About the Bose® SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth® speaker

Woody Sherman

Big sound, anywhere you are

There are two essential things you need to know about the Bose® SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth® speaker. First, it's small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. And second, it sounds way, way fuller than it looks. Trust us on this. Its sound will fill a lot of living spaces with room to spare.

The Bose® SoundLink® Min Bluetooth speaker lets you take your music anywhere you are

The Bose® SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth® speaker lets you take your music anywhere you go.

All your entertainment, streaming with Bluetooth® ease

The SoundLink® Mini connects wirelessly to your smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth device, so you can enjoy music from your personal library, thousands of Internet streaming radio stations, or services like Pandora® Internet radio while cueing up songs from your fingertips. The included charging cradle is a nice touch — it lets you keep the speaker charged and ready to grab, so you can slip it into a daypack and have your tunes close at hand anytime.

Unplugged or plugged

The built-in lithium-ion battery gives you up to 7 hours of play time, so the SoundLink® Mini can keep a party going, even unplugged. Or place it on a kitchen shelf in its cradle while you manage your news and entertainment listening from a tablet. All the while, you'll be listening to clearly defined midrange and highs, while enjoying bass response you probably never imagined would come from something this small.

Impeccable build quality

The SoundLink® Mini speaker is engineered with a solid, anodized aluminum housing and skid-proof rubber bottom, so it can stand up to everyday use and sit almost anywhere.

Accessorize for travel

Bose® offers a soft cover in a choice of colors to keep your SoundLink® Mini protected from bumps and scratches (while still looking stylish). And for your on-the-go adventures, you can get a compatible 12-volt car charger or power supply for those times when you're traveling light. You can even get a travel bag to pack your SoundLink® Mini speaker and its companion charger in.

From our review Big performance, small size

I can easily imagine the Bose® SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth® speaker sitting happily in its included charging cradle next to the family's keychains and wallets, waiting for the “grab-and-go” moment on the way out the door. It's ridiculously simple to operate. It requires a tiny footprint — slightly more than your average Hershey bar — and it doesn't need wires. And it delivers a healthy helping of that legendary Bose® listening experience.

Features

Bluetooth (A2DP) Technology: The Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker offers built-in Bluetooth (A2DP) technology which lets you wirelessly connect with many Bluetooth enabled devices; such as your iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, or laptop. You'll be able to wirelessly stream music stored on your device or from music apps on your device; like Pandora, iHeartRadio, MOG, or Spotify. And if you need to multitask, you can keep using your device while you listen to music. Bluetooth wireless technology has a range of approximately 30'. The SoundLink Mini can pair up to six Bluetooth-enabled devices (only one can be active). If you are using a smartphone, a phone call interrupts your audio source and plays through your phone only. When the call ends, your music automatically resumes through the SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker.

Advanced Sound Performance: Proprietary speaker technologies deliver your music in all its clarity with robust sound unusual for a compact, wireless speaker. Its unique driver configuration allows the small, lightweight speaker to reproduce deep, full sound.

Note: For best bass response, the back of the speaker should be placed near a wall, but not directly against a wall. Bass response decreases as the speaker is moved away from a wall. Do not lay the speaker on its back. Sound is emitted from both the front and rear of the unit.

Aluminum Construction: The Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker features a single-piece aluminum cabinet finished in silver with a black mesh grille that is both attractive and durable.

Top-Panel Controls: The SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker features simple-to-use top-panel buttons (Power/Volume/Mute/Bluetooth/Aux). You will control all playback functions of your music from your connected Bluetooth mobile device.

Aux Input: The SoundLink Mini has a side-panel 3.5mm auxiliary input for connecting a external portable audio source other than your Bluetooth-enabled device.

Rechargeable Battery: The SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker is powered by a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. A fully charged battery gives you up to seven hours of continuous playing time in most situations. The included charging cradle & AC power adapter recharges the battery and serves as a convenient home base for the speaker, and it lets you play while it charges. An empty battery usually takes three hours to charge. The battery light shows green when the battery is charged between 70-100%. Yellow indicates a charge between 20-70%. And red means the battery is less than 20% charged.

Note: If a connected device stops playing audio for 30 minutes, the speaker automatically turns off to conserve battery power.

AC Power Adapter: You can also plug the included AC power adapter directly into the SoundLink Mini to power the Bluetooth speaker by standard household current.

 • Input: 100-240V~ 50/60Hz, 360mA
 • Output: 12VDC, 0.833A Max

mini-USB Connector: The unit's mini-USB (type-B) port is designed for downloadable software updates that may be available in the future. By registering this product, you will automatically be notified of any necessary updates.

Optional Bose Accessories: You can add a soft cover (018SLMCRVB, sold separately) to the speaker; available in a variety of colors. You can also purchase a convenient travel bag (018SLMTBBK, sold separately). The Bose SoundLink Mini Car Charger (018SLMCHRG, sold separately) lets you charge the Bluetooth speaker through your vehicle's 12-volt/cigarette lighter port.

Q
can this be use as a car speakers?
mike Aug 05, 2015
4 answers
A
It's not ideal for that. It may be difficult to hear if you hear a lot of road noise in your car when you are at highway speeds. You are better off with a car sound system.
eddie Aug 05, 2015
A
Sure. It is a battery powered Bluetooth speaker and will work anywhere...including a car. Of course, you need to use a Bluetooth capable phone for wireless functionality. For non-Bluetooth devices there is a auxiliary audio input. The speaker will play for about 7 hours (depends on volume) before it needs to be charged again. However, Bose does sell a car charger that would allow you to run the speaker off the car's auxiliary power port or cigarette lighter port. Hope this helps.
louis Aug 05, 2015
A
I have used mine on the road several times, since I don't have Bluetooth in my car audio system. I stream music to it from an iPhone. However, I don't have a car charger, so I have to stop somewhere at night to charge it from 120VAC.
edward r. Aug 05, 2015
A
yes,it can, however,be aware that this speaker ,the volume can go up high. You might want to get some type of anchor to keep the speaker in place in your car.

First, love the fact you think big. Secondly, that's a question for Bose direct. They'll have the specifics on Bluetooth address and frequency sharing. Good luck!

Q
How long is battery life? Why with a full charge does it shut off at high volume? Unit is 14 months old
doug Mar 24, 2015
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The rechargeable battery lasts up to 7 hours. It will not last this long at high volumes and there is not a listing for battery life at max volume. As for cutting off, that would need to be troubleshooting with a technical support specialist from the place of purchase or Bose. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
does this speaker charge my bluetooth phone while in use?
jennifer Dec 30, 2014
8 answers
A
There is no dock on this speaker, so no. It has some very decent bass response, and okay highs, but it seems, to my ear, to be lacking some in the midrange. It's a very nice little portable speaker but if you're looking to recharge your phone while listening, you might want to look elsewhere.
sabrina Dec 31, 2014
A
No, the Bose SoundLink does not provide a charging port.
edward r. Dec 31, 2014

No
wayne Dec 31, 2014

Not by any means I'm aware of. Certainly not through the air via Bluetooth. There might be a cable arrangement, but nothing I've explored.

Not that I know of Jennifer. Chrutchfield has great customer service and tech support. I've called them before I ordered product and they were very knowledgeable. This Bluetooth speaker sounds great!
steven Dec 31, 2014
A
Hi Jennifer m, I bought the Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker for my daughter and she has it at college. It is awesome. I can't examine it, but I know the answer to your question is "No." The only connectivity the speaker supports between itself and your phone is via wireless bluetooth or via a 3.5 mm audio cable. Neither of these methods provide charging of your phone. As an aside, the speaker can be used on battery power or continuously powered by its provided AC adaptor charging cradle (You can also charge the speaker directly without the cradle). There is a micro USB port. But, that is for connecting the SoundLink mini to a computer to update its software...not to charge a phone. Hope this helps. Mr. Luigi
louis Dec 31, 2014
A
No. The mini itself doesn't charge phones. However, with bluetooth, you can be charging your phone with your regular charger and listen on the speaker simultaneously. I love this speaker -- it is a great size with fantastic sound!
suzanne Dec 31, 2014
A
The speaker does not charge bluetooth phone while in use.

I really don't know... Sorry.
ruby Dec 05, 2014
A
Frank A: I do not have a definitive answer for you for that question. I do know the SoundLink Mini connects and plays very well on my IPhone 5s, Apple Ipad, numerous Apple Ipods and my neighbors android smart phone. I can say that I have tried on numerous occasions to play my ITunes music on my Dell windows 8.1 laptap to no avail. The Bose mini will pair and connect to the laptop, but no sounds comes out of the mini. After spending telephone time with Bose support, who by the way were very accommodating and friendly, I was instructed that I needed to contact Dell support and find out if my laptop is A2DP compliant I have not done so. With that information, I still cannot definitively answer your question.
ronald f Dec 05, 2014
A
It should. However I'm using iPhone and iPod to connect via Bluetooth to it.

No, it is not waterproof. I have used it camping many a time, but you do not want to leave it in the rain or out over night where it may get covered with dew.

no the control buttons are on top and not sealed
myron Aug 14, 2014

I'm pretty certain it isn't. I've never dunked it in water, but I think the battery is exposed on the bottom, so you wouldn't want to get water on it.

Yes Italia can.
angel a Jun 24, 2014
A
It should if the device is Bluetooth capable.
mark a Jun 23, 2014
A
Hi Catherine, yes you could, any 3.5mm plug would work through the aux input in the back of unit, but u would have to set the volume on the iPod 1st, bcoz the speaker will distort if the volume is set too high on the ipod. hope this helps..
frank Jun 21, 2014
A
Yes, it has AUX port so you can connect with a hard wire if you need to. Of course Bluetooth devices work too!
doug Jun 20, 2014
A
Catherine... Bluetooth - not the specific device - is the common denominator here. If your device is Bluetooth-capable, then it will get along fine with the SoundLink. In my home, I've paired it with my PC/laptop, iPhone and Android phone. All work perfectly within the distance limits of Bluetooth technology. Hope this helps.
darren Jun 20, 2014

I connect the speaker to my iPod, iPhone or MacBook either by Bluetooth or by a wire with mini jacks at each end. Works great!
alexander Jun 20, 2014
A
I bought this for my wife for Christmas. She uses it all over the house and on our patio for music from her IPAD using bluetooth. She HATES the stereo - "too complicated!" She loves it! I use it with my IPOD Classic (no bluetooth on that model) and use a short cable from the earphone plug on the IPOD to the BOSE. It works GREAT. I may buy one for myself I like it so much!
thomas Jun 20, 2014
A
It connects via Bluetooth, so the device must have Bluetooth in order to connect. Does not have to be an apple product. If your device does not have Bluetooth, you can still connect using a cable.
brian Jun 20, 2014
A
Yes, we have connected it via bluetooth to an iPod, three tablets and a HTC smartphone. There is also an aux jack input that I have used with an older mp3 player. So far, we haven't tried anything that won't connect and work well!
michael Jun 20, 2014
A
Yes it can by either Blue Tooth or by wire into the earphone jack.
harry Jun 20, 2014
A
Yes, you can either pair it to the iPod or mp3 with the Bluetooth or use the 3.5mm jack on the side of the Bose which will utilize your 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack on your iPod or mp3 player.

Can this be used with a Television that is not a Bluetooth Television and is it good for listening to the spoken word such as Television News?

Yes if d TV has an auxiliary external output
david Jan 02, 2014
A
I really don't know. You might want to ask a Crutchfield advisor.
salvatore Dec 31, 2013
A
Yes. As long as the TV has an audio output that can connect to the 3.5mm input on the sound link.
eddie Dec 31, 2013
A
It can be used with a tv with a male male ended cord. It is not ideal to use with a tv because it will slightly distort at a high volume. Spoken word will work well.
andrew r Dec 31, 2013
A
It is primarily used as a bluetooth devise but it does have an input jack for alternative sources. 1/8 plug like a ipod headphone jack. If your TV has an 1/8 output it would work. It sounds great for such a small devise... We love it!! Steve

Only if Bose makes a car charger. The charger that comes w unit isn't USB mini it's a proprietary charger.
eric Dec 19, 2013
A
Haven't tried it, but I'd also like to know if it's possible.
suzanne Dec 19, 2013
A
Yes, you can. Crutchfield sells the car charger -
robin Dec 18, 2013
A
Yes, you can use it with the car charger which Bose sells for the unit. But as I noted in my post, there doesn't seem to be a universal car charger you can buy that can provide all the different plug types and voltages which different mobile devices need. So the Bose charger will add to the spaghetti mess in your glove compartment!
edward r. Dec 18, 2013
A
Yes Bose makes one for the mini
barbara Dec 18, 2013
A
Apparently you can there is a 12v car charger that Crutchfield sells.

Yes you can, I do it all of the time. It is one of the best speakers I have ever owned.

Yes. I do not use one, but I have a friend that does.

Q
Does the device have to be in the cradle to charge or can it charged using the jack on the side?
frank Dec 09, 2013
10 answers
A
This device can be charged using the cradle or by just plugging in the charging cord to the speaker itself. So you have both options and that is just one of the great aspects of this speaker. It is so versatile because of its size. And it has a great sound and fantastic battery life. Recharge is quick and easy using either method. I highly recommend this Bose speaker.
ronald f Dec 09, 2013
A
No, it can be charged using the jack.
ruby Dec 09, 2013
A
It can be charged on the cradle or with the side jack. I find it more convenient to use the cradle.
pierangelo Dec 09, 2013
A
Yes, the jack on the side can be used to charge the speaker. I leave the device charging on the cradle and take it when I need it. It's an excellent little speaker! Very good sound, good battery life and wonderfully portable.
alexander Dec 09, 2013
A
I have never put it in the craddle and always have charged it directly using the jack. Honestly I don't know what the craddle is for and it has been sitting in the box since I bought the excllent device.
angel a Dec 09, 2013
A
I did not like the sound.
dineia Dec 09, 2013
A
Yes you can charge without the cradle. Just plug in the power cord into the bottom hole on the right side of the speaker.
reginald Dec 09, 2013
A
i dont know. But the device is well made.
rafael Dec 09, 2013
