Samsung's BD-P1600 and BD-P3600 offer solid Blu-ray performance, plus cool extras like streaming movies from Netflix and music from Pandora.

Julie: Hi, I'm Julie.

Steve: And I'm Steve.

Julie: And we're here in the Crutchfield video studio today with Samsung's BD-P1600 and Samsung's BD-P3600 Blu-ray disc players.

Steve: And like most Blu-ray players, these both offer fantastic picture quality. They both provide the highest possible video resolution available, which is 1080p.

Julie: Yeah. They also both have built-in decoding for those high-res audio formats we associate with Blu-ray discs: Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD™ Master Audio Essential.

Steve: And both players also have an Ethernet jack in the back so that for those select Blu-ray titles that have BD-Live content, you can actually go online and download it to the player. There's extras like.

Julie: Games, bloopers, stuff like that. Now there's a feature that we're really excited about with these players. Both of them will let you access the Netflix® "Instant Queue" movies. If you're already a Netflix subscriber you're probably familiar with having a little red envelope show up at your house every few days, but Netflix subscribers also get access to something called "Instant Queue," and those are movies that are available to watch instantly streamed from the Internet.

Steve: Yep. And I'm a huge Netflix, fan but I find that I really don't use the streaming feature that much at home because if it's a movie that I really want to watch I don't want to see it on a small screen.

Julie: So the nice thing is that these players make it possible for you to watch those movies on the best screen in the house.

Steve: Another cool thing about both of these players is that they give you access to Pandora's online music service, and if you're not familiar with that, it's like being able to build your own personal Internet Radio station from scratch. You start by picking music selections, and then it constantly streams more music based on those selections.

Julie: I use Pandora® at home, and I've actually used it to discover a lot of music that I like that's part of the genres I listen to, but that I wouldn't otherwise have come across. But what I particularly like is, by letting Pandora show up on your HDTV, you get to really see this very visual interface that they have that shows album art of the current artist, stuff like that, makes it really easy to click your ratings for the songs you're listening to.

Steve: The Samsung BD-3600 has all of the features of the 1600, but it has three cool extras. First is Wi-Fi®. The 3600 has a Wi-Fi adapter that comes in the box. On the 1600 it's an optional add-on.

Julie: Yep. You also get this really refined, kind of tapered look with the 3600, and we kind of were oohing and aahing over that when we took it out of the box.

Steve: It's really shiny.

Julie: It's very shiny, and this is nice if you have one of the newer Samsung TVs and you're looking for a player that's going to be a cosmetic match with that.

Steve: Yep, and this player also has a 7.1-channel analog audio output on the back.

Julie: Really cool.

Steve: So if you have a home theater receiver that's a few years old that doesn't have an HDMI input, you can still get the fantastic sound on Blu-ray discs by using this analog output.

Julie: And that's great because who wants to get rid of their receiver just because they have a new disc player.

Steve: Right.

Julie: So as you can tell, these players are great for movie lovers and they're pretty great for music fans as well.

Steve: Yep, and if you'd like to learn more about these players, you can go to our website at crutchfield.com/SamsungBDP1600 and crutchfield.com/SamsungBDP3600.
