Product Research

Features

Overview: The JL Audio RCA-to-Speaker Wire Adapters (XD-CLRAIC2-SW) allow high level speaker outputs to be connected via RCA plugs. Ideal for use with amplifiers that have high-level input capability, but no speaker wire input connections. The molded RCA plugs are short and the speaker wire is 16-gauge to allow for easy installation in tight areas.

Note: This is not a line output converter. It does not change a high voltage speaker level signal to a low voltage line level signal, and should not be used to connect a speaker level signal to an amp that only has line level inputs.

Q
My receiver has a RCA OUT for powered subwoofer and my powered subwoofer has RCA IN but it is in another room. I already have 12 gauge speaker cable through the walls. Can I use this product to connect the above said receiver and subwoofer using the existing speaker cable?
killer  Aug 15, 2023

A
Greetings, and thank you for your question. Technically yes, it would get a signal to your subwoofer. On the other hand, a dedicated subwoofer cable is built to low or no signal loss. These adapters are for adding a car amplifier when the car stereo has no RCA outputs like factory radios. It will work, but I would imagine there will be some signal loss.

Q
I have a 2022 Ram TRX with the Uconncet5. I see some people use the PAC APH-CH21 and APH-CH42 to get a preamp signal. Can I just this product instead to run to a Kicker or JL amp?
red22trx  Jan 10, 2023
1 answer
A
If you are just looking to add a mono amp to your stock system then you can use that adapter to tap into your stock system instead of that PAC interface which gives you fill 6 channel preamp outputs to change out all your speakers. If are trying to do something slightly different we have helpful advisors standing by at 800.324.9695 so please give us a call and we can get you set up with the right products for your build!

Q
I have a JD500/1 and going to parallel to 2 10"3v3-4 ending at 250w @2ohms. Is it necessary to tap both L and R signals from the HU? Since I'll be bridging the output to the subs? And on the HU which channel (4) is better to grab the low signal? Thanks.
philip  Aug 04, 2022
1 answer
A
Tapping both a left and right signal will give you the best outcome for sound even if you are using a mono amp. So, highly suggested. I'm not able to see your exact vehicle, but you can use any speakers outputs on the factory receiver as long as you aren't tapping into speaker wires that are just going to smaller speakers in the car that may have limited frequencies going to them. Speaker wires to larger speakers or a factory sub will work.

Q
I have a Alpine head unit with RCA . some one told me that if I ran my speaker wire to this it would be high output and sound better is this true .ps running JL audio 400/4 rd .and JL audio rd 1500/1?
antonio  May 22, 2022
1 answer
A
That's a really good question Tony! If you have an RCA output you won't get any benefit from using speaker level outs like this, and you could add distortion. These should only be used if you are using amps with speaker level inputs and do not have RCA low level output available. With your dual amp setup if you are looking for increased performance I'd suggest using a matrix like the Audiocontrol unit I've linked below to boost and tune your RCA output from the Alpine, take a look! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_161MATRIXP/AudioControl-Matrix-Plus.html

Q
will this work with a factory chevy bose on a 2009? Going to put a amp and subwoofer.
tim  Mar 15, 2022
1 answer
A
Hi Tim! I don't know why it wouldn't work. I have one mounted in my 2004 2500HD Silverado driving 2-12" Kicker subwoofers and it sounds great. I would recommend you purchase the accessory bass volume control so you can adjust the bass volume as necessary. I rarely have to go halfway to balance the bass with factory radio output. I liked mine so much, I bought a second one for the stereo in my fifth wheel camper. I hope this helps in your decision! Brian

Scosche (spelling may be wrong) makes the best adapter for either direction. Some with attenuation controls..

Line converters. Basically a phono cable adapter. Most have built in circuit to boost or defeat signal to proper levels.

Q
I have a jl audio marine 1000/1 amp. Can I run those RCA cables to my amp as well, or do I need a line out converter?
scott  May 02, 2021
1 answer
A
You will need to run those from your amp in order to hook up a normal rca set up what i mean is you should write the wire to rca converters wire side to the amp so that you have plugs available to hook RCAs into. And then depending on it you have a factory head unit you have to wire another set to you factory speaker and then hook RCAs to that.

Q
Iâ??m going to use these to connect to my factory radio to a RD1000/1 do I connect them to two separate pairs of speaker wires and connect them to both left and right rca jacks on the amplifier or do I only need to use the left input on my amp?
charles  Dec 19, 2020

A
I don't know for sure. Maybe the answer is in your amp instruction sheet. With most of my recent systems, both left & right signals were connected to the amp input.
mike  Dec 19, 2020
A
If you are tapping your speakers to get a signal for the amp, to ultimately hook to your subs. Then you will need to figure which pair of speakers you are wanting to tap for the signal, obviously you will want the signal that plays the lows for a sub. Once you figure that out, then you will run both tapped signal wires towards wherever your amp is located. Hook one set of tapped wires to one Rca, negative and Positive. Then hook the other set to the other Rca, then connect to corresponding location on amp, left or right. Let the amp decide if it needs left or right signal. Its better to have both tapped just incase. From my experience, having both left and right gave me better bass. I'm sure there is also a situation where what you've mentioned works also, just having a left or just having a right.

Can I buy 2 sets of these cables for a 4 channel amp? I'm not sure how that works I want to power up door speakers.
ashley  Apr 20, 2020

A
It depends on your application. You may just need patch cables/rca Jack's for your 4 channel amp. Those JL audio Jack's are for line input to rca.Enter

Q
will these work for a subwoofer installation as well?
larry  Nov 12, 2018

A
Yes, that's what I used them for. I took the high-level signal from the B-Pillars and used these to convert them to RCA. My Amp can use that high-level signal at the RCA inputs - I believe it uses the higher level signal from the speaker input as a remote signal. It's been a while since I did the install. I've also used these in the house when I ran a second sub in the living room. Nice solid connections.
jeremy  Nov 14, 2018
A
I don't se why not. As long as it has a negative and positive port it should.
jeffery teabags  Nov 14, 2018
A
Yes I used them to adapt my screw style outputs on my amp to RCA inputs on my loaded box.
jeffery  Nov 13, 2018
A
Yes they will. I used them to go from the hardwire pulled through my walls to connect to my amp on one end and my sub on the other.
joshua n  Nov 13, 2018

Yes, They are heavy duty and worked for my application.I needed to split the signal from the stereo because I am running 2 separate 450 watt amps to power each sub-woofer independently.

I'm not sure why you would do that . Plus most amps use bare wire outputs to hook up your speakers
jonathan  Nov 11, 2018
A
Yes, I did something similar when I installed my system as my AMP had line level input options on the RCA input jacks. I tapped into the factory rear speaker supply wires so I could control the amp volume with the fader controls. It's is amassing what a little extra base can do for a factory system

Q
I'm tapping the stock signal before the stock amplifier. Was planning on using 20awg speaker wire and at the DSP using this JL connector to the input. Is it recommend to use RCA cable for the full length or will the speaker wire work fine? BTW,It is high quality Crutchfield speaker wire that has quite a thick soft insulation.

A
If your tapping in behind the radio or in the kick panel I would run a full length rca. Reason being you might replace your factory radio one day and you would want the rca to plug directly into the radio.
greg  Mar 01, 2018
A
Speaker wire should be fine.

Hi. Gene. Is 9 inches long, with female barrel connector make it 10 inches long.
alvin  Jan 12, 2014
A
You can add extra wire to it & make it as long as you need.
juan  Jan 11, 2014
A
Specifically, I would think that only Crutchfield can answer that. My question to you would be "why would you want them longer?" I have "Audioquest FLX-DB14/2" wire for all my long runs. This is supposed to be the best there is and is approved for in-wall wiring. I would think that having shorter runs (wire) would decrease the chances of distortion. I needed these to temporarily hookup my speakers to my Oppo BDP-95 Blu-Ray player while I send my AV receiver in for repair. The Oppo's outputs use the RCA plugs and the receiver utilizes bare wire or speaker cable connector "pins" which I elected to not use. The only thing that I could see that might be better would to use a "soldered" connection but I couldn't find any. I know I won't be using these as a permanent connection.
marvin j  Jan 11, 2014
A
I don't think so. Just get more speaker wire.
bruce  Jan 11, 2014
Q
Does this actually attenuate the signal or just make it easier to connect? One could wire on any RCA connector to a speaker lead. But do the barrel connectors actually change the signal?
nathan  Jan 01, 2014

A
Ensures an easier connection. I prefer running rca cables down the car rather than speaker wire, also the rca cables are more shielded from any interference than speaker wire would be
doyle  Jan 02, 2014
A
No the barrel connectors are just a way to connect two male ends.
robert  Jan 02, 2014
A
Just makes it easier to connect. I used this to tap in to my factory speaker wires to send signal to my JL Slash 500/1
robert  Jan 01, 2014
A
It didn't increase or decrease the signal but it surely take the alternator sound off my system.. It might be different if you directly going to the an amp with speaker input ... My system got an eq so when I tried to connect gave me a muffled sound and didn't sound good when I connect directly to the speaker output. Might be good product do a factory radio maybe.. Hope this helps
stephen  Jan 01, 2014
A
No, it just makes it easier to connect. But if you think you can just wire any rca connection on to speaker wire, you are mistaken. Most will be near impossible so these are worth grabbing imo.
