Our take on the Sanus Euro Foundations® EFSat

by James Ralston

For satellite and surround speakers, proper positioning is a must. That's why Sanus designed their sleek, durable EFSat stands specifically for smaller speakers.

These stands give you plenty of placement options. Their height is adjustable from 28" to 42", so you can position your tweeters right at ear level for optimal performance. With three different mounting methods — a 2-1/2" x 3-1/4" top plate, a 5" x 5" top plate, and an "L" bracket — you can mount virtually any satellite/surround speaker, including back-bolt and bottom-bolt types. The stands are attractively styled, with a black powder-coat finish that'll look great in any room.

Details:

  • adjustable height (28" to 42")
  • adjustable floor spikes and screw-in rubber feet for added stability
  • includes 2-1/2" x 3-1/4" top plate, 5" x 5" top plate, and "L" bracket for mounting versatility

Features

Design: Each speaker stand contains a solid tri-corner black metal base, a slender (1" diameter) telescoping pillar with a black finish, and a choice of four different speaker mounting top plates. The mounting height is adjustable from 28" to 42" to accommodate virtually any satellite/surround speaker, including back-bolt and bottom-bolt types. There are adjustable floor spikes to provide stable footing on carpeted areas, as well as custom screw-in rubber feet to provide stability and minimal resonance on any floor surface. Each speaker stand can support speakers up to 10 pounds each.

Benefits: The job of the speaker stand is to raise the loudspeaker to ear height. When this is done correctly, most aspects of the listening experience benefit. Bass is tighter, mids and highs are clearer and imaging detail improves.

Adjustable Spiked Feet: Three spiked feet and locking nuts are provided for each speaker stand. The spiked feet pierce the carpeting and anchor the stand to the floor, keeping the speaker stable and reducing resonance. With the spiked feet installed, the stand height increases an additional 0.9" to 1.3". Note: The spiked feet can scratch floor surfaces. If you do not wish to use the spiked feet, Sanus has included rubber feet for use on scratch-sensitive flooring.

Speaker Mounting Methods: Two different speaker mounting top plates and two different brackets are furnished to accommodate most satellite/surround speaker styles. The 5" x 5" top plates and the 2-1/2" x 3-1/4" top plates can be used for bottom bolt mounting or tape mounting; double sided tape pads are provided. The "L" brackets can be used for small speakers that have a threaded insert centered on the back. A plastic spacer (provided) allows the speaker to stand approximately 1/2" away from the brackets. The "EFKQ" brackets are provided to specifically support Klipsch Quintet speakers (not sold by Crutchfield). The optional "EFB" bracket (item 051EFB) can be used with these stands to support twin bolt mount speakers, such as Polk's 7200 and 7600 system satellites. The optional "FMR100x" speaker mounting brackets are available directly from Sanus to support Boston Acoustics MR100x speakers.

Hardware: For speakers with threaded mounting inserts, three different speaker bolts are provided:

  • 5/8" Pan-head 1/4-20 bolt
  • 1" Pan-head 10-32 bolt
  • 7/8" Socket-head bolt (requires 3/16" Allen wrench--not provided)

Note: All supplied mounting hardware may not apply to your particular speaker.

Speaker Wire Management:  Wires can be concealed by routing them through an opening near the bottom of the pillar and up through the tube. There is a wire exit hole near the top of each inner extension tube and in each top mounting plate.

Does the job but nothing special

Written By Andy, Boston, MA on Friday, November 30, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speaker stands are ok, but apparently every other satellite speaker stand out there is horrible.

First, the finish on them has a hammered type of look, i.e. it is not smooth. That's ok, but it also comes off really easy. Second, the machining of the threads for the screws and parts is very inconsistent. I bought three pairs of these (two really, but one had to be returned), and in one box, everything went together smoothly, and the other box felt like everything was the wrong size. Thankfully, they are still pretty sturdy once they are put together, The assembly process itself is easy.

Depending on your speakers and brackets, you may have a very hard time with the types of connectors you want to use without actually modifying the parts. You certainly will not be able to use anything thicker than 14 gauge wire, and even that is not easy.

Lastly, on the aforementioned return...the height adjustment knob can strip out pretty easily on these, which is why I had to return mine. I would be careful not to over-tighten.

All in, given the lack of other great options out there, I would buy these again. They are not bad, but they aren't great either. They are very sturdy and provide plenty of confidence that your speakers are safe, while looking somewhat good.
Pros:
Sturdy, give confidence speakers are safe. Not expensive Easy to assemble
Cons:
Machining quality and consistency not that great Can't fit anything thicker than 14 gauge wire Some speakers may need modifying to get them to work right Adjustment knob easily strips.

Adjustible Satellite Speaker Stand

Written By MikeL, Broken Arrow, OK on Wednesday, October 17, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the second pair of these stands I have owned. They are stouter than other stands I have used. However, even though they are rated for speakers up to 10 pounds they are a bit wobbly with my current 8 pound speakers on them. They are plenty solid with lighter speakers though. One problem I have had with both sets of these stands is that the locking bolt strips out easily. If you have a 5 mm tap it is not difficult to take the stands apart and re-tap the fitting. Then reassemble the stand and replace the bolt that came with the stand with a 5 mm bolt. While I shouldn't have to repair a brand new stand, it's easier for me to fix it than return it.
Pros:
easy assembly, more stable than other satellite stands
Cons:
will not steadily support speakers at the upper end of its weight rating, locking bolt strips out easily

Sanus Euro Foundations® EFSat

Written By gd, St. Augustine, FL on Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used these stands with Energy RC micro 5.1's and they worked well. There was no room for the wires unless you used the largest spacer provided but then the longer screw provided by the Energy micros was too short for attachment. Coincidentally the screw that attached the base to the pole of the stand was the same diameter and threading as the hole in the back of the speaker and long enough for the spacer so I switched them and this worked perfectly (luckily). I didn't like the way the wires came in from the side so I drilled a hole at the bottom of the angle of the "L" bracket through which I placed the wire which made it virtually unnoticeable when viewed from the front (just like the pictures they show you). If you're so inclined to go as far as I did I suggest to use a drill press for making the holes. This should have been done at the factory and the fact that I had to rearrange the screws is why I gave it four stars. I actually used Monster XPHPCIBIG 14 gauge wires (I know, overkill, but its what I had) point being they did fit inside the tube. With a little coaxing they got through. Quality was very good except that the height adjustment hardware and mechanics could have been a little better. Never-the-less, I'm very pleased with my purchase and the guys at Crutchfield are great!

Sanus EFSat stands

Written By Dave, Kalamazoo, MI on Wednesday, May 12, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The stands are sturdy, well constructed, and stable on my carpet using the provided carpet pegs. They were simple and pretty much intuitive to put together; you just have to look at the pictures carefully and pay attention to the orientation of the pieces. They arrived unblemished. You get a lot of parts in the box, but that's necessary as they wanted to try and accommodate all the various speakers out there. I put Klipsch HD Theatre 300 speakers on mine, but reversed the speaker so that it was mounted inside the "L" bracket instead of outside to keep the weight of the speaker centered on the stand. Would I buy them again? For the price, you bet!

Sanus Euro Foundations® EFSat

Written By Sexy, Cincinnati, OH on Monday, August 17, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great product for the price. We needed a speaker stand that could
place some surround speakers above a high sectional couch (40") and
these were the only ones we could find that would work.

I'm using Polk RM75 speakers and they mounted perfectly on top of the
stand without adding any other hardware other than a 1/4" screw. I don't
think they are the nicest looking speaker stands but most of the product is
hidden between a high console table and the couch. Still though, I think
they look great for the price and they are very sturdy.

Personally, I didn't think they were difficult to put together but they come
with a lot of mounting hardware for various speakers and that could be
overwhelming as you unpack the box. After feeding the speaker wire
through them, I'd say it took about 15 minutes of time to assemble each
stand.

Thanks to everyone for writing helpful reviews and kudos to the Crutchfield
team for their excellent customer support and great website.

So far, so good!

Written By Rick, Raleigh, NC on Monday, May 18, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these stands for my Home Theater rear speakers. They were in
perfect shape from shipping, although the box was a little rough! These
were easy to assemble, and overall quality is reasonable for the price. They
support the speakers well and are easy to place behind furniture when
needed. I wasn't crazy about the bases, and for the height, I would have
preferred non-adjustable poles. But overall, they work well!

Work great for me & they look good

Written By John, Greenville, NC on Tuesday, April 07, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These stands work perfectly with the Klipsch Quintet speakers. They are weighted well so they do not tip over. The carpet spikes work well & the cord is hidden inside the stand. They were easy to assemble. The paint was in great shape w/ no peeling or flaking as stated in some other reviews(I purchased the black color). The package was missing the specific mounting brackets for my speakers, yet Sanus quickly sent the missing part through the mail at no cost. Their customer service was right there with Crutchfield. I am very satisfied with the product & it made it easy to position my speakers where I needed them. They look good too!

Terrible stands

Written By Steve, Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, February 21, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a horrible speaker stand. It is very complex to assemble but that is not its main problem. The stand would not stay tightly assembled. In other words the platform for the speaker as well as the connection from the base to the center pole would loosen and the whole stand would wobble. Terrible!

A Good Product at a Good Price

Written By Francesca, Chicago, IL on Sunday, February 15, 2009

These are good-quality, moderately-expensive speaker stands. I got them for my rear-surround speakers, to get the speakers up to ear level where they are supposed to be, and they worked well. They are also exactly the right size and shape (note the tripod bases) for the behind-the-furniture space they needed to fit. I particularly like the easy-access design to run the speaker wires through the vertical, to hide and protect the wires; I was also impressed with the variety of mounts and screws included to accept different speakers.
On the downside, none of those speaker mounts and screws fit my old speakers, so I had to add several washers to snug them into place. Also, the wrinkle-finish paint is of poor quality; it flakes off and scuffs easily.

Inexpensive, look great, sturdy, all that

Written By Edward, Leonardtown, MD on Saturday, January 24, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There is nothing bad to say about these speakers. Its hard to get all jazzed up because, hey, they are speaker stands. These things come with a bunch of adapters for different kinds of speakers. They also come with spikes if you want to put them on carpet. The wire can run through the vertical tube which gives a neat appearance. I put all 4 surround speakers on these and it looks great and sounds great. Don't forget to run your speaker wire through the tube before you assemble the whole thing.

just right

Written By Will, Boston, MA. on Sunday, October 12, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Polk RM6880 home theater setup and wanted some decent looking stands for the rear speakers. These Sanus stands were just what I was looking for. If you attach the Polk plastic mounting bracket to the stand, you can then easily mount the speakers to the stands. nice heavy weight construction and hollow for hiding the speaker wire. The only thing I didn't like were the look of the bases but I guess if you want any speaker stand to not tip over the base has to be a bit wide. I would have preferred them to be a bit flatter at the base.

Solid stands

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These stands are solid for my Infinity satellites. There was one small piece of paint that came off, it appeared to be where it hadn't dried thoroughly, not an issue as it was not in an exposed area. I would buy these again, good value for the price.

Sanus Euro Foundations® EFSat

Written By Geo, Waterford, Maine on Sunday, March 26, 2006
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very disappointed with the quality of this product. The spiked feet would not screw into the bases without first handtapping the threads. Additionally, the black wrinkle finish was already flaking off one of the bases upon unpacking of the product. Just another product displaying the quality issues associated with imports from China!!!

Excellent Stands

Written By Len, NYC on Thursday, November 17, 2005
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Received 2 pairs of Sanus Euro EFSat stands in black from Crutchfield a few weeks ago (lightning fast shipping, by the way- thanks Crutchfield!) These are excellent, well-constructed stands, and connected perfectly to my Klipsch Quintets via the included custom Quintet brackets. Be aware that if you own Quintets, there are only two Sanus models that will fit- the Euro and the Hover. Assembly was easy, and the parts and assembly are clearly laid out in the instruction manual. It was a little tricky to thread the wire up into the stand, but ultimately proved to be no problem. There are a variety of brackets and mounting options for the stands, and they hold the speakers quite steady. They also feature adjustable height, and have carpet spikes, if you're into that. Overall, highly recommended- both Sanus and Crutchfield. Satisfied customer!
