Our Product Research Team
At Crutchfield, you'll get detailed, accurate information that's hard to find elsewhere.
That's because we have our own in-house Product Research team — they open the box,
verify contents, check the owner's manual, and record dimensions, features and specs.
We stay on top of new products and technologies to help people make informed choices.
Inputs and Outputs Notes
Driver: The PSW404 uses a
10" long-throw polymer composite cone driver for deep, smooth
response and low distortion. For improved durability, the woofer uses a hi-roll foam
Video Shielded: The subwoofer
is magnetically shielded to allow safe placement next to TVs and video monitors.
Amplifier: The subwoofer is
powered by a high-current amplifier producing 200 watts RMS/375 watts dynamic
PSW404's solid MDF enclosure (including a one inch thick front baffle)
suppresses enclosure panel resonance for distortion-free, accurate response.
Venting: The PSW404
features a wide, long, slot-load vent (approximately 10-1/2" x 1") to
dramatically reduce turbulence, noise and distortion and significantly improve
3-Way Power Switch: The
subwoofer has a 3-way power switch on the rear panel. You can select
"Auto", which turns the unit on automatically when an input signal is
received and off a few minutes after the signal stops; "On"
which keeps the unit on until it is switched off, and "Off" which
turns the unit completely off (instead of placing it in a standby mode). The LED
power indicator glows green when the unit is on and red when the unit is off.
Control: The PSW404 has
a rotary volume control to adjust the volume of the subwoofer relative to the
other speakers in the system.
The subwoofer's phase
switch allows you to select normal or reverse. If the bass sounds muddy or
unclear, toggling the phase control can sometimes strengthen the bass
Filter: The PSW404 offers a continuously variable low-pass filter, adjustable from
60-125Hz with a 24dB/octave slope. Note:
When the subwoofer is connected to a receiver through the LFE input, the low-pass filter of the subwoofer is bypassed. The filter
built into the receiver is relied upon to filter the subwoofer output
and Outputs Notes
(Unfiltered) Input: The PSW404
has a gold-plated mono RCA LFE (Low Frequency Effects) input. This input should
be used when connecting to a receiver with a filtered subwoofer output, such as
those found on most home theater receivers (check
the receiver's owner's manual). The LFE input bypasses the subwoofer's built-in
low pass crossover. Note: If the receiver's subwoofer output is
unfiltered, you should use either the left or right Line Input of the subwoofer.
The subwoofer has gold plated left and
right RCA Line
Level inputs. These inputs are for use with
electronics featuring unfiltered "Pre Out" jacks (Example: a separate
pre-amp processor with a separate amplifier). It may require "Y
adapters" to connect the left and right outputs of the pre-amp processor to
both the subwoofer and the power amplifier.
Level Input/Output: The
subwoofer has 5-way binding post connections for front speaker level input and output.
The subwoofer's low-pass filter takes the low frequencies (based on the setting
of the filter) and passes a full-range signal to out to the speakers. This is
the recommended method of connecting the subwoofer with a Polk Audio RM-series
Home Theater speaker package and other "satellite" speaker systems.
Response: The overall frequency response for the subwoofer is
-3 dB frequency response is 32-160Hz.
The PSW404 weighs 46 pounds.
Amplifier: The warranty on the
amplifier is 3 years parts and labor.
Driver: The warranty on the
driver is 5 years parts and labor.
