An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons.     Features

    Overview: The iSimple Interface allows you to control an iPod directly from your factory radio in select vehicles. The iSimple delivers CD quality sound directly into the factory system via the CD changer port and eliminates the use of RF modulators. The factory radio enables track selection and fast forward/rewind just like using a CD changer. In addition, the iSimple allows you to keep full control of the iPod from the click wheel. The iSimple also keeps the batteries in the iPod charged. If the OEM CD changer is present, you will have to disconnect it to install the iSimple adapter.

    Vehicle Compatibility: The supplied harnesses are compatible with select GM vehicles, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Saturn.

    Note: Please use the Crutchfield Car Selector to verify compatibility with your vehicle.

    Vehicle Specific Harnesses: Depending on your vehicle, you will need one of the following harnesses:

    • PXHGM1: One end of the harness connects to the iSimple Interface and one end connects to the factory system. On the interface end, the cable has a translucent rectangular 22-pin (6 pins present) female connector that plugs into the iSimple Interface. On the opposite end, the cable has an 12" jumper section that interfaces with the factory system. The jumper section has a black rectangular 9-pin female connector on one end and a white rectangular 9-pin male connector on the other end.
    • PXHGM2: One end of the harness connects to the iSimple Interface and one end connects to the factory system. On the interface end, the cable has a translucent rectangular 22-pin (7 pins present) female connector that plugs into the iSimple Interface. On the opposite end, the cable has a white rectangular 21-pin (7 pins present) male connector that interfaces with the factory system.
    • PXHGM3: One end of the harness connects to the iSimple Interface and one end connects to the factory system. On the interface end, the cable has a translucent rectangular 22-pin (6 pins present) female connector that plugs into the iSimple Interface, and 8" constant power and ground leads. On the opposite end, the cable has a 7" jumper section that interfaces with the factory system. The jumper section has a black rectangular 12-pin (10 pins present) female connector on one end and a gray rectangular 12-pin (10 pins present) male connector on the other end.

    iPod/iPhone Compatibility: The iSimple Interface is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features when connected to a compatible GM factory radio as of October 2011:

    Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the factory radio and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to revert to the older software version or wait until an newer software update is available.

    Radio Display During iPod Operation: The iSimple Interface does not send any information from the iPod to the radio. This means that the disc and track numbers shown on the display will not reflect the song number on the iPod due to the complex nature of the music library.

    Steering Wheel Controls: If your vehicle's steering wheel controls have the ability to select track and control the forward and rewind functions of your factory CD changer, then they will also control these same functions on the iPod.

    Programming the iSimple: The interface has eight dip switches on the side. Different vehicles require different switch configurations. A chart on Peripheral's web site shows the correct harness and dip switch configuration for your vehicle.

    Note: The dip switches must be set before the interface is plugged into the vehicle.

    Installation Location: Most installations will require you to remove the factory radio in order to plug in the vehicle specific harness. Some vehicles may require you to connect the interface to a factory pre-run CD changer cable. The location of these CD changer cables will vary by vehicle. Some common locations of these cables are in the trunk, behind the glove box, and in or under a center console.

    iPod adapter for Factory Radio

    Ordered this adapter to hook my iPod to my factory radio. I had used an RF adapter previously, but that wouldn't work in the city due to the large number of radio stations that would overpower the adapter signal. I used a cassette adapter for a while but eventually it started adding distortion and noise to the signal, I guessing due to magnetizing the tape heads. This product was fairly simple to install (clear instructions included). Had all the needed wiring harnesses. This was supposedly going to disable my cassette player, but it still worked. The radio had an imput for a CD changer in addition to the built in single disk player in the head unit and that is the one taken by the adapter.

    Sound quality is great,. I even get some limited info on the radio display (problem is radio, not adapter) and can control basic functions from the radio. The cord to plug in the iPod is plenty long to allow lots of flexibility of where you want to place and connect your iPod. I have a small compartment under the cassette player at the bottom of the center console that has a door that lets me close it. I can put my iPod in there and have additional length of cord to allow me to easily navigate on my iPod but still see the road.

    Would be a nice bonus if the cord had a built-in mic that would allow you to connect your iPhone and use it to do hands-free calls. Who knows. Haven't tried it with my iPhone.

    Easity install. Great Sound. Retain full functionality of the radio, cassette and CD. Charges iPod.

    Installation is a snap once you realize that the instructions are not particularly specific. Its pretty simple to pop of the dash trim, three screws and the radio comes out. Snap in the adapter harness, selected the dip switches per the manual, hook up a ground and constant 12volt source that thats it. The ground and constant 12volt were easy to find on my vehicle, '04 Chevrolet Silverado, the cigarette lighter is right below the radio/climate controls so it was no big deal to tap in there. I extended the ground/constant wires about 1ft to make things easy. Working in the dash of the truck is a bit difficult but if you take your time its not bad.

    The unit was easy to install and to operate. It works just like the overview says, with one exception. I purchased the "adapter cable" to charge my Ipod. The "adapter cable" is the exact same one that came in the box with the unit. It has the same part numbers and is identical, but cost me an extra $25.99. The cable that came with the unit charged my Ipod just fine, so don't waste your $$$. It took me about 30 minutes to install in my 2007 GMC Classic. On the manufactures web site and the install manual it says that you will not retain your XM or CD changer. both of mine work just fine, and the Ipod works off the CD/AUX button. There is no display on the factory radio, which I though there would be, but as I look over the web site and the install manual they neither one say that, so my bad. The steeringwheel controls do operate the Ipod as far as changing songs and volume. So far I like the product.

    Cons:
    You don't need to waste your $ on the "adapter cable" for a cable that is included in the kit!

    Could be a lot better

    Instructions are very detailed and easy to follow and the installing it in my 2004 Aztek factory stereo went smoothly. I have an iPhone 3GS and it did charge it. However there are two issues with it. First and this may not be the fault of PAC is the iPhone prompts that the dock is not compatible and you have to press "Dismiss" every time you plug in. Second and more of an issue was, at least on my Aztek OEM stereo, every time I started the car it would default to radio instead of the multi-disk CD changer which this adapter uses to get the iPhone audio into the stereo. This is really a major issue for me. I contacted support and there was no way to avoid this behavior. Before installing this one I un-installed an old RCA input adapter which used the AUX in and it works as expected. I'm returning this and ordering a replacement head unit for my car. Time to move on and upgrade my OEM stereo.

    Great product. Easy Install. I installed for an IPOD in 2005 Chevy 2500 Duramax. The only issue i had was when testing the wires for live wires, i blew a fuse. When i called tech support they knew right away what the problem was. SO great Tech Support.

    Product works well in a C5 Corvette. Not giving it 5 stars because there is some lag in controlling the iPod thru the factory deck and sometimes the commands from the factory deck are not recognized by the iPod. Product works best when the iPod is controlled manually and not by the factory deck. Overall the product works well and it charges the iPod, which is a plus.

    Didn't work well for me

    I purchased this adaptor about 1 year ago - it worked OK - but I noticed
    some problems with the audio coming from my factory installed CD player -
    lots of crackling and distortion.

    The way this installs is to interrupt where the CD player plugs in. In other
    words - the CD player now plugs into this ipod adaptor - and the ipod
    adaptor plugs in where the CD plug was.

    I decided to live with it because I was much more apt to be listening to
    the ipod than a CD. This adaptor would allow you to advance between
    ipod songs from the factory stereo - but when you did this - there was an
    unpleasant scratching noise associated with pushing the "next" button.
    Again - I chose to live with it.

    Anyway - about 2 week ago - I was listening to the ipod in my car and it
    started to make a horrible screaching noise. As it turned out - the ipod had
    been damaged and would no longer play anything normally - whether
    plugged into this audio adaptor or not. Had to send the ipod off to Apple
    and pay around $150 for repair. I have no idea if the adaptor caused this
    issue - but to be safe I removed it last night and now I'm back to square 1 -
    with no more ipod in the car.

    Generally, I would give this product a thumbs down.

    Have a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, it took me longer to get the dash apart and get the radio out than to plug the Peripheral iPod® adapter in. The instructions provided for disassembly of the dash were exact to my project. Made it very nice. I had to tie into a power source and instead of taping into the radio harness, I found it just as easy to access the wiring from the accessories power adapter and cigarette lighter for my source. Whole project start to finish less than 45 minutes. Works great and has better sound quality than the plug in fm adapters I tried previously. Glad I made this purchase.

    2004 Tahoe

    Easy to install. Customer service rocks! The other reviews here claim you
    lose your XM and CD changer but that was not the case with mine. As I flip
    through my sources on the steering wheel, it was like a new source was
    created between the CD source and FM1. I do not like the fact that the
    head unit won't display the songs and for some reason when I seek
    backwards for a prior song it pauses the Ipod (Classic) but everything else
    works fine. I found a clip for the vent that holds the Ipod to solve the lack
    of head unit display and I am puzzled on the pausing when you seek
    backwards but overall I am very pleased with this product for the price. I
    will agree that flipping the 6 switch does help the sound. Easy to splice in
    the ground and 12v wires into the charger socket just below the heater
    controls, jsut be prepared to add wire because the yellow and black wires
    out of the peripheral are entirely too short.

    This is a fairly straight forward item to install Simply pull your factory radio,
    connect this to your Xm/or CD changer port, and if you want it to charge
    splice it into your constant 12v wire. Pretty easy.

    Obviously if you are plugging it into the back of your stereo into one of the
    ports, than you will NOT be able to use that port for anything else. That is
    also pretty straight forward. My radio had an optional cd changer that was
    not being used, so I was able to use that port and not lose any of my
    functions at all. It charges. Its easy to hook up.

    And an added note. Even though the DIP settings say to leave #6 off. I
    recommend turning it on. It is sort of an "internal boost" for the sound. If
    you turn it on the sound from the interface will be much louder. Some
    people dont mind having to crank the radio up to hear, but I prefer to not
    have to adjust the volume when i switch between cd/fm/ipod.

    After much research this interface seemed like the one to buy. I was really looking forward to using this in my 2001 GMC Sierra. I got it and installed it to find that it worked perfectly. For a day. Now I cannot control my iPod from the factory head unit, and I am getting a high pitched hiss whenever I listen to the iPod. The problem is in the connection between the iPod and interface, but I can't tell which is the problem. Overall it works good as long as you don't mind controlling the music with your iPod. A cassette adapter is way cheaper and the sound quality is equal. Maybe this would work better with a different vehicle...
    To sum up:
    easy to install
    doesn't do what it claims (could be vehicle specific)
    For the money, you could have a decent down payment on a nice aftermarket head unit with iPod controls built in. If you can install this interface, you certainly could install a new head unit.

    I ordered this unit after speaking with someone in sales here at Crutchfield. I asked several questions wanting to make sure this would work with all my factory items, (dvd, XM and changer). I got it and installed it. It worked well and was easy to install. Problem was I lost completly my XM1 XM2 as well as my CD changer. Not worth it in my eyes. So I took it back out, put everything back factory and shipped this back in for a refund.

    Couldn't decide between Periferal or USA Spec ipod interface as a Xmas gift for my son. He has a 2001 Camaro, with Monsoon sound system. Have no regrets for choosing Periferal! Delivery was super fast! Only issue was trying to find the dip switch settings on periferal.com as instructions said. After finally finding the settings, my car wasn't listed.
    CALLED CRUTCHFIELD, AND I HAD MY SETTINGS IN LESS THAN 2 MINUTES!!

    Installation was a breeze. 1st gen ipod Touch and a regular ipod work gr at. Didn't have to download latest firmware for the touch, I guess we had the latest already. Sound is awesome. Controls on the radio work the ipod as advertised. Plenty of room behind radio in the Camaro to mount the unit and stuff excess wires. I used automotive double stick tape to mount the unit.

    Great sound

    I installed this in my wife's 2004 Trailblazer. The Crutchfield instructions for taking apart the vehicle are wonderful. Step by step with good illustrations made it go easy. It took a little while for the stereo to recognize the peripheral so I'd recommend waiting for a while before thinking something is wrong with it. After several times of turning the stereo on and off it finally just started working and has worked great ever since. The sound is just as good as the CD's and when you shut the ignition off, it autmotically shuts the iPod off. I'm very happy with the purchase.
