Paradigm

Our take on the Paradigm MilleniaOne CT™

by Dave Bar
milleniaone ct lifestyle

The MilleniaOne CT's modern, low-profile design fits in with almost any décor.

Reference-quality sound in a low-profile package

It's hard to believe such spine-tingling, room-filling sound can come from such a compact powered speaker system. But then, Paradigm's MilleniaOne CT is no ordinary 2.1 system. This gorgeous, precision-made package is built to deliver reference-quality sound without taking up valuable real estate in your room. Pair it with your TV and an audio/video source like a Blu-ray or DVD player, or Apple TV® to create a high-impact, low-profile home theater setup. The MilleniaOne CT makes an excellent alternative to typical sound bar speakers by giving you much-needed stereo separation for more realistic sound. The system's DSP preamp can decode Dolby Digital movie soundtracks and downmix the signal for clear 2.1 sound. You can also plug in your smartphone or portable music player to enjoy fantastic, full-range music playback. The system comes with everything you need for quick, easy setup.

Makes a great desktop setup, too

Along with its ability to fill a room with rich detailed sound, the MilleniaOne CT also makes an excellent near-field, desktop audio system. Connected to your computer, it will bring your music to life and add presence and realism to your video games. Included desktop speaker stands allow you to adjust the satellites to achieve the perfect listening angle. The system's small interface box provides analog and digital audio inputs for your sources, and hooks up to the MilleniaOne CT's subwoofer with a supplied cable. The tiny, five-button remote controls the system.

MilleniaOne satellie speaker exploded view

The MilleniaOne CT's advanced precision drivers and crossovers ensure crisp, detailed sound.

Engineered for major performance

As an award-winning, high-end speaker manufacturer, Paradigm takes engineering and audio performance seriously. That's why the MilleniaOne CT speakers are built to exacting standards with top-shelf component parts. The satellite's high-quality cast-aluminum cabinets house advanced pure aluminum dome tweeters and bass/midrange cones for precise, detailed sound. The subwoofer's extruded aluminum enclosure features a unique, low-profile 14" x 3" cone with a patented corrugated surround that delivers deep, room-shaking bass. You can position the sub horizontally using four supplied rubber feet, or place it vertically in the included stand. A powerful, three-channel amplifier built into the sub drives the satellite speakers with 50 watts each, while pushing 100 watts of power to the woofer. Proprietary digital signal processing in the amp monitors the audio signal to ensure accurate, consistent and musical sound without distortion, even when the system is playing at high volumes.

    Features

Overview: The 2.1 MilleniaOne CT System includes two satellite speakers, a low-profile subwoofer with built-in system amp, control box, and IR remote. The 2.1 MilleniaOne CT makes a great addition to your flat-panel television, gaming console, or computer. It provides a vastly improved listening experience for your movies, music, and games.

Satellite Speakers: The 2.1 MilleniaOne CT System features a pair of cast-aluminum satellite speakers. The sophisticated die-cast aluminum speaker enclosure and integrated baffle and chassis allow for larger, more powerful drivers than typical in a system of this size. Each satellite speaker features an advanced 1" S-PAL (Satin-Anodized Pure-Aluminum) dome tweeter with a powerful motor structure and neodymium magnet, plus high-temperature aluminum wire voice coil. Each speaker also features an advanced 4" S-PAL (Satin-Anodized Pure-Aluminum) bass/midrange driver with an oversized motor structure and a large, powerful ceramic-ferrite magnet; plus high-temperature copper-clad aluminum wire voice coil. High-quality nitrile butadiene rubber surrounds around the bass/midrange drivers provide superb damping properties and excellent flexibility that promote extended cone movement. A 3rd-order electro-acoustic crossover (2.4 kHz) separates the bass/midrange frequencies from the high frequencies. Each enclosure features a rear-firing port for added efficiency and bass response. Low-diffraction grilles maximize imaging and ensure smooth dispersion.

Powered Subwoofer: The 2.1 MilleniaOne CT also features a low-profile powered subwoofer with Patented Surround Technology. The low-profile subwoofer employs a well dampened die-cast aluminum enclosure to resist vibration and distortion. The enclosure is an acoustic suspension (sealed) designed for tighter, accurate bass. Its 14" x 3" reinforced polymer composite cone woofer with patented low-distortion corrugated rubber surround delivers bass that is deep and rich with room-shaking power. The powerful built-in 3-channel Ultra-Class D amplifier provides 50 watts (RMS) to each satellite speaker and 100 watts (RMS) to the subwoofer. System peak power is 600 watts.

Dolby Digital Decoder: The 2.1 MilleniaOne CT System decodes Dolby Digital through its optical (toslink) digital input and downmixes/remixes the signal for 2.1 channel.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Sophisticated mathematical algorithms shape frequency response so that even when you're listening at loud levels not only is the bass intense, overall sound from the MilleniaOne CT is unbelievably accurate, clear and musical.

Loudness: A built-in custom loudness compensation feature based on established equal loudness contours delivers a more natural auditory experience when the system is playing at lower volumes.

Limiter: The powered subwoofer features smooth limiting function that minimizes the potential for audible distortion and ensures musical bass at higher output. The satellite speakers also boast a unique limiting feature that minimizes distortion and prevents muddiness of sound when the system is playing at high output.

Connections: The system's control box is fitted with an optical (toslink) digital input and analog (3.5mm) audio input to connect to your TV, game console, or computer. There is also a RJ-45 port which connects the control box to the system's powered subwoofer, using the included 15' RG-45 cable. There are spring-post speaker terminals on the back of each speaker and subwoofer, as well as two 15' lengths of speaker wire that connect the speakers and sub together. The powered subwoofer needs be plugged into an AC power outlet using the included 6' power cord.

Controls: The included IR remote provides Power, Input, Volume, and Mute controls. The remote is powered by a single CR2025 3V lithium battery (already installed). There is a subwoofer level control on the rear-panel of the powered sub to adjust the system's bass level independent from the system's volume level.

Mounting Options: The two satellite speakers can be table-top mounted using the included table-stands or wall mounted using the included wall-mount brackets (hardware to mount brackets to wall not included). Both the table-stands and wall-mount brackets allow you to tilt the speakers up/down. The powered subwoofer comes with a cradle to mount it vertically or rubber feet to position it horizontally.

Recieved the system Quickly and intact. Hooked it all up and then.....Nothing. no sound no power no nothing. it wouldn't power up at all. Call Crutchfield and they took care of the problem immidately. Thanks to Crutchfield i'm not stuck with a dud. You would think for this price plus tax somebody would have tested this system.
    Pros:
Looks nice, hook up was easy, smelled new!
    Cons:
    Wouldn't work

    Small Footprint - Incredible sound

Written By Bob S. Corvallis, Oregon, Corvallis, Oregon on Monday, April 29, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted a good sounding sound system for my iMac so I could listen to opera from the Met on-line. My Crutchfield advisor recommended the Paradigms and they are truly the perfect fit. They take up very little room but the sound is incredible. The sub-woofer adds the depth and power to the operatic voices and the sound reproduction is all I could ever hope for. You will not regret investing in this wonderful speaker system.
    Pros:
Crutchfield recommendations and service......this is the perfect fit for my iMac......the quality of sound.....the power of the subwoofer...... the stereo separation........I couldn't be happier!!!!

For those who want the best

Written By EricM, Chatsworth, CA on Tuesday, April 23, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The clarity, drive and accuracy these speakers output are incredible! They have an incredible range and are without a doubt the best speakers I've ever heard attached to a computer system (via the Digital Audio connector of course). Yes, they are not cheap, but if you are not the type of person who can settle for "good enough", but only choose the best quality then these are an excellent choice!
    Pros:
Sound is absolutely incredible! Look great with my Mac gear. Easy setup.
    Cons:
Cheaply-made remote control and control box. Fortunately, the build of the speakers and subwoofer are top-notch and more than make up for the plastic bit I just keep out of site anyway.

    Paradigm MilleniaOne CT™

Written By Antobot, Houston, TX on Tuesday, March 26, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

this system sounds amazing. note that the satellites are ported, not sealed. the paradigm website specs these as sealed which initially scared me since the milleniaone satellites are ported. these do have an obvious break in period. they sounded pretty horrible out of the box but after about 3 hours they sounded amazing. I would of liked the sub to be dual driver like the real milleniasub but then again the milleniasub cost $1400 so I suppose I shouldn't expect that.
    Pros:
satellites are super clear with a flat response from what I can tell. build quality of the satellites and sub. tiny sub that is surprisingly loud, fast, and accurate.
    Cons:
seems like the sub gets quitter as you go lower (50hz seems to be the cut off, 30hz is still audible) so don't expect it to knock you out of your seat. I feel like the sub can get confused on more complicated bass tracks (subjective). there are no hard wired controls so it depends only on the remote. remote is dinky and cheap feeling so I expect it to break after 2 years.

    Big sound, small footprint

Written By chinacat29, Philadelphia, PA on Friday, March 01, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound in a small package. I do think it's overpriced especially with the small, cheap plasic remote that it comes with. Also, there is no way to turn the system on or off or control the volume if you lose the remote. It would be great if you could program the system to be used with a universal remote. I expected more from Paradigm and they definitely failed on the remote design.
    Pros:
    Sound quality
    Cons:
Remote control is a piece of garbage and if you lose it you have to buy a new one from Paradigm. System won't turn on or off without remote. There's no place where you can see the volume level.

Written By Almax, Phoenix, AZ on Thursday, January 24, 2013

Love my system, sounds great for news, tv shows and movies. My daughter had a birthday party and from upstairs I was surprised how loud and penetrating the sound was. Replaced older Bose speakers and these are no comparison.
    Pros:
Very pleasing aesthetically, easy to connect to my existing systems, space savings, sounds great with news, movies and music.
    Cons:
wish there was a manual interface on the control box in case I lose the (very) little remote

These little guys blow me away!

Written By Sandy S, Seminole, FL on Wednesday, January 09, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've always been an audiophile and I have a fortune invested in my sound equipment - I spent $12,500 just for a pre-amp & amp with over $17,000 invested in my speaker system. I used to have a dedicated listening room and my equipment showed itself off as the reference system it is capable of being. But alas, the acoustics in my current abode just did not work with the system. I have been searching for a small, powered system not requiring a receiver or ancillary equipment (basically a so-called 2.1 system - two satellite speakers with an effective sub-woofer) to use with my TV and some music when my iPad is interfaced to the TV.

My search finally came to fruition today with the arrival of my Paradigm MilleniaOne CT system, voted Equipment of the Year by one of the leading audio magazines. Various reviews in the audio community by those whose opinions I valued supported their choice. These little beauties can certainly be described as "pricey," but they are blowing me away. I thought the sound on my Samsung HD TV with it's 6 speakers (3 on either side of the cabinet) had some reasonable sound. Absolutely trash compared to the Paradigm speakers. Paradigm considers these to be reference speakers - they have a less expensive product - MilleniaOne, but life is too short to go for second best. The best news is that it will probably take quite a few hours to break these in to reveal their full potential.

Bottom line is that I love this system and find myself spending considerable time simply playing my music collection through them rather than simply using them as a medium for great TV sound. I highly recommend this system - it is just what I was looking for!!
    Pros:
Great sound, attractive looking, takes up little space, very high quality
    Cons:
I don't like attaching bare wires to speaker terminals - I think that Paradigm could have done a better job there.

    Huge Sound Small Space

Written By groovyd, Decatur, GA on Sunday, November 18, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been through a number of desktop computer speaker setups from Bose to AudioEngine to Koss and these. There is not even a comparison possible here. These just blow everything else away and the build quality is about as good as it comes. My only regret is I wish it had direct usb in to the sub and the option to completely bypass the controller and remote since I am using this for a computer and not an entertainment center.
    Pros:
    Sound is simply gracious
    Cons:
    Connectivity options

    Amazing sound system!

Written By Anonymous, South Carolina on Tuesday, November 13, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an amazing quality system and punches out a fantastic sound with a relatively small footprint. This is truly a reference quality sound system, putting out a sound that you think must be coming from a large speaker system. Obviously, it is very expensive but if you are looking for very high quality sound using a small footprint then look no further.

I am currently using this in a very large and open living room and it holds up very well there. I control it using a sonos system which I also purchased. The Paradigm is connected to a Sonos Connect and I have a Sonos Play 5 in my kitchen. Great sound set up!

    Pros:
Sound quality Small Footprint Ease of Use and Set Up
    Cons:
Price Entirely controlled by a single, small remote Limited sound inputs (one digital and one analog connection)
