    Features

    Product Overview: The EA1251B CeNET iPod Interface allows you to plug in and control your iPod portable music player through your CeNET-compatible Clarion receiver. The adapter allows audio playback, control and charging of your compatible iPod.

    Compatibility: The EA1251B is compatible with most 2006 and older CeNET-compatible Clarion receivers and Multimedia units. It will work with the following iPod models:

    • iPod 3rd Generation
    • iPod 4th Generation
    • iPod photo
    • iPod mini (1st/2nd generation)
    • iPod nano (1st/2nd generation)
    • iPod video (5th generation)
    • iPod classic (80/120/160GB)
    • iPhone

    Note: This interface does not support the iPod touch (1st/2nd generation), iPod nano (3rd/4th generation), or iPhone 3G. This interface does not work with the RCB-138 C-Bus conversion adapter.

    Adding CD Changer: The EA1251B interface does not have a CD changer pass through connection. If you have the interface connected and want to add a CD changer, you will need the CCA-519 Y-adapter for Multi-changer connection (item #020CCA519).

    Battery Charging: As soon as the iPod is connected to the EA1251B (with the ignition key in the On or Accessory position), the iPod is switched on and the battery starts charging.

    iPod Control: The iPod's buttons are disabled and the display is locked as soon as the unit is connected to the interface. All operations of the iPod are controlled by the head unit. Some iPod operations and features will be unavailable. During playback, the main unit will display the song numbers in sequence, however, only a maximum of two digits are displayed. If there are more than 99 songs on the iPod, only the last two digits are displayed.

    Playlists: The EA1251B simulates the iPod as a 6-disc changer. Therefore, a maximum of five acceptable playlists will be indicated as a "disc". Disc 1 is assigned for All Songs Play mode. Discs 2-6 are assigned for 5 acceptable playlists. (To make a playlist acceptable, you must assign the playlists names as "clarion1", "clarion2", "clarion3", etc.) You can search for up to about 400 playlists.

    Title Display: Some head unit models with the CD Text function have the capability to show ID3 tag information from the iPod. On these models, the artist name is shown as Artist Title, the song name as Track Title, and the album name as Disc Title.

    Connections: The EA1251B interface has two connections: one for the iPod and one for the head unit. The connecting cables to each are included with the interface. The iPod connection cable has the iPod Dock Connector on one end and a right-angled round 10-pin DIN connector on the other. The CeNET cable has the same 13-pin square CeNET connector on both ends, one straight and one right angle plug.

    Mounting: The interface should be mounted in the dash area. It can be attached with the supplied self-adhesive Velcro strips, or with the supplied self-tapping screws.

    Not worth the Effort

    Well this was a good idea that just does not work well. The control just does not work well or consistent with my Clarion head unit. it does not allow the selection of certain songs or artists from the Ipod and forces you to play them all or only lets you fast forward to the next song...in order only. Sometimes it allow you to skip to the next tracks...most of the times no. thank goodness my clarion head unit also takes a SD card and I do't have to use this control unit.

    i agree with most of the other reviews. it does allow your ipod to act as a "changer" but you have to program calrion1-6 as the playlist in itunes to access your ipod songs from your head unit.

    it does randomly allow you (although not recently!!!)to access full functionality through your head until, but only when your ipod has been connected and is fully charged. at least that's what i observed numerous times.

    they NEED to fix this problem, otherwise use the aux port on your head unit.

    Good idea, incomplete functionality

    One of the other reviewers here mentioned that they have full funtionality with their ipod and can browse songs most say they cannot. Well I can do both. (sometimes)
    The product manual actually states that the ipod buttons are disabled once it is plugged into the EA1251 and the display should just say clarion and you CANNOT navigate through folders with your ipod. My unit works this way 80% of the time so I am stuck putting my stereo on random to try and find the artist I want to listen to. However, the other 20% of the time it will actually let me browse on my ipod and select songs with full functionality.
    It is clear though this is not the way the unit was designed to function for some dumb reason. Your lucky if it does.
    I say wait for the next model it will hopefully have full functionality. In the mean time your probably better off just plugging in through your auxilary port where you have full functionality but no on deck display.
    On the plus side sound quality is excellent and everything can be installed so that it is completely out of sight which is nice.

    The reviews I have seen are WRONG. I believed that the IPOD controls go dead once the IPOD is connected to the Clarion (in my case, the hx-d10) car stereo. THEY DO NOT!

    You can navigate your IPOD just as though headphones are plugged in! This product is amazing. Get this ASAP!

    With iPod being the number one selling MP3 player on the market, I can understand why Clarion wanted to rush an iPod interface to the car audio enthusiasts as soon as possible; however, they should have seriously put some more time into the development of this product as it turned out less than satisfactory.

    The interface DOES allow you to charge/power your iPod while in use, change tracks in order/random within 6 specially configured playlists, and provides acceptable sound quality using the line-out feature of the iPod. What it doesn't do is allow any REAL control of the signature benefits of an iPod MP3 player. For example, you can not search for song titles, artists, or albums, nor can you play any playlist not configured at clarion1-6. The other brand name aftermarket interfaces allow you to do all or most of those features, so in my opinion, this is a poor product offering from a brand that should have known better. Not to mention the fact that the interface automatically puts your headunti into disc/repeat mode every time you switch to the iPod source!

    Seriously think hard about just using the aux-inputs on your Clarion deck (if available) and controlling from the iPod directly, before purchasing this product. Bad Clarion, Bad!

    Sounds great, but lacking in functionality

    I installed this on my 7 year old Clarion head unit, and was pleased to find that there was no compatability problems at all with having an older model. The sound is exceptional (way better than the static-filled fm tuner i was using for my iPod before). The only downfall of the unit is that you lose all control of the iPod, and can't go to one specific song. You are forced to go through each playlist one song at a time, but this is an ok trade-off for the sound quality. This is a great way to use your iPod in the car.

    Doesn't work well with marine radios

    I installed this on my Clarion XMD3 head unit. I was dissapointed to learn that it will NOT display ID3 tags. I spoke with a Clarion CSR who said that the marine units were not really meant to interface with it (including the 2005 models). It does sound good, though.

    I really like the sound quality it has but after i had it istalled i was dissapointed to find out that i could not pick an artist or a certain song off of my ipod. Once you plug your ipod into the cord you cannot control the ipod whatsoever and that is the only downfall of this product.
