Features
Overview: The Azentek SmartMirror (SM450) is an OEM replacement rear-view
mirror with an integrated Navigon GPS Receiver/Navigator. The SmartMirror has a
standard 6-1/2" x 2" mirror, plus a 4" (diagonal) touchscreen color LCD for the
navigation receiver. The SmartMirror comes with a built-in, flip-up GPS antenna,
as well as an external magnetic GPS antenna. In addition, the unit includes
Bluetooth technology for hands-free calling, and 2 composite video inputs for
reverse camera input.
Processor/Operating System: The SmartMirror utilizes the Samsung
S3C2440A 400 MHz processor with a 64 MB internal memory. It is built on the
Windows CE .NET 4.2 operating system.
SD Card Slot: On the right side of the unit is a slot for an SD Memory
Card for storing maps, pictures, and e-books. A 2 GB SD card containing detailed
map information and navigation software is included with the unit. Saved
destinations, routes, and logbook entries are saved on the card.
4" LCD Touchscreen: The unit's 4" LCD touchscreen has a resolution of
480 x 272 pixels. You can adjust the backlight brightness to any of 10 levels,
plus independently set day and night brightness. A stylus is included for
accurate screen navigation. It is stored in a slot on the side the SmartMirror.
Reverse Camera Input: The SmartMirror has two composite video inputs
(female RCAs) for use with a rear-view camera. The included reverse-gear
detection wire, when connected into the back-up light circuitry, will
automatically switch the 4" LCD screen to the rear-view camera input when the
vehicle is put into reverse gear.
Temperature Extremes: The unit is designed to withstand the following
temperature extremes:
- Operating Temperature: 32° F to 140° F (0° C to 60° C)
- Storage Temperature: -65° F to +150° F (-54° C to + 65° C)
Navigation
GPS Navigation: The Global Positioning System (GPS) is based on a
total of 24 satellites that circle the earth and are constantly transmitting
their position. The GPS receiver uses this data and calculates its own
geographical position. When data from at least three satellites is obtained, the
unit can sufficiently calculate your position. With the data of 4 or more
satellites, the altitude above sea level can also be ascertained. The GPS
receiver has an accuracy of about 3 yards.
Navigon: The Azentek SmartMirror features the Navigon Mobile Navigator
6.5 with voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions, including spoken street names
via text-to-speech. The unit uses the Samsung Sirf-III 16-channel GPS receiver,
and the Samsung S3C244OA-400 MHz processor. The navigator offers intuitive
menus, as well as 2D and 3D maps.
Loaded Maps: The SmartMirror contains maps for the United States
(including Alaska and Hawaii), Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Main Window: The Main Window opens when the navigation software stars,
providing you the following options:
- New Destination: You can select an address by city or street
name, or select a point of interest (POI) by name or by tapping on the map.
- My Destination: You can select a destination from a list of saved
destinations, or from a recently entered destination.
- Take Me Home: You can specify your home address as a destination,
and quickly create a route back to your home address from your present
location.
- Show Map: You can simply let the GPS receiver show your location
on the current map as you travel.
Auto-Complete: When typing in a destination using the on-screen
keyboard, the unit will begin sorting locations as you enter letters. After you
type the first letter, the largest city in the selection area appears. Once you
type in a second letter, the list shows all map areas that begin with the typed
letters. The more letters you enter, the shorter the list becomes, until the
desired location appears.
Points of Interest (POIs): The SmartMirror's GPS receiver has millions
of points of interest, which are useful address that are organized according to
particular criteria. POIs include airports, restaurants, hotels, gas stations,
government offices, banks, hospitals, shopping centers, etc. Icons representing
the POIs can be displayed on the map. You can search for POIs in the following
areas: nearby, nationwide, in a city, or by direct access. For many POIs, there
will be additional information available, including telephone numbers, stored in
the navigation system's database.
Preplanned Routes: With the SmartMirror, you can preplan routes with
multiple route points, and save them for later use. Once you have entered a
starting point, you can enter addresses, POIs, previously saved destinations,
and "home" in the order you desire. Once all of the route points are entered,
you can delete or re-order the route points as you wish. You can save each
planned route under a particular name.
Route Simulation: You can use the built-in GPS simulator to view a
route. You can view the route turn-by-turn without the need for GPS signal
reception.
Navigation Mode: During navigation the SmartMirror's touchscreen
indicates the route to follow in orange with your current position indicated
with an orange arrow. Additional map details include:
- Signpost: A representation of the highway sign to be followed in
displayed at the top of the screen.
- Speed Limit: The posted speed limits are displayed (where
available) in the upper left.
- Next Maneuver(s): An arrow pointing the direction of your next
turn, along with the remaining distance to the junction is displayed on the
left side. As you get closer to the junction, a series of orange dots begin
appearing beside the arrow. The nearer you get to the junction, the more
dots are displayed. When two maneuvers need to be executed in quick
succession, a small arrow field indicating the direction of the second
maneuver is displayed above main arrow.
- Traffic Lanes: If you are traveling on a multi-lane highway, the
best lane to be followed will be indicated near the current position arrow.
- Current Speed/Elevation: Your current speed and the elevation
above sea level is indicated at the top right of the screen. The unit can be
set to warn you when you exceed the posted speed limit by 5, 10, or 15 MPH.
- Distance/Time to Destination: The remaining distance to the
destination, the estimated duration of the trip, and the estimated time of
arrival are shown on the right side of the screen. If you are navigating a
route with several stages, you will also see the remaining distance,
estimated duration and estimated time of arrival for the next interim
destination in the "Next" field.
- Current/Next Street Name: At the bottom of the screen are two
bars along the bottom of the screen. One indicates the name of the current
street/road on which you are traveling. The other indicates the name of the
next street or road you will be traveling on.
Reality View/Lane Assist: During navigation, when you approach a
highway junction, the map changes to Reality View, which shows the signposting
and lanes you must follow (where available). Once you pass the junction, the
screen changes back to Navigation Mode.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth 1.2: The Azentek SmartMirror is equipped with Bluetooth 1.2
technology, allowing you to make and receive phone calls on your
Bluetooth-compatible phone. The front of the mirror has an "Answer" button, a
"Hang Up" button, and a "Bluetooth Pair" button.
Caller ID: When receiving a call, the incoming caller ID information
will display on the LCD screen. In addition, a call history log is saved in
memory.
Microphone: The SmartMirror includes a microphone with a self-adhesive
base for use with Bluetooth. For best results, it should be mounted within 2
feet of the driver's head.
Installation
Mounting: The SmartMirror is designed to replace most OEM rear-view
mirrors. It is packaged with a universal wedge style mount for attaching to the
windshield. A screw wedge mount, as well as a screw-less wedge mount are
provided. A camlock mount, generally found on vehicles manufactured outside of
the US, is sold separately by the manufacturer.
Installation Advisory: Azentek does not recommend installing this
mirror if your vehicle has airbag sensors in the headliner area, or if the
vehicle is equipped with OnStar. If your vehicle's mirror is mounted within the
windshield, not stuck on like the wedge or camlock style mount, detachment is
not recommended. If your windshield wipers have a sensor mounted in your
rearview mirror, installation of this mirror will deactivate that function.
Installation Difficulty: Installation of the SmartMirror is
recommended for a professional, or an advanced do-it-yourselfer. In addition to
physically mounting the mirror to the windshield, you must route wires through
the headliner, and make connections for constant and switched power, ground, and
reverse-gear detection.
