Product Research

Features

Overview: The Klipsch IK-650-C installation kit offers increased mounting flexibility for all of Klipsch residential in-ceiling speakers that employ a 6.5" woofer. This installation kit also fits Klipsch's commercial IC-5T in-ceiling speakers. This installation kit design incorporates two color-coded brackets for easy speaker size identification. A flat side with a raised wall allows it to be mounted directly to a joist, making it much easier to align the speakers with other items in the ceiling. The kit also comes with four perforated metal wings that easily fasten to the studs via screws, staples or nails. Ribbed for increased rigidity, these wings enable a kit to span up to 24 inches easily. Painted white for easy marking and placement, these metal wings will fold around the edge of the studs if necessary.

Q
Which side goes down and which side should be inward? It appears as if the side with the "lip" should be into the sheetrock (drywall) and the flush side would be where the speaker sits, is that accurate? the "instructions" on the box do not denote this.

Greetings DIYer19, and thank you for your question. You are right, the manual does not have great detail. You would be better off getting in touch with the people over at Klipsch for this answer. Their number is 800-554-7724. 9-4 Eastern Monday thru Friday.

Q
I just purchased these brackets for my Klipsch 6.5 inch ceiling speakers and I can't figure out what the little circular tab is for inside the bracket... it is not allowing me to seat the speaker inside the bracket -- is this tab for attaching speaker wire to during Sheetrocking and then is it to be removed prior to speaker installation?
mark  Sep 12, 2022

A
Hi Mark, The small circular tab that is inside the bracket is use to tie your speaker cable to the bracket to hold in place during the wiring stage. When you run your speaker wire to the bracket and you want to hold the wire in place just tie the wire to the tab until you are ready to install speaker. Before you install the speaker you can take a pair of pliers and gently bend the tab back and forth until it breaks off. You will not need the tab once you're ready to install your speaker into the bracket.

Q
Can these be used for Polk RC6s?
osudego  Apr 29, 2020

A
The Polk RC6s, would not be a compatible option with the Klispch pre-construction brackets. You would need to use the Polk Audio PB 60 Pre-construction brackets for the Polk RC6s speakers.

Q
I'm installing my speakers in an unfinished basement - I have access to the open ceiling joists. Will these brackets hold up the speakers until I finish the basement at a later date?

A
That is not the intended purpose of these brackets, no.

The edges of the circular bracket do rest on the upper surface of the drywall. I would assume that supports some of the weight of the speaker itself. The speaker in a bracket with just the tabs would seem to droop down. I don't know if it would fall eventually. You might contact Klipsch. You could screw a small piece of drywall across the joist and mount the ring above that or use plywood and furring strips if you want flush mount to the bottom of your joists. Just cut a hole for the speaker to project through.

Probably not. The clips on the speakers use the drywall as support. The brackets are basically for the installers to know where to cut for the speakers. I would suggest using some scrap plywood or drywall to temporarily mount your speakers if you need them up now.

A
Yes, but not really the design for these. I probably wouldn't recommend it however
michael  Jan 28, 2020
A
Yes they will, but in my case I just used them more as a template to layout and hold open the space while we put cedar tongue and groove around them in a ceiling application. To me, unless you are wanting to use them before finishing the ceiling, it would be easier to put in the install kit, run the cable to them and then once your walls or ceiling are finished, put the speakers in so you are not having to work around them during construction. I'm not so sure how well they would work without support if you are actively using them.

I'd imagine they should, you can test fit one, the speaker install is very easy in the bracket, only 2 simple screws. Very nice brackets and design.

Q
How about the cut-out dimensions that this provides once Sheetrock is up? I know it's a 6" woofer, but What is the diameter? 8.25"?
joshua  Nov 30, 2019
1 answer
A
Hi Joshua, thank you for your question. These cutout brackets are designed for specific Klipsch speakers, all of which have a varying cutout diameters, such as 8 1/4", 8 3/16", and 8 5/16". Once these have been installed, the cutout diameter will be within these measurements. Hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, or need further information, please chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. We'll be happy to go over these in further detail.

Q
How many installation kit I would have to buy for 4 in ceiling CDT 3650, 4 in wall R3650, and 1 in wall center R-5502 speakers?
alicia  Feb 12, 2018

Each speaker requires one mounting ring and two metal straps. check with the Crutchfield team to determine if your size is sold as a single or a pair.

Is this for new construction or remodel?
nathan  Feb 12, 2018
A
it comes with 2 in a pack. I've installed quite a few in cieling speakers though and have come to the conclusion that the bracket isn't really all that necessary. It is helpful to get a good well measured hole, but outside of that, it isn't required
irfan  Feb 12, 2018
A
The CDT3650 and R3650 kits are two to a package so you will need two each. The R-5502 is one to a package so you only need one.
