The journey begins with the innovative 6-3/4" woofer — a high-tech composite material made from basalt and Aramid creates a rigid, lightweight cone. This design supplies solid midbass punch with exceptional midrange definition, while its rubber surround ensures smooth cone excursion. A heavy stamped metal basket supports the woofer cone and dampens vibrations and resonances that can unduly color your music's natural sound.

The oversized soft-dome tweeter radiates impressive highs, aided by a special wave guide that improves off-axis performance — meaning you'll get better stereo imaging in more locations throughout your car. A sealed rear chamber allows the tweeter to reach lower into the midrange to improve the definition of vocals and instruments. The tweeter's compact and powerful neodymium magnet provides excellent performance even when the power levels are cranked.

Features

Dual-Layer IMX Aramid/Basalt Fiber Composite Cone: The Pioneer D-Series speaker features Dual-layer IMX (Injection-molded Matrix) aramid/basalt fiber composite cone woofers. Used in the surface layer, this Aramid/Basalt Fiber material is highly rigid and better absorbent, enhancing stability and maintaining integrity throughout a wide temperature range. The woofers also have butyl rubber surrounds for a smoother response, heat resistant voice coil, and 5.3-ounce Strontium magnets.

Rear Chamber Tweeter Enclosure: The Pioneer D-Series speakers feature an exclusive rear chamber tweeter enclosure. This design extends mid-range frequency for improved vocal imaging and staging. The TS-D1702R's 1-1/8" soft dome tweeters also utilizes wave guides to control sound dispersion to make sound stage wider in the car. In addition, the tweeter uses a magnetic fluid neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.

High-Quality Passive Crossover Network: The built-in HPF (-12 dB/oct.) and LPF (-6 dB/oct.) crossover improves the transition from mid to high frequency, for a smoother mid-range to tweeter response. Audiophile-grade capacitors and inductors are used, and all components are encased in a clear acrylic cover for protection.

Grilles: The speakers come with black steel mesh grilles with silver heat-proof resin frames.

Mounting Ring: The supplied mounting ring has mounting holes for various 6-3/4" applications, allowing the speaker to fit more vehicles. In most cases, the ring should be used to mount the speaker.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Existing Jeep Liberty Infinity speakers were actually 2 ohm, these are 4 ohm. Used the OEM amps and replaced the front speakers with these. Of course the sound is marginal with the balance of the system setup for 2 ohm.

Nice for the Price

These speakers are well built and changed my opinion of Pioneer. I had been running w/the other big names in component and 2/way prior to 2009 when I purchased a set of these during a budget crunch. (Just found out I was a Daddy) Long story short, I was impressed w/the quality sound. I've had them almost 3 years to date and they still scream and pounce my doors off. The only down size was the magnet depth that almost had me running back to the store. I quickly found a solution to the problem w/a pair of spacers and man was I glad I kept them. Buy them and you won't be disappointed. I also recommend the D-series component sets, which I mounted up front of my newly aquired SUV/Daddy Waggon. Make sure you push them w/at least 40W RMS (not the cheap kind either). I started out w/the 14W RMS from my head unit and quickly realized that was not enough. Buy a pair and find out for yourself!

Cons:

A little big on the magnet for a 6.5" speaker. Pick up spacers if you're a GM guy.

Underated Speakers

I've installed these speakers on a total of 3 cars a 08 acura tl, 04 mustang gt and my 09 civic si. they sound incredible i've ran them on an alpine mrp-f300 and an alpine pdx 5 and these speakers just shine. crisp highs and great mids for the vocals i recently removed my system in my civic and missed them so bad i got 2 more sets on the way!

Pros:

Incredible sound for the price, handled any amp i put on them and didn't distort at all.

Great for Rear Speakers

These speakers are awesome. They are well built. I was laughing when I pulled out the stock junk Toyota puts in the Tundra. These speakers have great mids and the tweeter pulls out the detail in the music. I think the bass is great for a 6.75 speaker. This is my first experience with Pioneer speakers, and I am impressed with the quality of their product.
