The dash opening this kit is made for is a different shape and size than typical aftermarket car stereo receivers. The dash kit covers the "gaps" and the mounting brackets secure your new receiver in the dash. The kit will extend out from the dash by 1" in order to provide additional mounting depth.

Note: If you are installing a DIN-style receiver, you'll need to convert the 2-shaft face plate to accept your radio by cutting and removing the plastic shaft supports.

The kit includes:

  • brackets, to mount the kit into the dash
  • trim ring, to cover gaps between your new receiver and the dash opening
  • Crutchfield's 30-Day Total Satisfaction Guarantee

I was not impressed with the install kit. It does not bring the Kenwood out far enough. I had to bend back a section of metal in my dash so that the unit would sit back far enough so that I could re-install the dash trim piece and it still doesn't sit right. I can see a bit of the metal trim of the Kenwood's sleeve through the bezel on the top left hand side. I would have paid more for something that fit better.
Pros:
Inexpensive and functional
Cons:
Not a good fit for the car, a 2000 Chevy Malibu, Plain Jane V-6 no power anything.

First I have to say how great the customer service was when ordering. I went to the web site and picked out my radio, but knew I needed some sort of in-dash kit to fill in the space the original radio took up. While I was on-line I called the 800 number and got a sales associate, Butler. He was indispensable. He listened to me and then used the power of his web tools to push web pages to me so I could see the parts that I needed. Then he put them all in the cart. All I had to do is fill in the shipping and payment info and I was done!!! Best experience I've ever had with on-line shopping.

As far as the part itself, the instructions were easy, complete and simple to follow. It was a perfect fit for my 1996 Chevrolet Lumina.

quality parts, easy installation instructions, great customer service if you need it.

Crutchfield's installation gear is absolutely indispensable when putting new sound equipment into your vehicle. The exact match sleeves and brackets and what-all turn a miserable job into something almost enjoyable. I've installed several receivers in different vehicles now using Crutchfield's dedicated equipment and master sheets and I can tell you they're great! I'm an old-timer from the days of drill, cut, gerry-rig and cuss and there's no denying how much Crutchfield's ready-made installation kits work perfectly.

Exact match brackets for the receiver and specific vehicle make for a flawless swap-out of old gear for new.

Easy to use and decent looking when installed. I wish that Chevy had not
installed short radios in their vehicles so that aftermarket systems had room to
install flush but this adapter works well and looks ok when its in place. I like
that it has a shelf built in to support the radio behind the dash. Good job!
