Note
"Color Shock" Display: The Kenwood DPX-MP4070 features the "Color Shock" variable color display which lets you create up to 67 background colors. You can select one of the following display colors: Blue, Mars Red, White, Lavender, Muscat, Pink, Sky Blue, Lime, Violet, Aqua, Orange, or Mint. In addition to the preset colors, you can select Scan or User Color. When the display is in Scan Mode, the unit will continually cycle through all background colors. In User Color mode, you can adjust the red, green, and blue levels to create a custom color for the display.
Display Dimming: This unit is equipped with a wire that Kenwood calls an illumination lead, however, it acts as a dimmer lead. When the illumination wire of this unit is connected to the headlamp circuit of your vehicle, and you turn your lights on, the display will dim to a preset level. The display brightness is not affected by the vehicle's dimmer control.
Contrast Adjustment: The display contrast may be adjusted from "1" up to "11" for optimum readability.
Movie Display: The upper half of the display consists of a grid of rectangular "pixels" (32 horizontal x 7 vertical) with 8 available light patterns called "movies." You can select any of the 8 "movies", continually scan the "movies," or turn off the display patterns.
SRS WOW: The DPX-MP4070 is equipped with SRS WOW, a technology developed by SRS (Sound Retrieval Systems) Labs, which restores the loss that occurs to compressed audio delivered over the Internet and broadcast media, and reduces the hollow-sounding effects caused by smaller speakers. SRS WOW incorporates other SRS technologies such as Focus, TruBass, and SRS 3D for improving the sound:
- Focus: adjusts the sound image by changing the vertical position of the speakers virtually (settings: low/high/off)
- TruBass: uses harmonics to enhance the bass frequencies (settings: on/off)
- SRS 3D: creates a natural 3-dimensional sound field--cannot be set in tuner source (settings: on/off)
There are four settings for SRS WOW: Low, High, User, and Off. The values of TruBass, Focus and SRS 3D can be independently set in the User mode, or are set to the following values:
SRS WOW | Focus | TruBass | SRS 3D |
---|---|---|---|
High | High | On | On |
Low | Low | On | On |
Off | Off | Off | Off |
Equalizer: There are two equalizer modes, Easy and Pro. When the Easy mode is selected, you may select "Rock", "Dance", "Jazz", "Pops", "Heavy", "Soft", "Sharp", "Light", or "Natural" equalization to match the music or vehicle characteristics. You can adjust the level of the equalizer effect for each preset, allowing you to choose "Low", "Mid", or "High". If the Pro mode is selected, you can adjust the following individual settings for each equalization curve:
- Bass Center Frequency: select a bass center frequency of 60, 70, 80, 100, or 150Hz
- Bass Level: adjust the bass level from -12dB to +12dB in 1dB increments
- Bass Quality Factor: set the bass quality factor to 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, or 2.0
- Bass Extend: select On or Off. When the Bass Extend mode is turned on, low frequency response is extended by 20%.
- Middle Center Frequency: select a middle center frequency of 500Hz, 1kHz, 1.5kHz, or 2kHz
- Middle Level: adjust the middle level from -12dB to +12dB in 1dB increments
- Middle Quality Factor: set the middle quality factor to 1.0 or 2.0
- Treble Center Frequency: select a treble center frequency of 10, 12.5, 15, or 17.5kHz
- Treble Level: adjust the treble level from -12dB to +12dB in 1dB increments
CD Naming: The DNPS (Disc Name Preset) feature can be used to enter names, up to 8 characters long, into memory for up to 10 discs. When a CD changer with disc naming memory is connected, names may be entered for CDs in the changer. The number of names that may be entered for discs in a changer depends on the changer model.
MP3/WMA Playback: This unit can play MP3 and WMA files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. Acceptable bit rates range from 8-320 kbps for MP3 and 48-192 kbps for WMA. Each disc should have a maximum of 8 directory levels, 50 folders, 255 files per folder and 512 total files and folders. During MP3/WMA playback, the following functions are available:
- Folder up/down
- File up/down
- File audible search
- Folder Select: scrolling through the names of folders, you can directly access the folder you want
- Direct File Selection: using the supplied remote control, you can directly access files
- Random Play: all files in a folder are played in random order
- File Repeat Play: repeats the current file
- Folder Repeat Play: repeats the current folder
- File Scan Play: plays the first 10 seconds of each file in a folder
- Pause
- Resume Play: if the unit is shut off or switched to another source while an MP3/WMA CD is playing, the next time CD is selected as the source, playback will resume from the point where it left off
- ID3 Tag Display: displays ID3 Tag information for files that have been recorded with ID3 tag information
Dolby B: Dolby B reduces tape hiss for improved signal-to-noise ratio and better sound quality.
Metal Tape Selector: The Metal Tape Selector provides smoother sound by allowing you to select the proper equalization for playing back metal tapes. When playing Type II (CrO2), Type III (FeCr), or Type IV (Metal) tapes, you should select the "Metal On" mode.
Direct Program Search System (DPSS): This Direct Program Search System rewinds the tape to the beginning of the current track or fast forwards the tape to the beginning of the next track. It does this by detecting the blank spaces between the songs. This feature allows you to skip up to 9 tracks at one time.
Blank Skip: This feature automatically skips blank tape sections longer than 10 seconds, stopping and playing at the next recorded section.
Music Repeat: When playing a cassette, this feature allows you to repeat the current track.
Index Scan: This feature plays the first few seconds of each track on the tape.
CR-2 Tuner: This unit uses Kenwood's CR-2 tuner provides high signal strength for clear radio reception. The tuner incorporates an Automatic Noise Reduction Circuit (ANRC), along with the Clean Reception System Circuit (CRSC), for improved rejection of distortion due to multi-path. You can choose one of three tuning modes: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), or Manual.
Station Name Preset (SNPS): This feature allows you to assign names to radio stations. Up to 30 AM/FM stations can be named. Each name can be up to 8 characters in length.
Switchable Rear Preamp Outputs: The rear preamp outputs can be switched to a non-fading subwoofer output with a low-pass filter. As a subwoofer output, the level can be adjusted from -15 to +15, the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter can be set to Through, 120, 80, or 50Hz. You can also turn the subwoofer output on and off.
Amplifier Management System (A.M.S.): This unit is equipped with an interface (pink/black wire in the wiring harness) which controls certain special features of A.M.S.-equipped Kenwood amplifiers. This unit, when properly connected, can remotely activate and adjust the amount of bass boost in the amplifier. You can choose between +6dB, +12dB, or +18dB bass boost, or flat (no boost). In addition, you can lower the bass boost center frequency by 20%, switching between "Normal" and "Low".
Security Code: You may program the unit with a 4-digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power.
CD Read Setting: If there is a problem with the CD player reading a disc with a special format, you can switch to a second CD Read setting which "forces" the player to read the disc. CD Read setting 1 is for normal CDs and MP3 discs, while CD Read setting 2 cannot read MP3 discs.
Built-in Amplifier Mute: If this unit's internal amplifier is not being used, it can be switched off to enhance the quality of the preamp output signal quality.
Volume Offset Control: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0.
Telephone/Navigation Mute: The audio can be automatically muted when a phone call comes in or during a Voice Guidance announcement from a compatible Kenwood navigation system. The Telephone Mute and Navigation Mute features can be turned on/off in the Function menu. In order for either feature to work, the receiver must be properly connected to the mobile phone or navigation system via the brown "mute" wire in the supplied wiring harness.
Auxiliary Input: The DPX-MP4070 features a rear Auxiliary Input, a pair on female RCA jacks on a 6" pigtail. You can use this input to connect an external audio source, such as a VCR, DVD player, or portable audio device. You can select one of the following names for the source to be displayed when you switch to the Auxiliary Input: Aux, TV, Video, Game, Portable, or DVD. The Auxiliary Input source can be activated or deactivated in the menu. When deactivated, the Auxiliary Input does not appear as a source. With an optional adapter (item 113CAC1AX or 113KCAS220), you can also turn the unit's CD changer input into a second auxiliary input.
Compatibility:
This unit is directly compatible with Kenwood changers manufactured in 1998 or later. If the changer has an O-N switch, the switch will need to be set to the "N" position.Changer Controls: In addition to basic disc navigation features, this unit has the following changer controls: direct disc access (using the remote), direct track access (using the remote), track intro scan, track repeat, disc repeat, disc random, and all disc random.
Disc Name Preset (DNPS): When used with a compatible CD changer, this feature allows you to assign names to discs in the changer. Each name can be up to 8 characters in length. The number of names you can store depends on the CD changer that is connected to the head unit.
