Audio Features
Dual Clocks + Jitter Reduction:
A host of Marantz digital technologies combine to deliver the ultimate audio
experience. The NA-11S1 is equipped with dual master audio clock generators with
jitter reduction for numerous sampling frequencies and bit depths, up to 192kHz/24-bits. A number of audio file types are supported, including WAV, WMA,
MP3, MPEG-4 AAC, FLAC, and ALAC, as well as DSD over PC.
DSP Filtering:
The latest Marantz DSP processor (DSP PEC777f3)
provides precision digital filtering, and the NA-11S1 offers a number of DSP
modes that let you tailor the sound to your liking. There are two for digital
filters, as well as the option of noise shaping and a DC filter with a 1.7 Hz
cutoff.
-
Digital Filters:
Two filter characteristic types can be selected
for DSD and PCM sources.
-
Filter 1:
-
PCM Sources:
This filter has short pre-echo and post-echo
characteristics. It carries a lot of sound information; therefore
very profound sound image and a clear sound source are reproduced.
-
DSD Sources:
This is a direct mode that does not perform
any filtering on the DSD data. The original source data is
reproduced without any alteration.
-
Filter 2:
-
PCM Sources:
This filter offers asymmetrical impulse
response, resembling analog sound quality.
-
DSD Sources:
The asymmetrical DAC operation gives
priority to the resolution, resulting in a smoother sound. DSD data
exceeding 100kHz is attenuated.
-
Noise Shaper:
Noise Shaper is a type of digital feedback used in
the algorithms for oversampling. Digital feedback improves the linearity of
bass sounds and the noise characteristics of the audio frequency band.
-
DC Filter:
This filter is effective in preventing excessive
speaker vibration when playing music sources where audio with extremely low
frequency noise characteristics has been recorded. The cut frequency is set
a 1.7Hz.
Exclusive Output Technology:
For optimum audio fidelity, the NA-11S1 features
high current, high resolution audiophile D/A converters, operating in
differential mode for the lowest noise and widest dynamic range. The critical
post-D/A current-to-voltage conversion is handled by the latest Marantz HDAM-SA2
devices, which feature precision discrete components in lieu of standard op amp
chips. The final analog output stage features additional HDAM devices, and there
are two output choices - unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR). The balanced
outputs also feature a phase-inversion option for compatibility with any
XLR-equipped pre-amp.
Digital Connectivity:
Dual digital audio outputs (optical/coaxial) are provided for connection to
your home theater receiver or other components. There are also dual digital
inputs (optical/coaxial) that let you use the NA-11S1 as a DAC with other
digital audio sources. The digital connections support Linear PCM signals
(stereo) with sampling frequencies of 32, 44.1, 48, 65, 88.2, 96, 176.4, & 192
kHz.
Headphone Amplifier:
The NA-11S1 also employs a high-quality dedicated headphone amplifier, which features its
own output stage that's also equipped with HDAM-SA2 devices along with a
precision variable analog volume control.
Rugged Construction:
The NA-11S1 features a rugged chassis with
internal copper-plated surfaces. The thick 5mm top panel can easily support the
weight of an additional component, and the dual-layer bottom plate and die-cast
aluminum cabinet feet provide solid rigidity along with additional resistance
from external vibrations. The beefy power supply features a high current
toroidal power transformer with multiple oxygen free copper (OFC) secondary
windings, and is housed in a copper-plated enclosure for maximum shielding.
Multiple separate circuit boards ensure minimal interference between the various
analog and digital stages.
Network Functions
Network Connection: The Marantz NA-11S1 is equipped with an
Ethernet (RJ-45) port that lets you connect the network audio player to your home network
(LAN) and your broadband internet provider. When connected to your home network,
the NA-11S1 lets you listen to Internet radio and a host of other online music
sources from your broadband internet provider, as well as play audio files from
your computer via its network connection (DLNA 1.5 certified). The NA-11S1 also
supports AirPlay that lets you stream your music library from an iPhone, iPad,
iPod touch, or iTunes-enabled computer.
Note: This unit's RJ-45 Ethernet port supports
10BASE-T/100BASE-TX and requires an Ethernet (LAN) category 5 or higher
cable, Router, Modem, and Internet connection.
DLNA 1.5 Certified: The NA-11S1 is DLNA (Digital Living
Network Alliance) 1.5 and Windows 7 compliant for audio and photo networking.
This means it's easier for you to access and enjoy digital music stored on your
Windows PC. You can use your PC to play high-bit rate music content through the
network audio player, and browse your PC's music files from the included remote
control. The network audio player also supports ID3-Tag (ver.2) and META tag information; so
song title, artist name, and album name can be displayed on the unit's
front-panel display. The Marantz NA-11S1 supports the following audio formats,
sampling frequencies, and bit rates via its wired network connection.

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change
functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may
need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If
this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is
available.
USB Connectivity
Front-Panel USB Port: A USB memory device can be connected
to the USB (type-A) port located on the front-panel, allowing you to play
various music files through the network audio player. The USB memory device must
be mass storage class (msc) or media transfer protocol (mtp) compliant, and be
formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 (up to 2TB). The unit can recognize up to 500
folders and 5,000 files. The network audio player also supports basic playback
control, song/artist information display, and charging of your connected USB
mass storage class device.
Note: USB memory devices will not work via a USB hub. It is not
possible to connect and use a computer via the unit's front-panel USB port.
Asynchronous USB Computer Connection: You can connect a computer to the
unit's rear-panel USB (type-B) port to playback music stored on your Windows PC
or Mac computer. The USB (type-B) port supports asynchronous transmission to
ensure that audio signals from your PC are jitter-less. The rear-panel USB (type-B) port supports playback of various
audio files stored on your desktop computer or laptop. You can control music
playback from the NA-11S1 and remote control. Song title,
artist name, and album name can be displayed on the unit's front-panel display. Your computer will need to meet the
following system requirements when connected to the NA-11S1
's rear-panel USB
