Video: Canon Powershot SX50 HS Camera
That’s right. 50X optical zoom. From a point-and-shoot digital camera. Canon has raised the bar, thrown down the gauntlet and changed the game with the PowerShot SX50 HS, the world’s first compact digital camera to hit the big 5-0. Shoot in auto or manual modes, record in JPEG or RAW formats, frame shots using the LCD display or the electronic viewfinder, shoot in bright sunlight or dimly lit rooms — with so many options and 50X zoom, the SX50 is the only camera you’ll need at the game, the Grand Canyon or Grandma’s house.
I have the Canon SX50 HS camera here, and this is a high-zoom model, and a unique one at that in that it has a 50X zoom lens built in. So you go from 24mm wide all the way out to 1200mm all the way zoomed in. Now there's a saying in photography that says if your pictures are boring, you're not close enough. Well, with the SX50 you're never gonna have that problem.
It is so amazing how close you can get to things that are far away. It gets from wide to all the way in tight very quickly — locks focus amazingly fast for a camera like this. I was blown away by how fast it can focus on something. It's got really good Canon image stabilization built in, so you can shoot it at 1200mm hand-held — which sounds crazy, but it really can be done.
So this type of camera, you'll notice, is shaped and looks a lot like an SLR camera. Of course, the big difference is convenience. You've got an amazing zoom range in this camera. There's no other camera like it at this point in time, and if you had an SLR camera and wanted to get a 1200mm lens it would be 30 pounds and probably a few feet long.
I was out taking pictures of the moon one night, and with this camera you're right there. You can see craters on the moon and it's just amazing how much reach it has. It's quite a camera if you're shooting pictures of wildlife or kids playing sports, or any time where you're up in the stands or something and can't get right down next to the action. This is the camera for you.
