About the Pioneer DV-656A
The DV-656A's sleek, slim design offers few clues to the outstanding picture and sound quality awaiting lucky owners of this high-performance player. You can select either progressive-scan or interlaced video output to match the capabilities of your TV. Progressive-scan images look exceptionally sharp and clean thanks to PureCinema de-interlacing circuitry until now only found on Pioneer's high-end Elite-series players.
If you have a home theater system, the DV-656A will help you give it a real workout! In addition to built-in Dolby® Digital and DTS® decoding for DVD movie soundtracks, the DV-656A will introduce you to the wraparound fullness and fidelity of DVD-Audio music discs. DVD-Audio offers up to 6 channels of sound with resolution that's better than CD! (It's possible because a DVD holds many times more data than a CD, and nearly all of the space on a DVD-Audio disc is devoted to music.) Those additional channels can be used to place you smack in the middle of the performers, or to re-create the acoustic space of a jazz club or concert hall. DVD-Audio definitely adds a new dimension to music-listening.
Because it's designed to reproduce high-resolution DVD-Audio, the DV-656A sounds superb playing your CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs. It can also handle your ultra-long-playing MP3 discs. If you're ready to raise the realism factor in your A/V system, this is the player for you!

Features
Inputs and Outputs Notes
MP3 Playback: This unit will play MP3 files recorded onto CD-R or CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 format. The DV-656 is compatible with multi-session MP3 discs and can recognize a maximum of 250 folders or 250 tracks.
Audio D/A converter: This unit includes an audio digital-to-analog converter capable of providing 192kHz/24-bit and 96kHz/24-bit resolution. The 192kHz/24-bit and 96kHz/24-bit capabilities of this unit allow it to play DVD Video discs with 96kHz/24-bit audio tracks and DVD Audio discs with sampling rates as high as 192kHz. Note: In most cases to hear the full benefits of the high sampling rate discs, you must use the analog outputs of this unit; the digital outputs will deliver a signal for discs recorded with a sampling rate as high as 96kHz, but most software will not allow a digital output without down converting to 48kHz.
Super Fine Focus Digital Filter: The digital filter improves the quality of the video output by reducing video noise, in this case the horizontal resolution is improved to 540 lines.
Component Video Output: In addition to the composite video and the S-video outputs, this unit is equipped with a set of component video outputs. When connected to a television with a component video input, the component video output of this unit will provide picture color and detail that is superior to video from composite and S-video outputs.
Progressive Video Output: The 54MHz/10-bit video digital-to-analog converter provides either interlaced or progressive video output. A progressive signal is output only through the component video outputs.
Built-In Dolby Digital/DTS Decoding: This unit is equipped with DTS and Dolby Digital decoders. 5.1 multi-channel analog audio outputs are on the rear of the unit and connect to a compatible amplifier/receiver with 5.1 channel inputs. Although multi-channel audio from a DVD-Audio disc can be heard only when this unit's 5.1 channel outputs are connected to a component with 5.1 channel inputs, this unit can be set to down-mix multi-channel audio to stereo audio for playback through a stereo amplifier, TV or other non-multi-channel receiver.
Dolby Digital, DTS and MPEG Audio Compatibility: This DVD player will pass Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM and MPEG digital bitstreams through the digital outputs.
Variable Speed Scanning: When playing a disc there are three fast scanning speeds in both directions. Note: MP3 discs scan at only one fast speed.
Slow Motion Playback: Video can be viewed at four forward slow speeds (1/2, 1/4, 1/8 or 1/16 normal playing speed) and two reverse slow speeds (18 and 1/16). This playback is fairly smooth and noise free.
Frame-by-Frame Playback: Video can be viewed frame-by-frame on DVD and Video CD.
Search: You can search by title, chapter/track, or time (DVD only).
Multi-Angle Function: This function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a number of different angles. Note: This function is limited to DVDs recorded with multiple camera angles.
Repeat Play: You can have the unit repeat a portion of the disc by selecting the starting and stopping points for the section to be repeated (A-B repeat). When playing a DVD, you can repeat the current chapter or title. When playing a Video CD or an audio CD, you can repeat the current track or the entire disc.
Random Play: When playing a DVD, you can play the chapters or titles in random order. When playing a Video CD or an audio CD, you can play the tracks in random order.
Program Play: When playing a DVD, up to 24 chapters and titles can be programmed and played in any order. Up to 24 tracks on a Video CD or an audio CD can be programmed and played in any order.
Aspect Ratio: Depending on the software, you can choose an aspect ratio of 4:3 (pan & scan), 4:3 (letter box), or 16:9 (used when you have a true wide screen TV).
Audio DRC (Audio Dynamic Range Compression): DRC allows you to compress a DVDs dynamic range on Dolby Digital soundtracks so that soft sounds like dialog can be heard more clearly without making loud sounds louder.
TruSurround by SRS: TruSurround simulates multi-channel surround sound using only two speakers.
Zoom: The zoom feature can be used to enlarge any part of the picture by 2x or 4x. Note: Zoom only works with an interlaced video output.
Video Off: The video circuitry can be turned off to lessen any noise when listening to an audio only disc.
Control In/Out: This DVD player has a mini-jack control input and mini-jack control output for use with compatible Pioneer components.Loading...
