JVC loaded their KD-DV5300 DVD receiver with musical playback options, as well as potential for expandability. You'll find everything you need to enjoy a wide array of musical formats on both CD and DVD.

Load up a CD or DVD with DivX, WAV, MP3, or WMA files for hours of music or video entertainment. JVC's Giga MP3 feature allows you to burn up to 100 hours of music files on a single DVD, so you'll be able to keep a comprehensive library of tunes on a single disc. When you're ready to take advantage of movies in your ride, simply connect a rear seat monitor to the video output to entertain your passengers while you drive.

Music always sounds better when it's backed by power, and the KD-DV5300's internal amplifier cranks out 20 watts per channel for a robust sound. The premium digital-to-analog converter adds depth and realism to your music and movie soundtracks.

For even more musical options, JVC's iPod® adapter allows you to play and control your stored music through the KD-DV5300, or you can add a satellite radio for music, sports, news, talk, entertainment, and more. A front auxiliary input makes it easy to listen to any portable device.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

        • MPEG-1/MPEG-2 Video
        • MP3/WMA/WAV

    Note: Non-compatible discs include: DVD-Audio, DVD-ROM, JPEG/MPEG4 (on DVD or CD), DVD-VR, DVD+VR, Dual Disc (non-DVD side), CD-ROM, CD-I (CD-I ready)

MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-DV5300 can play MP3/WMA files that have been recorded on DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet or Romeo. MP3 and WMA files with a bit rate from 32-320 kbps are supported. Each disc can have a maximum of 5000 files and 250 folders, with a maximum of 999 files per folder.

Front Panel Auxiliary Input: A front panel stereo minijack is provided to allow the connection of a portable audio source. Just connect your portable cassette, MD or MP3 player to this unit, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

Volume Adjust: You can adjust and store volume levels for each source relative to the FM volume level. Each source can be adjusted between -5 to +5 to prevent large differences in volume when switching from source to source.

Custom Equalizer (cEQ): In addition to manual bass and treble settings (-12dB to +12dB @ 100Hz and 10kHz), this unit also has six selectable preset tone control and loudness setting combinations. Each of the sound modes may be adjusted to your preference and stored in memory. The preset Custom Equalizer modes are:

    • Rock: Bass = +3, Treble = +1, Loudness = On
    • Classic: Bass = +1, Treble = -2, Loudness = Off
    • Pops: Bass = +4, Treble = +1, Loudness = Off
    • Hip Hop: Bass = +2, Treble = 0, Loudness = On
    • Jazz: Bass = +2, Treble = +3, Loudness = Off
    • User: Bass = 0, Treble = 0, Loudness = Off

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-DV5300 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

AM/FM Functions: When an FM stereo broadcast is difficult to receive, you can improve reception by switching to FM mono. In the Preferred Settings Menu (PSM), you can set the IF (intermediate frequency) band to improve radio reception. When set to "Auto" the tuner sensitivity is increased to reduce interference noise between adjacent stations. When set to "Wide", sound quality is not degraded and the stereo effect will remain, however, reception is subject to interference between adjacent stations. If you take the receiver to Europe or South America, you can switch the tuning interval from the US standard (10kHz/200kHz) to the European standard (9kHz/50kHz) or South American standard (10kHz/100kHz).

Station Naming: The KD-DV5300 allows you to assign names of up to 8 characters for AM and FM stations (30 station maximum).

Direct Track Access: You can directly access CD tracks 1-12 by pressing the station preset buttons. If a preset button is pressed for less than 1 second, the track corresponding to the number on the preset button is selected (for tracks 1-6). When a preset button is pressed for more than 1 second, the track corresponding to the number above the preset button is accessed (for tracks 7-12).

+10/-10 Button: When selecting CD tracks or an MP3 file within a folder, you can jump ahead or jump back to the nearest track/file number that is a multiple of 10 by using the "+10" or "-10" buttons on the remote. For example, when selecting track/file 32 from track/file 6, you can press the "+10" button three times (>10, >20, >30) to get to 30, then the "track up" button twice (>31, >32) to get to track/file 32.

Compatibility with Optional Input Adapter: An optional JVC Line Input Adapter (item # 105KSU57) or Aux Input Adapter (item # 257KSU58) may be used to provide an additional auxiliary input on this unit. This feature allows you to connect a portable audio player, such as a portable MP3 player, to this unit as an additional audio source. The adapter connects to the CD changer input on this unit. When the adapter is connected to this unit, a CD changer cannot be connected.

Clock Display: While playing a disc, you can switch between the clock display and the CD elapsed time display (the track number always appears). While listening to the radio you can switch between the clock display and the station frequency display. When you press the Display button during power off, the unit will turn on, display the clock for 5 seconds, then shut off. This can be done with the ignition on or off. In the PSM menu, the clock can be set to display with the unit on or off, only turning off when the ignition is turned off ("keyed" operation).

Remote Control: The KD-DV5300 comes with the RM-RK241 wireless remote control. In addition to controlling the DVD/CD receiver, the remote has controls for JVC mobile video monitors, including the KV-MR9010, KV-MH6510, and the KV-M706. The remote can also control connected SIRIUS and XM satellite tuners, as well as Apple iPods and JVC D.Players.

    DVD/Video CD Features

Direct Access: You can directly access any title or chapter on a DVD, and any track on a Video CD. During playback, you can directly access chapters 1 through 6 by pressing preset buttons 1-6, or for chapters 7-12, you can press and hold preset buttons 1-6 for direct access.

Multi-Angle Display: This function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a number of different angles.

Note: This function is limited to DVDs recorded with multiple camera angles.

Monitor Type: You can choose one of the following monitor types:

    • 16:9: select this when the aspect ratio of your monitor is 16:9
    • 4:3 Letter Box: select this when the aspect ratio of your monitor is 4:3. While viewing a widescreen picture, the black bars appear on the top and bottom of the screen.
    • 4:3 Pan Scan: select this when the aspect ratio of your monitor is 4:3. While viewing a widescreen picture, the black bars do not appear; however, the left and right edges of the picture will not be shown on the screen.

Scan Search: When playing a DVD or Video CD, there are five fast-play speeds in both directions (2x, 5x, 10x, 20x, and 60x).

Slow Motion: When playing a DVD or Video CD, there are five slow motion speeds in both directions (1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2).

Repeat Play: When playing a DVD, you can repeat the current chapter or current title. When playing a Video CD, you can repeat the current track or the entire disc.

Random Play: When playing a Video CD, you can play the tracks in random order.

Zoom: When playing DVDs or Video CDs, you can enlarge the picture using the zoom feature. You can choose one of six zoom settings. Once the image is enlarged, you can move the image around on the screen.

Dynamic Range Compression: This function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a setting of Auto or On.

Digital Audio Output: You can choose the type of signal that passes through the optical digital output:

    • PCM Only: choose when connected to an amplifier or decoder that is incompatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, or MPEG audio
    • Dolby Digital/PCM: choose when connected to an amplifier or decoder that is compatible with Dolby Digital
    • Stream/PCM: choose when connected to an amplifier or decoder that is compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, or MPEG audio

    External Device Controls

Optional Interface Adapter for iPod: The optional KS-PD100 adapter (item # 257KSPD100) allows an iPod digital music player with a dock connector to be hooked up to and controlled by the KD-DV5300. You'll be able to scroll through all your playlists, albums, artists, genres, and composers directly from the head unit. Song titles and other file information show up right on the head unit display. The iPod is also charged while it is connected to the KD-DV5300.

Changer Controls: This unit is equipped with JVC's "J-Link" CD changer control system. It is fully compatible with JVC's CD/MP3 changer (257CHX1500). Other JVC CH-X series CD changers (except CH-X99 and CH-X100) can be controlled directly by this head unit, however, they are not compatible with MP3 discs. You cannot use the KD-MK series CD changers with this unit, even with an adapter.

    Inputs and Outputs Notes
