring by color coding & installed the unit in 2 hours. It worked completely as advertised; the remote was a plus, as was the ability to customize display color & the added auxiliary front panel inputs. The audio adjustments were somewhat limited (equalizer), but otherwise I was completely satisfied.
      Pros:
Installation neat, many features for the money, good sound, remote a plus
      Cons:
Instructions somewhat vague, may need electronic experience to install. Limited equalizer settings, may need intermediate equalizer for fine tuning of music ranges.

I liked this product and it made my sister's 2007 toyota corolla ce's factory speakers sound good. I always drive with her and couldn't stand listening to her crappy sound in it before so I bought and installed this and it sounds so much better. Installation was relatively easy the hardest part was that I didn't' have wire strippers so I had to get those to combine the wires. Overall great and I loved it.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 12 year old car finally needed a decent upgrade, stereo-wise. I ultimately chose this one. I don't regret the choice. It makes music sound way better on the stock speakers, though by level 50, distortion starts to be noticeable, but I blame the speakers for that. I love the iPod control and that you can scan through playlists using the stereo. My one gripe is that it has three banks of FM channel presets (FM 1, 2, & 3), and only one can be used to switch to the alternate HD channel. Speaking of which, I bought this stereo with the hope of listening to all sorts of alternate HD channels, only to find out very few provide such programming. So I'm bummed about that. My only other gripe is on Crutchfield. When I got the package I discovered that I needed either a soldering iron or wire caps to do the work. It would be nice if some instructions would be given on the site of what I will need to have to do the work. Us novices, who have never done this kind of work would appreciate it.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a good basic upgrade to my factory stereo and didn't want to spend a ton of money. I think that is the case with many shoppers looking at this price point. The Pioneer DEH-4400HD had some great features for the money, and as silly as it sounds, it's nice to have a remote for quick tuning and skip features. Upgrading to the HD Radio is also a bonus. I don't typically listen to a bunch of radio stations, but I do listen a bit more now that a few are offered in HD format. You really can tell the difference in the sound quality. The USB/iPod feature is a nice addition too.it's easy to just load up a USB memory drive with music, plug it in and within seconds you can shuffle through hundreds of songs. If you prefer more control to playlists, you can use your iPod and also control it pretty easily with this radio. All in all.it's a great upgrade and well worth the investment. This was my first radio installation and the included instructions were fairly simple to follow, but I did have to look up some videos on YouTube to gain a better understanding of how the dash panel and connections came off. Only feedback might be to have a little more detail in the step by step instructions and a few more pictures for us beginners. But hey, I'm one of those guys that hates to call customer service for help!
      Pros:
Great value, good price point for an upgrade from stock radio. Great sound quality is a major upgrade vs. stock radio too. Front panel USB and AUX inputs are great, as is the remote. HD radio function provides a major sound improvement - even for AM talk radio.
      Cons:
Display is sometimes difficult to read in daylight.
