Crutchfield experts offer a quick look at Samsung's BD-P1500 Blu-ray player in this short video.
Marshall: Hi, I'm Marshall.
JR: And I'm JR, and we're here in the Crutchfield studio talking about the Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray Disc player. You know, there are a lot of high-definition televisions out there, and a lot of them are even 1080p high-definition TVs. With this Blu-ray player, you'll be able to get the best picture possible out of your 1080p TV.
Marshall: That's right, JR. And this is also an upscaling DVD player, so what it's going to do is make your old discs look brand-new and fresh, and give them a quality you've never seen them in before.
JR: So my old discs look good, plus all those new Blu-rays I get are going to look fantastic as well.
Marshall: That's right. You're also going to get great sound quality from this player.
JR: Yeah, it's actually got built-in decoding for two of the new high-resolution audio formats — Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby True HD — which is really nice to have in a player of this price. To get that, all you've got to do is connect it to your receiver with an HDMI cable.
Marshall: And if your receiver doesn't have HDMI input, that's not a problem. All it's going to need is an optical digital connector, and you'll get all of the standard DVD sound.
JR: You know, I love watching the special features on DVDs. You know — director's commentaries, and gag reels, and deleted scenes. Well, those special features can become even cooler on Blu-ray Disc. Like, you could have picture-in-picture director's commentary, so you can watch the director commenting on the movie as you watch the movie. I mean, how cool is that?
Marshall: Those are terrific features. I love that. The other great thing about the player is that it's future-ready. It's hard for this player to become obsolete. It has an Ethernet port that you just connect to your network, and download the latest firmware, and you've got a player that's going to last a long, long time.
JR: Thank goodness, because you know how I feel about obsolete stuff.
Marshall: Oh yeah.
JR: That's the Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray Disc player.
