Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Our take on the Infinity Reference 6832cf

by Buck Pomerantz

Rely on Infinity to revitalize the sound in your car. Replace your tired-out, old factory speakers with Reference Series full-range speakers that'll play your music louder and better.

Infinity Reference 6832cf 5"x7"/6"x8" speakers feature a Plus One+ woofer design that maximizes cone surface area so you enjoy richer, deeper lows. Large textile dome tweeters project smooth, clean highs, and their large voice coils in the tweeters allow for high power-handling. They're equipped with a level control so you can fine-tune the degree of brightness to match your taste. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Important Note: These Infinity Reference speakers use a low impedance design to pull more power safely from your car stereo or amplifier. This design is compatible with virtually all factory and aftermarket stereos.

Installation Note: These Infinity speakers do not include screws or speed clips. You may be able to use the factory screws to install them, but it's always a good idea to have an assortment of self-tapping screws (5/8" to 1") and speed-clips on hand.

Highlights:

  • 5"x7"/6"x8" 2-way speakers (pair)
  • Plus One+ Injection-Molded Polypropylene (IMPP) woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround
  • 1" UniPivot edge-driven, textile dome tweeter
  • True Four Ohm Impedance technology: speaker's 2-ohm impedance combines with speaker wire impedance for a 4-ohm load
  • compatible with virtually all factory or aftermarket car stereos
  • power range: 2-60 watts RMS (180 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 49-21,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 93 dB

    Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone significantly larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Woofer Materials: Each woofer is constructed from Injection-Molded Polypropylene. This process of cone molding assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also lighter weight and more rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Hi-roll Rubber Surrounds: The hi-roll rubber surrounds allow the woofers a greater range of movement, resulting in longer X-max and more bass output.

Textile Dome Tweeters (UniPivot Design): Each speaker uses an edge-driven textile dome tweeter for smooth, accurate highs. The UniPivot design allows the tweeter to be pointed at the listeners location even when the speaker is mounted off axis. This optimizes the stereo image and ensures a more uniform response. The tweeter housing can be turned approximately 315 degrees.

Tweeter Level Control: A switch on the front of the tweeter allows you to boost the tweeter output 3dB, useful if the speakers are mounted low in a door where high frequencies are easily absorbed.

    Mounting: Infinity's mounting system allows the 6832cf speakers to fit in 6" x 8" and 5" x 7" applications.

No Grilles: The speakers do not come with grilles. They are designed as a replacement for OEM speakers, utilizing the factory grilles.

True Four Ohm Impedance Technology: The speaker's 2.0-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of your speaker wire provides a true 4-ohm load to your connected headunit or amplifier.

    Great Factory Replacements!

Written By George D, Honesdale, PA on Wednesday, November 28, 2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these Infinitys to replace the factory speakers in my wife's 2000 Explorer Sport. Not only did I get them at a GREAT price but shipping was FREE and vehicle specific harnesses were included as well! Installation was a breeze with all 4 speakers taking a total of 25 - 30 minutes! I was sent a pamphlet that gave me step-by-step instructions on how to remove and re-install the speakers. My wife and I couldn't be happier with this product! :)

These are definitely not speakers for you if you're looking for big bass response but the CLARITY of the set is what really made me glad I chose them. They all have a tweeter level control switch that allows the output of the tweeter to be increased by 3db and lets the high frequencies really cut through the mix.

I have dealt with Crutchfield in the past and have never had a bad experience. The quality of the products is top-notch and this company really knows how to take care of their customers!
    Pros:
Factory replacement was quick and easy. Clear and balanced sound Tweeter level control lets you dial in your sound Great price! Free shipping!
    Cons:
Not a lot of low end response

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 4 of these for my hunting truck (03 f250) at the same time as I replaced the head unit. I mix audio at the House of Blues, so from a professional audio standpoint I'd say the hi response is as advertised. Clear with no distortion in normal usage ranges. The 3db tweeter boost is completely unnesessary, even in my cavernous, cloth filled hunting rig. Mid-range is acceptable for the price-point, but not amazing. The low end, as stated by others is basicly nonexistant. I believe the manufacturer stated a low freq response starting at 47hz(?) but in reality that's probly closer to 100hz. For the money, very nice units. My personal opinion is that they would be best suited for a properly crossed rig with a seperate amp/bass setup to run anything sub-200hz. I would buy them again.
    Pros:
    Clear high's. Low cost.
    Cons:
    No low end.

    Dramatic Improvement Over Factory

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I still cannot get over the sound quality improvement vs. the factory speakers in my 2012 F150 Scab! I am currently powering these with my factory head unit (with Sync). While you do lose a slight bit of low end, the bass is much tighter. The mids are warm and the highs are bright and crisp. While the 2012 F150's have a factory tweeter in the a-pillar, the additional rotating tweeter helps with sound imaging (I have the +3db switched on for all four speakers). I listen to mostly country so these are perfect. I suspect if you powered these speakers with an amp they would blow you away! I'll be adding a small powered sub to round out the low end.

Installation was straight forward with the Master Sheet and wiring harness. Overall I could not be happier with the purchase!!
    Pros:
Low impedance, high efficiency Rotating tweeter to help with sound imaging Perfect fit Great overall frequency range Terrific sound
    Cons:

These are Excellent overall sounding speakers. You dont get the low Bass, but thats not why you buy these. The bass is still present and good. The sound is rich, smooth, and enjoyable. I bought two pairs to replace my factory speakers ion my 2006 Ford Taurus, best investment I made. I HIGHLY recommend these speakers for anyone looking to upgrade their factory radio or add a great dimension to their aftermarket system.

    Excellent, smooth, rich sound

What a difference! I replaced my stock front speakers on my shaker 500 07 mustang gt and can't believe the difference. Before, the speakers sounded muddy and if you cruised around with your windows down, forget hearing any highs or mids. Very clean and sharp highs and like to swival tweeter. I bought these with 5x7 baffles and with Crutchfield including the wire adapters, it was a breeze. It took me about 20min to install on both doors including removing and replacing the door panels. I've heard many different speaker brands and have to hand this to Infinity. Very good quality and worth the extra money!

Quality, sound, bang for the buck

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were installed in a 1998 Ford Expedition. I bought these speakers as a first time stereo up-grader on the recommendation of Crutchfield outlet store. Wow, I am so glad those guys suggested these speakers. These speakers are nothing short of incredible. The sound quality is amazing, very clear/sharp highs and good mids (I will address bass later as it seems to be a common complaint). These speakers are very efficient which means that you don't have to crank the volume to hear them. All in all I would recommend. About the bass.... These SPEAKERS are NOT SUBS A lot of people say they have less bass than the factory speakers they remove and that is probably true. The reason is factory speakers are designed to give bass, which allows car companies to get around adding a sub. These are made to work in a DESIGNED system where most bass is delivered via a sub, not these speakers. Without a sub, the sacrifice for bass is sound quality and these speakers are about sound QUALITY, not bass. Also, ALL speakers have a break in period. I was extremely disappointed with the bass out of the box with these speakers. I had the bass all the way up and it was hardly there. Given a week or so of easy break-in, these things will shake my mirrors and the bass is excellent considering I do NOT have a sub installed.
    Pros:
Great sound quality Well made Adjustable tweeter
    Cons:
Mediocre bass response (improves over time) *MOUNTING SCREWS ARE NOT INCLUDED*

Not much bass from these speakers

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got these to replace a pair a Kenwood KFC-X680 (one speaker died and are discontinued) in a 2002 Lincoln and these Infinity's sound worse than the stock speakers. This speaker had NO BASS at all from it. Even tried a baffle and that didn't help. Although the sound quality was ok, I wanted something with a little more punch. I'm still running my stock radio, but still the Kenwood's rock, these don't.
    Pros:
    Look nice, adjustable tweeter
    Cons:
No bass from a stock radio.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the rear speakers in my 2012 Mustang GT (base audio) with these speakers, and what a HUGE improvement they made! I started with Pioneer D-Series in the front doors, which are also great speakers, but hadn't replaced the rears as they are a little more involved, and the system just wasn't right, the factory sub-par speakers shone through still. These Infinity speakers compliment the Pioneers up front perfectly, and the rotating tweeter domes let me aim the sound forward for better imaging.

Great sounding speaker, well thought out package with adhesive-backed foam mounting pads included, doesn't get any better for the price.

Don't expect earth shattering bass from these (or any full range), that's not what they're about, but they make even your stock head unit sound great!
    Pros:
Awesome sound, rotating tweeter dome, foam backing pads
    Cons:
    None

Crutchfield came through with a great price on the Infinity 6832cf speakers. Installed 4 in my f150, Not disapointed, actualy very pleased. Compaired to stock speakers these provide a very solid base response, with great mids, and highs, along with a richness or fullness that just is not found in the stock speakers. Thanks Crutchfield, Great service, and I'm very happy.

Mids and highs are dramatic and nicely balanced. Bass is fine but nothing you will write home about. Tried with and without dynamat speaker kit. The dynamat did not make enough difference. Buy a sub to accent these. The mid bass to highs are fantastic and well worth the price. Using Clarion CX 501 to power and they work together quite well. Just think I will get a small sub to boost the bottom end.

I imagine if you powered these with a 50 watt amp they would provide ample bass for most people. The bass they do reproduce is very nice but just not quite enough to compete with the mids and highs.

Soundstage from the doors became much more focused and broader when I installed these. For the price, I have not heard better.
    Pros:
    Fits; Brand; Price
    Cons:
Tweeter 3dB boost is serious OVERKILL

These speakers sound amazing. The highs and mids are just what I expected. Not very much lows but complimented with some good subs, these speakers help make up a great sound system. I've heard a lot of good things about Infinity and this being my first sound system, I'm sold on Infinity. For the price, you definitely get much more than you pay for.

I blew one of these speakers about 3 months after I got it. After blowing my sub, while I was waiting for my new one to come in, I turned up the bass boost on my amp and again, these speakers can't really handle much lows. However, one 5 minute phone call to crutchfield and I had two new speakers on the way, no hassle what so ever. So as long as you keep from feeding too much lows to these speakers they will perform incredibly. I would definitely recommend these speaker, and HIGHLY recommend you buy them from crutchfield. These guys are great.
    Pros:
Amazing sound!! Crisp, clean mids and highs.
    Cons:
    Not so much lows.

I bought 1 pair of speakers to replace the factory installed pair in my conversion van. The Crutchfield sales rep recommend this brand because they have a good sensitivity rating and should be compatible with the other 4 factory speakers. I was hoping it get more bass out of the Ford factory system with these new speakers. While these speakers provide good high and mid range sound, and they seem to work well with the other speakers, they do not significantly increase the bass.

I went to upgrade the speakers in my F-150 with a pair of infinity 2-way 6x8's I had from another vehicle I sold. They were older but in new condition BUT I damaged one of the cones installing them so I bought one pair of the new models. Boy what a difference between the old pair & the new pair. They sound so good I bought a second pair to match the system up. Love these speakers. Worth the money!

    Infinity Quality

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Visually inspecting these speakers: very solid, no misses on the part of QC. The fact that the tweeter can be 'aimed' and given a boost is very thoughtful! It helped in my car, where the fronts are near my shins and the rear deck allowed me to get them aimed at the window for great acoustic effect! I was able to test the amazing range of these speakers due to my headunit's very customizable user-set EQ. Once set to my liking, the bass is very low and non-distorted, and during a sine-sweep, they transitioned from Low, Mid and highs smoothly. I've decided I will probably hold off on a subwoofer, since I'm sick of installing audio parts and these speakers provide well enough! I've always heard great things about Infinity, and this being my first pair, I'm very impressed!

These speakers are a very good value for the price. The advanced features of a two-position treble level and a positionable tweeter are very nice. Crutchfield's installation instructions were right on the money, and everything I needed was in the box. The fit was perfect with no cutting, a quick and simple installation. The sound is clear and open. Highly recommended.
