Overview: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 Powered Subwoofer is ideally
suited for use in a 5.1-channel home theater or stereo music system. The RPS
1000 features a 10" FCCM woofer, along with dual 8" FCCM passive radiators
inside a compact enclosure and is capable of deep bass and high-output. In
addition, the subwoofer features BassTrack, a proprietary Boston-designed
circuit that tracks the input signal to the subwoofer and prevents its amplifier
from being driven into audible distortion, so your bass stays clean and strong
at any listening level.

Multi-Composite 10" Woofer Cone: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 powered subwoofer incorporates a 10" front-firing
Fiber Ceramic Copolymer Material (FCCM) Woofer cone made from a composite of
fiber and ceramic materials impregnated in a proprietary copolymer. By combining
this multi-composite cone with Boston's Deep Channel Design (DCD), the woofer
produces a smooth response over the entire operating range. The result is
high-output bass response with minimal distortion.
Dual 8" FCCM Passive Radiators: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 features
dual 8" side-firing passive radiators for added efficiency and lower bass
response.
500-Watt Amplifier: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 features a built-in
500-watt (RMS)/1000-watt (Peak) amplifier.
Compact Cabinet: The Boston Acoustic powered subwoofer features an
elegant, scratch-resistant, high-gloss, black-lacquer finish compact cabinet.
The cabinet is internally reinforced and ultra-rigid to prevent resonance and
distortion.
BassTrac Circuitry: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 powered subwoofer
utilizes BassTrac circuitry for tight, distortion-free bass at all output
levels.
Automatic Audio-On Circuitry: The RPS 1000 powered subwoofer
will automatically turn-on whenever an audio signal is detected. If no signal is
detected after several minutes, it will automatically shut-off.
Placement: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 should be placed next to a
wall or in a corner near your main speakers. The sound is typically best when
the subwoofer is within 15-feet of your main speakers. The level of bass output
form the powered subwoofer will vary at different positions in your room. When
placed near walls, the subwoofer's loudness is emphasized. Corner placement
provides the most bass output.
Controls
Volume Level: The Boston Acoustic powered subwoofer offers and
adjustable gain control on the back-panel. The volume control should be adjusted
until you hear a match between your main speakers and the subwoofer's audio
output.
Crossover Control: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 features a
24db/octave, variable low-pass crossover which allows you to adjust the low-pass
frequency of the subwoofer from 40 to 180Hz.
Note: This control is not active when using the LFE input jack.
Polarity Switch: The Boston Acoustic powered subwoofer features and
adjustable polarity switch (0/180-degree) to provide the fullest, most dynamic
bass. The effect of the phase switch will be most audible on low-frequency
percussion instruments or music with a continuously repeating bass line. .
Connections
Line Level Inputs: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 features a stereo and
LFE line level input.
- Line Inputs: The subwoofer has gold plated left and
right RCA Line Level inputs. These inputs are for use with receivers
featuring subwoofer line outputs or "Pre Out" jacks that do not contain
their own low-pass crossover filter. Using the Line Inputs allows RPS 1000
to do all the low-pass filtering. If your receiver or processor only has a
single subwoofer line output and stereo pre out jacks are not available, a
"Y adapter" should be used to feed signals to the inputs of the RPS 1000.
- LFE In: The Boston Acoustic RPS 1000 also features an
LFE mono-RCA input for connection between a receiver that utilizes a LFE
mono-RCA output with its own low-pass crossover filter. In this mode the
internal crossover of your receiver does all the filtering before sending
the audio signal to the subwoofer while the internal low-pass crossover of
the RPS 1000 is bypassed.
Speaker Level Inputs: The Speaker Level inputs (5-way binding posts)
are designed to be used on receivers or amplifiers that do not incorporate any
RCA type subwoofer outputs. If your receiver is equipped with an RCA type
subwoofer output, these speaker level inputs should not be utilized.
