My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

The heavy-hitting Infinity Reference 7451a 4-channel amp is more than ready to take on your mobile audio needs — whether it's powering top-end component speakers, or supplying the juice to get two subs rocking.

If you're powering components, the 7451a offers four channels of 111 watts RMS power, ready to make the highs sing and the lows pound. Variable high- and low-pass filters (32-320 Hz, 12 dB/octave) allow you to trim the range of frequencies being amplified so you can maximize speaker performance.

If you're running a pair of subs, the 7451a pumps out 278 watts by two channels in bridged mode. That's more than enough wattage to drive all but the most power-hungry subs. The MOSFET power supply ensures your subs won't ever be starved for power, and there's also a bass boost (0-12 dB at 50 Hz) for when you need that extra kick.

The 7451a will integrate smoothly into your system, thanks to preamp- and speaker-level inputs, as well as full-range preamp outputs.

Features

PWM MOSFET Power Supply: The Infinity Reference 7541a is equipped with a high-output PWM MOSFET power supply, which ensures optimum power delivery into numerous impedances with low distortion.

CEA-2006 Compliance: The specifications given by Infinity for the Reference Series 7541a amplifier comply with the new CEA-2006 Amplifier Power Standard from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.

Protection Circuitry: The amp features 4-way protection, and will shut itself down in the following cases:

DC Output: DC voltage is detected on the amplifier output
Temperature: Amplifier is overheated
Over/Under Voltage: Voltage at the +12V (Battery) terminal is less than 8.5V or more than 16V
Short Circuit: Short circuit in speaker or speaker wire

Status LEDs: Three LEDs on top of the amplifier provide the status of the amplifier. The "Clip" LED indicates the amplifier is being overdriven, and the speakers may be in danger. The "Power" LED indicates the amplifier is on. The "Protection" LED flashes or glows to indicate the amplifier has entered the protection mode because of a malfunction.

Channel Configuration: The 7541a can be configured as a 4-channel amp for driving two pairs of full-range speakers, a 3-channel amp (bridging one set of channels) for driving one pair of full-range speakers and one subwoofer, or as a 2-channels (bridging both sets of channels) for driving two subwoofers.

Bass Boost: The amp is equipped with a variable 0-12dB bass boost at 50Hz. The bass boost affects only the rear channels.

Selectable High/Low Pass Filter: The 7541a has variable 12dB per octave, 32-320Hz crossovers for the front and rear channels. You can independently select high-pass or low-pass operation, or flat (for full-range operation) for each crossover.

Mono/Stereo Switch: A 2-way switch allows you to select stereo operation for full-range speakers or mono operation for subwoofers. There are switches for the front and rear channels for independent selection.

Left Side of Amp:

Preamp Output: 1 pair of gold-plated RCA jacks (amp provides a non-filtered, summed stereo signal for daisy-chaining additional amplifiers)
Front Channels:
- Preamp Input (Front): 1 pair of gold-plated RCA jacks for the front channels
- High-Level Input (Front): 4-pin Molex jack for connecting the supplied 2-channel speaker level input harness to the head unit's front speaker outputs
- Input Level: Rotary control to match the level of the front channels' input signal
- Mono/Stereo Switch: 2-way switch to select mono or stereo operation for the front channels
- Mode: 3-way switch to select the front channels' crossover mode: Flat (no filter), LP (low-pass), or HP (high-pass)
- Freq: Rotary control to set the cutoff frequency of the front channels built-in crossover
Rear Channels:
- Bass Boost: Rotary control to set the level of the 50Hz bass boost (rear channels only)

Right Side of Amp:

Speaker Output: 8 Set screw terminals for connecting speaker wires; handles up to 8 gauge (16 gauge minimum recommended)
Fuse: Slot for two 30A fuses (installed)
Power:
- +12V: Set screw terminal for power wire from battery; handles up to 4 gauge wire (8 gauge minimum recommended)
- Remote: Set screw terminal for remote turn-on lead; handles up to 8 gauge wire (18 gauge minimum recommended)
- Ground: Set screw terminal for ground; handles up to 4 gauge wire (8 gauge minimum recommended)

Wiring Recommendation

Fuse Rating: The 7541a has two 30-amp fuses for a total fuse rating of 60 amps. If you use an 8-gauge amp wiring kit, you should choose a kit which includes a 60-amp fuse to accommodate the amp's fuse rating. If the kit includes a 40-amp fuse, you should upgrade the fuse to a 60-amp fuse (211AGU60 or 142P60F4i). All of the 4-gauge amp wiring kits carried by Crutchfield include a 60-amp or 80-amp fuse.

Solid amp

Not a bad amp for its price. Its a big solid heavy amp. If your a sound quality competitor you might want something different such as JL Audio. To the human ear you cant really tell any distortion though. Im running this amp with 2 pairs of JL audio C5 61/2inch components hooked up to it in a 4ohm load. Not bad for infinity its worth buying for a 4 channel amp. It says its 111x4 but if it was bench tested i bet its closer to 130-140 watts per channel! If you use a good head unit,good rca jacks and good overall wiring in your car this is definetly worth the cash.

Pros:

plenty of power,4channels, solid durable amp,price is right.

Cons:

wouldnt use crossovers on amp i would use a regular 4-8 channel crossover. Big and heavy, but is that really bad,,,unless you have little room? Not the cleanest of amps if your a sound quality competitor but humans cant tell too much

Very Good Amp

This is a very good amp....there are no problems...people have said that they just wanted it louder and louder...this amp goes very loud, however Infinity's plan to to have a more clear sounding amp rather than a "loud" one....this works great on compents....amp just get a little warm at times...

Great amp

i've had this amp for over a year now, and i've had zero problems with it. i have it powering polk sr6500's in the front and infinity ref 5x7's in the rear. Now people say they want it to be louder...make sure you check the sensitivity of the speaker. i have the gain turned up to about 12 or 1 o clock for my front channels and i have it turned to about 9 o clock for my rears. the sensitivity of the polks are 90db and the infinity's are 94 db. If you have speakers like alpine with a lower sensitivity of 87 or so, you will have to turn the gain up too much to a point of distortion and ruin your speakers or amps. i would recommend powering speakers with a higher sensitivity with this amplifier, it'll make your ears bleed.

Great amp

We are using this amp in two 35-ft limo coaches. The system is set up the same in both. There is no comparison to any of the systems we have used before it. It drives two Infinity Kappa 652.7i's in series on each channel (4-ohm load). The subwoofer frequencies are filtered in the Panasonic CQ-C8803U head unit and passed to an Infinity Reference 611a. The 611a drives two Infinity Kappa Perfect 12vq component subs. Two Tsunami 1.2-farad caps are installed to support the amps. As long as the levels and filters are all set properly, this system sounds great. We have had it up to around 75% with no audible clipping. We would have to wear hearing protection to get it any higher as it becomes very uncomfortable to listen to at these levels. This is certainly not a competition grade system, but we have more than enough power for our application. The sound is clear and crisp throughout the volume range that we have tested.

I purchased this amp after researching several brands of other 4-channel amps with similar features. I had this amp wired im my '01 Accord Coupe to a set of 6 1/2" Infinity Reference speakers (6012si), and a 10" 4-Ohm Kicker L5 DVC (another set of 6012si's are wired to my Kenwood deck)when the amp suddenly went into protection mode when playing at less than half volume. I had it bench tested at the place where it was installed and they confirmed it was toast. I was a little disillusioned as I had only had it a month. I was able to send it back and get a new one thanks to the good honest folks at Crutchfield. The sound quality is awesome and pushes the speakers with ease. I would recommmend anyone with a system setup similar to mine to get a H.O. alternator though (preferably a 200-amp one) as it is quite taxing on the car's charging/electrical system.

Nothing Negative

I have this amp running a pair of Polk DB6500 components and a pair of Polk DB650 coax speakers. I have the amp at about 40% on the 650's and 60% on the 6500's and it creates so much volume it actually hurts. I see where the clipping can be an issue. If I try to turn the amp up beyond 50% gain on the 650's, it clips with heavy bass. I imagine this has something to do with the 60 watt rating on the speakers, so I will not hold that against the amp. For the price you'll struggle to find this kind of clean power anywhere else. I'm sure there are better options out there if you want to drop some serious cash, but this is a great value for the money. The only negative I can find is this amp is power hungry. When I have the stereo cranked way up, it will actually dim the lights on hard bass hits.

I have connected this amplifier with 2 pairs of audio DB6500 polk and single I work by a month this amplifier if you read the other commentaries has problems when they are used with components and the truth I do not recommend it. Today I am without audio so that they estan repairing the amplifier

This amp is just ok. It sounds good when it is wired straight. But when you bridge it, it sounds bad. You have to bridge it by using one channel on the front and one channal on the rear. If you are using two subs this amp is not a good choice. The bass boost on it only runs the rear speakers. So if you bridge this amp you will only have boost on the the speaker that you have in the rear channel. I wired both of my subs straight through the rear channels and it sounds good but now I'm not using the front channels at all. If I new this ahead of time I would have bought a two channel amp.

Infinity Reference 7541a

I bought this amp to run some Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1s. after I got everything installed the amp clips out when I turn up the volume. It sounded great when I was pushing my Kappa 6.5s alone on the rear channel but when I got my 6.1s added to the front channel it doesn't seem to like them. I am now informed that I will have to buy a higher quality amp to run those speakers. Wish I would've known that before! Overall a decent amp for a decent price just not what I expected.

Killer

i love this amp. i bought it about 5months ago for my 95 grand prix. before i was looking for an lanzar vibe amp, but i got turned onto this one. for now i got just two channels being used cuz i allready blew my sissy 5-1/4 pionner 130watt door speakers, planning on putting some 6x8 in the doors, but the two speakers im using now is two 6x9 pionner 230watt speakers, it sounds crip and like a live concernt, as long as you take out the bass to them. you can hear them with the windows up 2 blocks away. im so glad i got this amp (and the infinity 611a with 2-12in mtx subs i wish everyone could hear it, or maybe they can :D

Hit or Miss

I bought this amp based on the high ratings it received on Crutchfield, and for a time it performed well. However, as one reviewer also stated, I kept wanting to hear it louder. This worked for certain kinds of music but not for others (i.e. deep bass).

The amp started to clip and then the rear channel went out. Maybe it was the speakers? They were Infinity 682.7cf's rated at 100W RMS. I hooked up my Polk DB5250s to the rear channel but the problem continued. Still working with Infinity on a solution but I'm not hopeful.

In the end if you don't listen to your music more than ~ 50% of max then this amp will most likely perform well. However, if your looking to drown out the system 4 cars behind you at the light, go with something better quailty.

Simply Amazing

I thought about buying a profile or kenwood amp before i bought this amp but everything in my car was infintiy so i spent the extra $$ and got this amp. WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY. Running aftermarket speakers off a head unit and an amp is like night and day.I have this pushing a pair of 3 way 6x9 references in the rear deck and 2 way 5.25 references in the front door. The mids bang and the highs scream! All the filters on this amp are great, not to mention that it is a beast of a four channel. At this price and quality there is nothing i can say but amazing. I have it mounted on the back of my rear seats next to my 611a(the amps look awesome next to each other). Paired with two 10.1 perfects in the trunk running off the 611a, this is the cleanest sounding system i have ever hear and it is loouuuuud. Only downside is that ive wasted a lot of gas money cause all i want to do is drive around with the music all the way up!

Questionable

I bought this amp from Crutchfield looking for a good deal on a powerful amp. This amp is great for the untrained ear. It seemed to power my Pioneers (TSA-1681R) very well. After a while I just wanted it louder and louder so I just turned up the gain more and more (bad idea). For some reason, these speakers never blew. Either they are that good (not likely) or the amp can't make the power advertised. Secondly, the signal to noise ratio isn't listed and for good reason. An 80dB snr is terrible for a class A/B amp. Furthermore, the power ratings are at 1% THD. That's also not good for a class A/B amp. Have'nt used it on any subs so I can't attest to how well it would power them. In conclusion if you want questionable power with the sacrifice of clean, warm sound... get this amp.

Man this amp is the bomb, white glove clean and clear reproduction of tunes. This sucker just wont let up even at high volumes. This is what i got after my alpine f450 completely died on me. Im running my tired alpine 9831 head unit. I have Infinity Kappa 6 1/2 components and the 3 way 6 x 9s running in my 2001 prelude. This amp and speakers just makes your eyes raise up(stunned) and ears bleed. I ran some friends out of the car. This is your besy buy overall

A Quality Amp

First off I want to clear up Infinity is Not Harmon/Kardon they are seprate along with JBL but both are part of Harmon/Kardon International. Anyway this is one Awesome and Clean sounding amp. Infinity did a great job putting a balance of sound, power, and affordability in this product. I have this powering 2 Polk/MOMO 6x9's and 2 Alpine Type-R componants (the older model) and the music sounds supurb with the exception of me disliking the Type-Rs. I'm very impressed and happy with my purchase. Unfortunetly before I got this amp, I bought the new MTX TC4004 series amp and both I got were defected so it was time for something that works. This amp however, fulfilled all my needs and then some. This amp also has a nice clean modern look to it, I think even more so in person than the pictures. If you're looking for a great amp to power all you're speakers this is the way to go. I'd say a great choice if you're looking to power subs but I bought them to power speakers so I couldn't honestly tell you which is better. Either way I'm sure its a great choice. You won't be dissapointed! Last but not least you can not go wrong with Crutchfield with the best products and services look no further than here!

I have to say this is the best amp I have ever had running my main speakers. I have this amp running my Infinity 693.5i kappas in the back and my Infinity perfect components in the front. The sounds is unbelievable and the amp takes the power like a champ. Some of the reviews I have read say that this amp does not work well with Infinity perfect components but I have not had any problem. If you want loud, crisp, clear sound then this amp is for you. This amp kills the Alpine MRV-F345 and it is cheaper.

This amp is absolutley amazing. I have had mtx and alpine amps and they dont even amount to the quality of this amp. Power is no problem for it, not to mention it is incredibly clear. I tell everyone i know to buy this amp and if your an audiophile this amp is for you.
