About the Sony KP-43HT20
Customers asked for it and Sony delivered: an HDTV-ready Hi-Scan version of their popular 43" tabletop projection TV! (Sony's matching stand raises the KP-43HT20 to the perfect viewing height.)
The KP-43HT20 is barely deeper than a typical 27" TV, yet offers more than 2-1/2 times as much screen area! Another reason this model is such a great fit for small rooms is that you can comfortably watch from as close as 7 feet away. And because this compact 43" model uses the same size picture tubes as larger projection TVs, the picture is extraordinarily bright and clear more like watching an oversized direct-view TV!
Sony's HDTV-ready Hi-Scan design allows you to enjoy spectacular 1080i HDTV broadcasts when you connect a separate HDTV tuner. Plus, the KP-43HT20 is equipped with two Hi-Scan component video inputs, so you can connect and enjoy maximum performance from another video source, such as a progressive-scan or standard DVD player.
The KP-43HT20 makes the most of whatever signal source you feed it. Regular NTSC sources cable and over-the-air TV, satellite TV, DVD, VCR, etc. are upconverted by Sony's Digital Reality Creation circuitry. This powerful technology smooths away horizontal scan lines for a more solid, dimensional picture. DVDs look terrific and even VHS rental movies look noticeably better.
The TV's standard 4:3 screen aspect ratio means that your favorite network shows will fill the screen, same as always. And when you watch widescreen programs like HDTV or anamorphic DVDs, Sony's clever 16:9 Enhanced viewing mode delivers maximum picture quality by concentrating all the scanning lines in a 16:9 "window." Movies look awesome!

Inputs and Outputs
Warranty Note
Hi-Scan 1080i Display (HDTV Receiver Compatible): Two component video inputs allow you to connect an optional HDTV receiver or a source with component video outputs. This television is capable of receiving 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i digital TV formats. However, this unit is not capable of displaying a native 720p format signal. When the 720p format signal is received, it is converted into a 480p format signal.
Cinemotion Reverse 3/2 Pull-Down Technology: This function provides an optimized display by automatically detecting film content and applying a reverse 3/2 pull-down process. Moving pictures will appear clearer and more natural-looking.
16:9 Enhanced Mode (V-Compression): This set uses a special technique that gives you maximum picture quality when using anamorphic sources, such as some DVDs. When using an anamorphic source, the height of each scanning line is compressed for 33% better resolution, giving you the benefit of all 480 scanning lines.
DRC (Digital Reality Creation): Digital Reality Creation allows you to enjoy a very high-resolution picture from any standard NTSC image by using digital processing to turn all NTSC images to 960i resolution, which is approximately 4 times the resolution of a standard NTSC image. This helps to give you a finer, more detailed picture and decrease the visibility of scanning lines by doubling the number of scanning lines and pixels per line. You can select Interlaced mode, which is recommended for moving pictures, Progressive mode, which is recommended for still images and text, or CineMotion mode, which is recommended for 24 frame-per-second films.
3D Digital Comb Filter: Sony's new comb filter analyzes picture information horizontally, vertically and over time. You will get high resolution under most picture conditions. New 10-bit signal processing renders superb gray-scale gradation, resulting in superior picture detail.
Advanced Velocity Modulation Scanning: This system varies the electron beam speed to render high-contrast picture edges more effectively, giving you superior picture detail.
Flash Focus All Digital Alignment System: With the touch of one button, you can converge the picture by aligning the red, green, and blue picture tubes. This allows you to watch a perfectly converged picture without having to spend a long time manually converging the picture or having to call in a service technician.
Microfocus Lens System: The Microfocus Lens System offers a higher level of precision with 1 glass and 3 acrylic lenses, resulting in a flatter plane of focus across the projection screen.
Super Fine Extended Definition Microfocus Picture Tubes: These tubes incorporate smaller phosphor particles and a thinner phosphor layer than Sony's previous Microfocus picture tubes, to achieve a 28% reduction in beam spot size. This translates directly into sharper focus, higher contrast and a brighter image.
Brightview Dual Component Screen: The Brightview dual component screen delivers 10% better color contrast and 30% higher brightness than Sony's previous designs.
First Surface Mirror: Unlike many projection TVs, which require the electron beam to pass through the front surface of the mirror twice, Sony's First Surface Mirror means the beam reflects off only the front surface. This results in improved resolution, brightness and contrast.
Dynamic Focus Circuitry: This system adjusts the picture during each scanning line for consistent corner-to-corner sharpness.
Dynamic Picture Processor: The Dynamic Picture Processor maintains image detail in the very bright and dark areas of each scene.
High Contrast Protective Screen: This television has a screen with a scratch-resistant dark tint surface that increases black level for even more brilliant colors.Twin View: Using the Multi-Image Driver, Twin View allows you to watch two programs side-by-side with the ability to zoom in on one picture and listen to the program in the selected window. You can watch pictures from two different sources (1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) simultaneously.
Channel Index: The Channel Index allows you to view and choose from 12 different programs that are playing simultaneously. The current channel is displayed in a reduced size in the center of the screen while up to 12 other channels appear around the main screen. The smaller images are updated once a second.
Favorite Channel Preview: This feature allows you to preview up to 8 favorite channels without leaving the current channel.
Steady Sound: This feature stabilizes the volume level, preventing unwanted blasts of sound during commercials.
Sound Effects: To enhance the sound, you can select TruSurround, which adds a three-dimensional sound to stereo programs, or Simulated, which adds a surround-like effect to mono-channel programs. The sound effects can be turned off.
Video Mode: You can select Vivid, Standard, Movie, or Pro. The Vivid setting enhances picture contrast and sharpness. The Standard setting displays a standard picture for normal viewing environments. The Movie setting displays a finely detailed picture for low light environments. The Pro setting displays a picture with minimum enhancements.
Freeze Function: This function allows you to temporarily capture a program's picture. The TV switches to Twin View mode and displays the "frozen" picture on the right, while the current program continues on the left. This function only works in normal view mode; if you are in Twin View mode already, it will not work.
Parental Control: V-Chip technology allows you to block unsuitable programming for younger viewers. Blocked programs are protected by a 4-digit password.
Sleep Timer: The sleep timer switches the television off after a specified amount of time. The sleep timer can be set to 15, 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes.
Timers: This unit has two timers that can be set by day, time, duration, and channel.
RM-Y908 Remote: The supplied remote is pre-programmed to operate this unit and a number of functions on other brands of A/V components, including VCRs, DVD players, cable boxes, and satellite receivers. Several controls are located under a lid that covers the top half of the remote. A joystick allows you to move the on-screen selector, making menu navigation simple and efficient. The jump, enter, volume, channel, and numeric keypad buttons glow in the dark (blue).
Left Side Panel (under lid):
- Video 2 Input: stereo RCA jacks, RCA composite video jack and S-video jack
