Features

5.1-Channel Input: In addition to the built-in Dolby Digital and DTS processing, this unit also has a 5.1-channel input for use with external multi-channel decoders.

Surround Modes:

  • DTS
  • Dolby Digital
  • Dolby Pro Logic
  • Dolby 3 Stereo: This mode is designed for systems without surround speakers. The unit redirects the surround information to the front left and right speakers.
  • Arena: Simulates the acoustic environment of a large arena.
  • Jazz Club: Simulates the acoustic environment of a jazz club.
  • Theater: Simulates the acoustic environment of a movie theater.
  • Stadium: Simulates the acoustic environment of a stadium.
  • Disco: Simulates the acoustic environment of a disco.

Midnight Mode: The Midnight mode preserves the dynamic range and full intelligibility of a movie sound track, while reducing the volume level. Note: This mode is only available when specially encoded Dolby Digital signals are played.

Speaker Settings:

  • Subwoofer: You can choose a setting of "On" or "Off". When the "Off" setting is selected, the front speakers are automatically set to "Large".
  • Front Speakers: You can choose a setting of "Normal" or "Large". When the "Large" setting is selected, no sound will be sent to the subwoofer, even if it is turned "On".
  • Center Speaker: If the front speakers are set to "Large", you can choose a setting of "Large", "Normal" or "Off" for the center speaker. If the front speakers are set to "Normal", you can choose a setting of "On" or "Off" for the center speaker.
  • Surround Speakers: If the center speaker is set to "Large", you can choose a setting of "Large", "Normal" or "Off" for the surround speakers. If the center speaker is set to "Normal", "Off", or "On", you can choose a setting of "On" or "Off" for the surround speakers.
  • Speaker Volume (Test Tone): Allows you to set the volume level of each channel (Front left, center, front right, subwoofer, surround left and surround right).
  • Front Speaker Distance Setting: May be set from 1-30 feet.
  • Center Speaker Distance Setting: May be set from 1-30 feet.
  • Surround Speaker Distance Setting: May be set from 1-30 feet.

Input Level Adjustment (Analog sources only): If the input level of an analog source signal is too high, you can adjust the input level. The input level can be set to 0dB, -3dB, or -6dB. A clip indicator light will blink when the input level of an analog source is too high.

Input Mode Settings: The CD/DVD, Video 2, and DVD/6ch inputs each include jacks for both digital and analog input. You must select which of the inputs is to be used (factory default is digital). If you select the digital input, you can choose (a) Auto Sound: The unit automatically selects between Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM based on the input signal and the speaker setting, or (b) D-Manual: The user must select between Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM.

Source Direct: For analog sources, you can use this function to pass the signal directly to the amplifier, bypassing any audio processing.

Display Dimmer: The display brightness may be set to one of three levels.

Remote Control

Multibrand Remote: The VR-506 comes with a remote that will control not only the receiver's functions and other Kenwood components, but also many popular brands of audio and video equipment, including DVD players, televisions, cable boxes, VCRs, and DSS receivers.
