Malcolm: And I'm Malcolm. Today we're here in the Crutchfield studio to talk to you about the Linksys® by Cisco wireless multi-room music system. This system allows you to play music throughout your home. Tara, you've had a chance to try it out.

Tara: Yeah, I took it home, and it's a really flexible and easy system to use. Getting it started was simple too. It comes with a disc that walks you through each of the different steps of setup, so it only took me about an hour.

Malcolm: Sounds good. The controller I noticed as well is extremely convenient, and very easy to use.

Tara: Yeah. It's pretty cool. It has a touchscreen as well as some hard buttons and a scroll wheel , so selecting songs and playlists was really intuitive.

Malcolm: Well, not only does it let you select the music that you like to hear, but also where you'd like to hear it.

Tara: Yeah, so in my case, I could play the music I liked in my living room while someone else played their favorite song in the kitchen. Or when we're having a party, we could link all the different rooms together and play the same playlist throughout our house.

Malcolm: Nice. Because this connects to your network, there's tons of music sources available.

Tara: Yeah. It can pull music from any computer you have or a networked storage device, and since you're connected to the Internet, you can take advantage of Rhapsody or Internet Radio stations. And Cisco also makes an iPod® dock, so you can pop in an iPod and listen to that music anywhere in your house too.

Malcolm: There's a variety of solutions out there to allow this system to work in any room.

Tara: Yeah. Let's say you already have a home theater system set up or really any room where you have a receiver and speakers, then what Cisco calls the Player is ideal. If you have a room where you don't already have an audio system, you may want to use the Director because it has built-in amplification, and you can get matching stereo speakers for it too.

Malcolm: That's right. There's also the Conductor. This has built in speakers, which allows it to be a little bit more portable. You can move it from room to room or even take it outside with you. All you need to do is plug it into a local power source and you're good to go.
