Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the JVC KD-X50BT

by Zak Billmeier

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

your description goes here

Built-in Bluetooth® gives you lots of options
You may know that Bluetooth lets you talk hands-free in your car, but JVC's KD-X50BT digital media receiver also allows you to receive text message notifications and stream music, depending on your phone's features. Even better, all you iPhone®, Android™ and Blackberry™ users can now control your favorite PANDORA® Internet Radio stations right from this stereo's front panel.

Special Android™ features
Android™ and Blackberry™ users can control PANDORA® right from the stereo through the Bluetooth connection — no wires needed. And JVC's Android app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control the action using finger swipes and gestures — for example, make an upside-down "V" to change the source. So pop your Android phone in a mount, and you can reach down and skip a track without taking your eyes off the road.

Keep two phones connected
The KD-X50BT's built-in Bluetooth lets you pair two phones at once — no need to choose between your personal and business phones. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance if your call is coming from home or the office. To answer a call, just tap the volume knob.

Do more with your USB connection
JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep a smartphone charged while it's performing many battery-draining tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to your phone's internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Separated Variable Color display
The KD-X50BT looks pretty cool, too. Its display lets you set colors for your controls independent from those on the screen — so create your own custom color scheme, match your dash lighting perfectly, or just let it cycle through over 30,000 hues for an ever-changing look.

Two USB slots for maximum convenience
JVC has obviously given some thought to usability, giving you front and rear USB inputs for connecting gear. The included Bluetooth adapter slides into one slot, so you'll still have one free. But if you don't need the Bluetooth, your options open up. For instance, if you're an iPhone user, you can run a USB cable from the receiver's rear input into your glovebox or a console, then connect your iPhone and stow it safely away. You still have the front USB slot for connecting other devices on the fly or playing tunes you've loaded on a USB thumb drive. Maybe you've got other ways to use the two inputs, but now it's your choice.

Build a system
If you've got plans to build a complete car audio system, the KD-X50BT is a great place to start. You'll appreciate the two sets of preamp outputs when it's time to add amps and subs — switch the rear outputs over to subwoofer mode and you'll be able to tweak your bass right from your dash. You'll also get a handy auxiliary input for hooking up more gear, like a Dock & Play satellite radio.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

      Digital Media Receiver

Overview: The JVC KD-X50BT is a digital media receiver which supports a variety of audio sources such as the Apple iPod and iPhone, USB memory devices loaded with MP3/WMA music, and almost any portable audio player via the unit's front-panel aux input. The JVC digital media receiver also offers a built-in AM/FM tuner and supports Pandora Internet Radio (via iPhone, Android, or BlackBerry) so you can listen to your favorite radio stations and online music. In addition, the JVC KD-X50BT supports Bluetooth audio streaming and Bluetooth hands-free communication, with included BT adapter. The KD-X50BT comes with an IR wireless remote control, supports JVC Smart Remote app (for Android), and is factory steering wheel remote control compatible (via optional adapter, sold separately).

Note: The JVC KD-X50BT digital media receiver does not feature a CD mechanism and does not support CD-changer controls.

      Built-in Bluetooth

USB Bluetooth Adapter: The JVC KD-X50BT comes supplied with a USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) which is pre-installed into the head unit's rear-panel USB input, making the KD-X50BT Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR certified. The KD-X50BT supports Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming.

Note: The USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) must remain plugged into the rear-panel USB port, or can also be installed in the head unit's front-panel USB port.

Bluetooth Technology: Bluetooth is a two-way wireless communication system allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, as well as wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth enabled portable music player using the JVC in-dash multimedia receiver. Bluetooth wireless technology operates on a 2.4GHZ frequency band within a range of approximately 10 meters (about 33 feet).

Bluetooth Profiles: The JVC KD-X50BT supports the following Bluetooth profiles:

      • HFP 1.5 (Hands-Free Profile): Hands-free communication with your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone in the vehicle (incoming/outgoing calls supported).
      • OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile): Phonebook transfer from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to the head unit.
      • PBAP 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile): Phonebook access from your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone to the head unit.
      • A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile): Music streaming from your Bluetooth enabled phone or audio player to the head unit.
      • AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile): Basic music playback control of your Bluetooth enabled phone or audio player from the head unit.

Pairing: Your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or digital audio player must be paired with KD-X50BT before hands-free & wireless operation. You can register up to five Bluetooth enabled devices with the JVC head unit. You can keep two phones connected at all times (only one can be used during a call).

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC head unit. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KD-X50BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket) featuring adjustable gain, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers (front or all).

External Microphone: The JVC KD-X50BT includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 12' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.485" (depth).

Note: This unit does not offer an integrated front-panel microphone.

Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker, the head unit's display will flash (Ring Color), and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the KD-X50BT's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call. You can adjust the head unit's ring color from the unit's 29 preset colors or 30,000 custom colors.

Dialing A Number: Using the KD-X50BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

      • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
      • Speed Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KD-X50BT. If you phonebook contains a lot of contact numbers, you fast search (+/-10, 100, or 1000) through the phonebook by using the unit's control dial. You can also do an A-Z search to scroll the downloaded phonebook. Up to 5,000 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long.
      • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).

Private/Hands-Free Mode: During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KD-X50BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KD-X50BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, and Fast Forward/Rewind. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Song and Album title. The KD-X50BT also supports audio streaming of music apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Last.fm, Rhapsody, & Slacker) , but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

      USB/Aux Inputs

Dual USB Ports: The JVC Arsenal KD-X50BT features a front-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (behind a sliding cover) and a rear-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (attached to a 45" pigtail) for connection of USB mass-storage class devices. The USB ports enable audio playback and control of MP3, WMA, & WAV audio files stored on portable USB mass-storage class devices. Both of the USB terminals can be connected to USB devices at the same time. You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

Note: The rear-panel USB port comes with the KS-UBT1 Bluetooth adapter installed. The this Bluetooth adapter must remain installed for Bluetooth functionality. It can be removed to allow connection of a second USB (MSC) device.

Drive Change Mode will let you switch between your Android or BlackBerry smartphone's internal and external memory (such as microSD Card), so you can listen to music stored on either memory. You'll continue to be able control basic playback functions; such as folder/file search, play/pause, and skip next/previous; regardless of memory type.

Front-Panel Auxiliary Input: A front-panel stereo minijack is provided to allow the connection of a portable audio source. Simply connect your portable digital music player to the unit's front-panel auxiliary input, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system. The unit's front-panel auxiliary input can be turned On or Off.

      iPod/iPhone Control

iPod/iPhone Direct: The JVC KD-X50BT's front-panel or rear-panel USB port can acts as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the USB/iPod cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. An additional iPod cable is available (469USBPOD, sold separately) so you can leave one at home and one in the car. If you have an iPod nano (7th gen), iPod touch (5th gen), or iPhone 5; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit. Using either cable allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the JVC in-dash head unit.

iPod DAC Bypass: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 80dB. The JVC head unit supports audio playback of music, podcasts, audiobooks, and music apps stored on your iPod or iPhone.

The KD-X50BT also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone.
      • iPod: You can choose to navigate your iPod or iPhone's stored music from its clickwheel or touchscreen, like you are accustomed to during normal usage.
      • External (App Mode): External Mode lets you enjoy audio content from your downloaded music Apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Last.fm, Rhapsody, & Slacker) and driver assistant Apps (such as Trapster) streamed to your Apple iPhone, through the JVC KD-X50BT. You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to navigate and view your apps; the head unit will only display the clock and "EXT Mode".

Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded application will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

iPod Display: The KD-X50BT will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information, when in Head Unit and iPod mode (not in External mode), or listening to Pandora Internet Radio. The head unit can display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label.

iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-X50BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-X50BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-X50BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-X50BT are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
      • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-X50BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Pro EQ: The KD-X50BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

      Pro EQ
      Frequency Level Q
      Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
      Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
      Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 khz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed

Source Link EQ: This feature allows you to store Pro EQ bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (Bluetooth, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, and Pandora).

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

2.5V/4CH Preamp Output: The KD-X50BT is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front, Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading.

Subwoofer Controls: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between 0 to 8 (separate from the main volume level). You can also adjust the low-pass filter and activate a high-pass filter.

      • Low-Pass Filter: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter at 55Hz, 85Hz, or 120Hz.
      • High-Pass Filter: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can also activate a high-pass filter (fixed at low-pass filter frequency) for the unit's front & rear channels (speaker- or preamp-level), so low frequency signals are cut off from your system's front & rear speakers.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

      AM/FM Tuner

AM/FM Tuner: The JVC KD-X50BT features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning.

RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.

Preset Tuning: You can store a total of 18 FM stations presets and 6 AM station presets. The radio allows you to set your AM/FM stations manually or automatically.

Radio Timer: You can tune into a preset station at a specific time regardless of the head unit's current source. You can activate the Radio Timer once, daily, or turn it completely off.

IF Filter: You can also switch the tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

Mono: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

      Display Features

Variable Color LCD & Key Illumination: The JVC KD-X50BT features 29 color presets for the LCD and button illumination. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color preset or custom color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons. You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination, or use a separate color for each one. You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD and button illumination.

Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

Mounting Angle: For proper operation, you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

      Bang for buck

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is a bargain. Many features for the price. The interface is consistent, but a little tedious to use - lots of button pushing. Once it's set up it works well. BT audio works with my Android phone and displays tags properly. Haven't tested phone calls much yet, but it's nice to have the capability. I'm wondering what happens when I disconnect the battery for car repairs. Will I have to set up every option again? It would be nice to be able to back up the radio settings to a USB flash drive or something.
      Pros:
Bluetooth phone, bluetooth audio, pandora, custom illumination colors let you match the radio to your car's instrumentation
      Cons:
      Buried features

Installation was a breeze. Setting up bluetooth was pretty easy. Then entire ui is clunky though. Won't let you skip more than 5 songs in Pandora even with a plus subscription.

Awesome little stereo. Took a while to figure out programming. Once I figured everything out and had it set up it was cool! Bluetooth works flawless with my iPhone 5. If you're done using CDs and regularly use your iPhone/ iPod, buy this! You won't be disappointed.

      Simply Amazing

I'm pretty versed with electronics and such, so I had a really easy time navigating the menus. However, if you're keen with small interfaces, you might have a hard time.

The menu system is very simple; hit menu and you get the options as such:

      Menu - Various Options \ Audio Options \ Loudness// Equalizer// \ Loudness On/Off

The volume knob acts as a select switch when pressed and scroll wheel when turned in menus.

The Blutooth feature is simply brilliant; you connect your device once and it automatically connects once you turn the car on (as long as you have Blutooth still enabled) Saving FM stations to hot keys are tricky. Since there aren't any numbered buttons, you have to scroll through a menu. There are 2 buttons all the way to the left of the unit; up and down. You press up or down to bring up the menu then you scroll through the stations. To save stations, you find your favorite one, hold down the volume knob and then you can select from #01-16 or whatever the max is. I have mine in numeric order so it's #1 93.3; #2 94.1, etc.

If you're not willing to learn how to use your unit, you might as well stick with the factory radio, but if you have 15 minutes to fiddle around with it, this unit will make all of your needs a reality.
      Pros:
3500 colors to match interior; easy Blutooth connectivity; easy Auxiliary input; great equalizer presets
      Cons:
      No CD player, intricate interface

      Really good!

Wasn't crazy about the looks but wanted the features. Ounce it was in my dash it looks good. Colors and display are great. Not as bright as I would have expected but can be seen ok in direct sunlight. The Pro EQ is excellent! You can get it to dial in just about any sound you want. Each input ( AM, FM, Aux, USB front, USB rear.) has its own Pro EQ adjustment. I had The FM radio sounding great but the blue tooth ( Which I use in the front ) seemed dull. No problem. A little tweak to the Pro EQ and it was just as clear and lively as the FM tuner. Pairing my Iphone was easy. It syncs up as soon as I get in the car and calls sound very good. I plug my Iphone into the rear USB plug and it keeps the phone charged and plays my music. Pandora works very well but I can't figure out how to switch from Pandora to the stored music in my phone through the head unit. It automatically switches to Pandora when I plug into the USB. I have to unplug it again and kill Pandora and the turn on my music. I'm sure there is a way but I have not found it yet. Overall it's a really nice unit at a great price. Anyone know what the dancing squares on the upper right side are for?
      Pros:
Great sound. Pro EQ works very well. Lots of volume. Great display. Basic feature are easy to use while driving. Clock sets automatically.
      Cons:
Volume knob is too shallow. It just doesn't stick out far enough. When you try to adjust the volume its easy too push it and go to mute. Turning it is also a pain. It has no texture to hold on to. The screen also scratches easier than I would have expected. It's very glossy and just wiping dust off with my finger left some scuffs.I plan on trying a screen protector from my phone to cut the glare and cover the scratches. Switching from Pandora to stored music is a trick.

'02 Subaru Forester. Great HU for the money. Takes a leap to go all digital, but well worth it. Install was a snap with the provided harness and hardware from Crutchfield. From delivery to installed in 2 hours including soldering the harness up. Factory speakers are the weakest link now.

      Would have made another choice

Written By Dan F, Murrieta, CA on Tuesday, January 22, 2013

I purchased this unit mainly because it was on a great sale and it had some cool features. Note that this unit doesn't have a CD player. The bluetooth works pretty well. The sound quality is pretty average, but I don't have anything special for speakers. Once I change them out, I will add to this review. Now my gripes: I primarily listen to music via the USB port. 1st gripe - to use the bluetooth to function, you need to use one of the 2 USB ports for a USB bluetooth receiver dongle. How silly! That should have been built-in. What a horrible idea. My second gripe and the most annoying: it has intermittent memory - sometimes after I start up the car, it resumes the mp3 track that I am listening to, and sometimes it doesn't. It rarely remembers the "shuffle" setting and I have to set that every time I power the unit on. And almost half the time the unit doesn't detect the USB drive at all, which requires me to unplug and replug it back in. Bad design flaws make me give this unit no more than 2 stars. Another annoying factor: the controls are awkward and confusing. This unit needs more buttons. If I had to do it again, I would buy a different unit.
      Pros:
Plays from USB, has Bluetooth streaming, has an app for my android to control and view titles easier. Has many options for EQ. Sounds fairly decent. Reasonably priced.
      Cons:
Not able to read USB drive at times. Loses memory settings for music. Controls are confusing and awkward. Lack of a detachable face. Lack of a CD Player. Must use one of 2 USB ports for Bluetooth dongle. Missing buttons 1-6 for station programming and other functions.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 1995 Lincoln Town Car. Installation took about 2 hours do to the factory radio being in the trunk and the ant in the rear window. All wiring harness and installation hardware needed was provided. Was well pleased with everything that was provided for the installation. Radio works well and am still learning how to use it.
      Pros:
Color of displays are adjustable to match existing dash. Displays call letters and name of radio station if transmitted. Some stations also transmit song title and artist. Manual says it will display phone no. and name of caller from your phone. It works with my Nokia E71 phone but still need to set it to use my phone book info.
      Cons:
Takes time to learn all the controls as there are many functions and each control knob/button has several functions depending on which mode you are using. This not be a problem after I get use to the radio. Has only been installed about 1 week.

Nice Stereo for your daughters car...

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my daughters birthday to replace the factory stereo that the display went out on. Picked it mostly for its value and bluetooth features which worked well with her ipod and phone. Install was easy using the wire harness Crutchfield threw in, she was happy to have a "thumping system". However if you plan on using your factory AMP instead of the units amp you may hear some high frequency noise. I'm pretty sure this can be fixed using a couple of ground loop isolation rigs which I'm going to install next weekend.
      Pros:
      Coolness factor, bluetooth value.
      Cons:
Feed back noise from factory amp using per-amps outs on unit...

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I absolutely love the Bluetooth capability of the unit. Connecting your phone is easy and automatic after the initial connection. Still have factory speakers, so it's hard to say how great it can sound, but it did improve the overall quality of the sound.

The instructions were easy enough, but I took it to a professional to ensure nothing went awry ($40 well spent).

I love that Crutchfield includes the harness, and mount with the unit.

      -ZL
      Pros:
      Bluetooth ease
      Cons:
The demo mode is a bit ridiculous and not intuitive on how to remove (but that's easily solved with the instructions)

      Couldn't Be Happier

Written By BrewinBart, Eureka, CA on Tuesday, January 08, 2013
Installed in a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I wanted to replace the CD/Tape Deck in my 2007 Town and Country, I went to a local shop and was amazed at the markup of their receivers, plus install. I understand they have to make money, but they were a bit inflated. I had done installs on much older vehicles, but was nervous about doing it on such a new vehicle. I started looking around the site for a replacement CD player with Bluetooth, and came across the idea of just going with a DMR. After thinking about it for a bit, I decided I didn't really need a CD player. I started a chat with a sales rep and he helped me pick out the best unit for my needs. I was stuck between two and he recommended this unit, which by the way was the cheaper of the two I was looking at. Right then and there he sold me and i added the unit to my cart.....The unit came as advertised, but when I went to install it, the instructions were a bit confusing. A quick call to the tech support got me back on track and in less than two hours (I solder all my connections), the unit was in, working like a champ. I set up the phone connection and my wife says it sounds as good as the factory unit in my Toyota. I have only had it about 3 days and have not gotten through all the functions, but so far I couldn't be happier. With the install kit for the Town and Country, I recommend the kit that has small pocket below the stereo. Perfect spot to keep the phone.
      Pros:
Bluetooth connection with Android phone. Not just for use of the phone, but for playing music and playing Pandora. One of those things you can do without, but once you have it, very hard to go back to a cable.
      Cons:
The only con i can list so far, and this maybe operator error, but when I am playing the music on my phone, I lose the clock on the stereo. Kind of a bummer since this is the only clock in the vehicle.

this is fantastic reciver. has everything anyone wants. if your still in oldschool mode and use cd's this might not be for u. but if you are. GET WITH IT!. i am very pleased with this unit. however it could be a tad hard for someone who isnt technically inclined to figure out how to use. it could be complicated to use. but once you figure it out, its second nature. installed it on a 2010 ford ranger.
      Pros:
      totally happy with it
      Cons:
could be a tad complicated to use

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit really does offer plenty for the price. Bluetooth calls come in clear and I like that it remembers the phone volume setting when it automatically switches from playing music to answering a call. I hear the folks on the other side of the call really well. They can hear me well enough, depending on how fast I'm going and the smoothness of the road. It really is more a matter of my car's sound proofing than the JVC unit's capability. I don't miss the CD functionality as I have put all my music in a tiny 16GB USB drive that plugs into the front face. It's practically invisible. The sound quality is as good or better than the radio that came with my Camry. The construction of the unit is pretty solid. I've only had it for a month so I hope it has a long life.

      JVE KD-X50BT Review

Written By JimC, Manchester, NH on Saturday, January 05, 2013
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought it to replace the stock double DIN unit in my 2003 VW Jetta GLI - CD changer was eating CDs and receiver was not that great. This JVC unit was relatively easy to install, fit perfectly into lower DIN hole of the dobule DIN space. Had to work a bit with the wire bundle in the back, but got it all out of the way and the unit snapped in nice and tight. Controls take a bit to get used to, but not that bad after a few days of playing around with the knobs and the owners manual. Handsfree bluetooth phone feature is nice - recognized my Blackberry right away. Incoming calls through the speakers are very clear. Outgoing calls on the receiving end sounded like I was in a cave. I engaged the noise cancelation and echo control feature on the JVC unit, but it did not help much. The mic is mounted on the steering column near the speedometer display aimed straight at my mouth, but the mic can pick up sound from all around. I found a foam microphone cover for the tip of the mic and wrapped the barrell of the mic with electrical tape. Now the mic is more directional and the sound on the receiving end of a call is much better. Love the USB slot on the front for music - wish this unit played .flac files, but .mp3 at 320 mps sounds good enough in a car with my old ears. Sound is excellent compared to the old system. Color set-up has so much variation it should be easy to get a color match to whata ever dash colors you have.
      Pros:
Nice price. Easy color set-up. Matches the blue/red of the Jetta perfectly. Sound is clean. USB front panel.
      Cons:
Getting used to no preset buttons. Can still scroll throught the presets, but it takes longer to get to the station - very minor beef.
