About the Kenwood KDC-MPV622
Looking for something different for your dash? How about your choice of 67 colors for the display? That's what you get with the "Color Shock" display on Kenwood's KDC-MPV622 CD receiver. It can cycle through all 67 colors continuously, change color with time of day (every 6 hours), or change color based on your listening source (radio, CD, satellite radio, or CD changer).
Just as the display lets you adjust the visuals, System Q lets you tweak the sound with six preset tone curves, and one that you customize yourself. Plus, you can adjust the sound even further with Kenwood's Speaker Settings feature it tailors the System Q settings based on the size of the speakers in your vehicle.
For audio options, the KDC-MPV622 offers MP3 playback on CD-R and CD-RW, or you can connect your portable music player or other audio source with an optional auxiliary input (see the "Accessories" tab for the required adapter). Add a Kenwood CD changer for multi-disc playback or a SIRIUS satellite radio tuner for 60 streams of commercial-free music. And all that music sounds great, courtesy of the beefy built-in amp (22-watt RMS/50 peak x 4) and Kenwood's Integrated Quad 1-bit D/A converters, which work to cut distortion levels by half.

Note
"Color Shock" Variable Color Display: The display backlight can be changed to any of 67 different background colors. When the display is in Scan Mode, the unit will continually cycle through all background colors. In addition, you may choose SRC Mode or Time Mode. In SRC Mode, the unit displays a different preset background color for each source. In Time Mode, the background color changes every six hours. For easy access to the most popular colors when adjusting the display, this unit has Silky White stored under preset 1, Red stored under preset 2, Blue stored under preset 3, and Blue Green stored under preset 4. In addition to these four factory presets, you can store your favorite color under preset 5.
MP3 Playback: This unit can play MP3 files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. Each disc should have a maximum of 8 directory levels, 50 folders, and 255 files per folder. During MP3 playback, the unit displays any recorded ID3 Tag information.
Note: This unit will not play WMA files recorded on any discs.
Integrated Quad 1-bit D/A Converters: The KDC-MPV622 is equipped with four Digital-to-Analog converters, two for each channel, which improve playback sound quality, musical detail and resolution. Using two D/A converters for each channel cuts distortion by half.
System Q Sound Control: Six EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. The preset curves are named "Flat", "Rock", "Pops", "Easy", "Top 40", and "Jazz". In addition, you may store your own settings under the "User Memory" EQ curve. Each preset has its own bass, middle, and treble level settings.
Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the System Q Sound Control settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of "SP OFF" (flat), "SP O.E.M." (for OEM factory speaker systems), "SP 6*9/6" (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or "SP 5/4inch" (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).
High-pass Filter: The KDC-MPV622 has an adjustable 12dB/octave high-pass filter for the front and rear channels. You can choose the cutoff frequency from 100Hz, 125Hz, 170Hz or Thru (no filter).
Note: The high pass filter only affects the rear preamp outputs when they are switched to "rear", not "non-fading".
Switchable Rear/Non-Fading Preamp Outputs: You can switch the rear preamp output to a non-fading output for use with subwoofer amps. Once in the non-fading mode, you can adjust the level of that output from -15 to +15 in 2dB steps. In addition, you can choose the cutoff frequency of the NF output's 12dB/octave low-pass filter from 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz or Thru (no filter).
Sirius Satellite Radio Controls: This unit can control the optional Kenwood Sirius Satellite tuner (item #113SR901). In addition to the Sirius tuner, you will need an antenna and subscription in order to receive Sirius Satellite Radio programming. The Kenwood Sirius radio tuner has a CD-changer pass-through, allowing the connection of an optional Kenwood CD changer in addition to the Sirius tuner with only one connection to the head unit.
Auxiliary Input "Ready": When used with an optional adapter, this unit can accept input from an auxiliary source. When the CA-C1AUX adapter (item 113CAC1AX) is used, you cannot connect a CD changer to the head unit because the adapter plugs into the DIN changer control connection on the head unit. When the KCA-S210A 2-changer switch (item 113KCAS210) is used, you can connect a CD changer and an auxiliary audio source at the same time. When an auxiliary audio source is connected, you can choose from one of six names for the source: Aux 1, TV, Video, Game, Portable or DVD.
Security Code: You may program the unit with a 4-digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power.
Display Dimming: This unit is equipped with an orange/white wire that Kenwood calls an illumination lead, however, it acts as a dimmer lead. When the illumination wire of this unit is connected to the headlamp circuit of your vehicle, and you turn your lights on, the display will dim to a preset level. The display brightness is not affected by the vehicle's dimmer control.
Contrast Adjustment: The display contrast may be adjusted from "1" up to "10" for optimum readability.
Source Tone Memory: This feature allows you to store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, FM, AM and Changer).
Attenuator With Smooth Volume Return: This unit's attenuator button allows you to quickly lower the volume by a preset level with the press of a button. When the attenuator button is pressed again, the Smooth Volume Return feature gradually increases the volume to the original level, eliminating the jarring change in volume.
Volume Offset Control: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0.
CR-2 Advanced Tuner: This unit uses Kenwood's CR-2 Advanced tuner for clear radio reception. You can choose one of three tuning modes: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), or Manual.
Clean Reception System Circuit (CRSC): This circuit controls multi-path distortion by reducing stereo separation. As stereo separation is reduced, multi-path has less effect on the radio signal, improving reception in areas with tall buildings and mountains. You can turn this feature on/off in the menu.
Direct Access Tuning: When in the Tuner mode, you can directly access a station on the presently tuned band by pressing the Direct button on the remote control and entering the frequency on the remote's number pad.
Station Name Preset (SNPS): This feature allows you to assign names to radio stations. Up to 32 FM stations and 16 AM stations can be named. Each name can be up to 8 characters in length.
CD Naming: The DNPS (Disc Name Preset) feature can be used to enter names, up to 12 characters long, into memory for up to 30 discs. When a CD changer with disc naming memory is connected, names may be entered for CDs in the changer. The number of names that may be entered for discs in a changer depends on the changer model.
CD Read Setting: If there is a problem with the CD player reading a disc with a special format, you can switch to a second CD Read setting which "forces" the player to read the disc. CD Read setting 1 is for normal CDs and MP3 discs, while CD Read setting 2 cannot read MP3 discs.
Last Position Memory: If the unit is shut off or switched to the tuner mode while a CD is playing, the next time CD is selected as the source, playback will resume from the point where it left off.
Disabled System Indicator: A red indicator will blink on the unit after the faceplate is removed, warning potential thieves. This feature can be turned On or Off.
Remote Control: The KDC-MPV622 comes with the RC-505 wireless remote control, a 22-button full-function remote with a 10-key number pad. It is powered by 2 "AA" batteries (supplied). The dimensions of the remote are: L=5.488", W=1.75", D=1.115".
Optional Accessories: This unit is compatible with the following Kenwood accessories:
- Weather Band Tuner: for tuning in weather band stations (113WB100)
- Heads Up Display: flip up display for mounting on dash or visor (113HD100)
- Compass: connects to Heads Up Display--8 or 16 point compass (113CP100)
- Sensor Unit: connects to Heads Up display--Temperature and voltage sensor (113SS100)
Compatibility: This unit is directly compatible with Kenwood changers manufactured in 1998 or later. If the changer has an O-N switch, the switch will need to be set to the "N" position. If you have a Kenwood changer manufactured before 1998, you will need the KCA-S210A switching adapter. Changers manufactured before 1994 require the CA-DS100 converter cord and the KCA-S210A switching adapter.
Disc Name Preset (DNPS): When used with a compatible CD changer, this feature allows you to assign names to discs in the changer. Each name can be up to 12 characters in length. The number of names you can store depends on the CD changer that is connected to the head unit.
Disc Name Preset Play (DNPP): Once a disc has been named, you may press the DNPP button on the remote to display the name of each disc for 5 seconds. When the name of the desired disc appears, you can press the OK button on the remote to select the disc for playback.
CD Text/MD Display: When connected to a CD Text capable CD changer or an MD changer, this unit can display disc and track titles for discs encoded with disc and track title information. The text information can be scrolled manually or automatically.
Music Keg Compatible: The KDC-MPV622 is fully compatible with the Kenwood Music Keg Digital Music System (models KHD-C710 and KHD-CX910).
Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the unit is in Standby mode, the face/button illumination is "keyed". In addition, while the unit is in Standby mode, the Clock Display can be turned on or off using the DISP button. When the Clock Display is turned on and the unit is in Standby mode, the Clock Display is also "keyed". Pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely.
