About the Eclipse CD5030

Zak Billmeier

Built for superb sound

No need to buy an adapter — built-in Bluetooth connectivity means you can make hands-free calls with your compatible phone. When a call comes in, the receiver mutes your music so you can answer the call and hear your caller over your speakers. You can keep your hands on the wheel while you talk.

Built for superb sound

your description goes here

Eclipse built the CD5030 CD receiver to be a serious tone machine. Its powerful internal amplifier does your tunes justice, and you can tweak the sound to your taste with the 7-band parametric equalizer. High-power, 5-volt preamp outputs send a strong, noise-free signal to your amps and subs. Built-in filters let you send your speakers and subs the frequencies they were designed to handle.

Built-in Bluetooth® for hands-free calls

No need to buy an adapter — built-in Bluetooth connectivity means you can make hands-free calls with your compatible phone. When a call comes in, the receiver mutes your music so you can answer the call and hear your caller over your speakers. You can keep your hands on the wheel while you talk.

iPod compatibility

Connect your iPod®, plus other playback options

Connect your iPod to the USB slot, and you can browse your playlists, albums, and artists on the receiver's display. Put your MP3 and WMA files on a recordable CD or a USB thumb drive for hours of tunes — you'll even see song info on the display. A handy rear auxiliary input lets you play a portable MP3 player, satellite radio, or another source.

System-building options

Add an HD Radio™ tuner and hear what you've been missing on digital radio. Listen to an HD Radio station with your iPod attached, and you can "tag" the songs you like with the push of a button. You'll be reminded to buy them from the iTunes® store the next time you sync your iPod with your computer. You can also add a satellite radio tuner to tap into the almost endless variety of entertainment, or hook up a CD changer.

Bluetooth note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check Hands-on Research for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

    Display Features

Display and Button Illumination: The CD5030 features a black and white OEL (organic electro-luminescent) display panel. The front panel buttons are backlit and can be set to glow Red or Blue. If the accessory power is on, the unit is turned off, and the clock is turned on in the menu; the display turns off (the clock stays on) but the buttons and rotary knob stay backlit. When the unit is on and voltage is applied to the illumination wire the display dims, but the button backlighting remains unchanged.

Customizable Display: The unit gives you a choice of display patterns or you can import your own images. You can choose from two Motion Picture options, two spectrum analyzer displays, a standard black background, or the display can be turned off. Using the E-iSERV website, you can download other display data and applications for creating motion pictures. Images are loaded onto a CD-R or USB drive and imported to the head unit.

ESN Security: The CD5030 is equipped with ESN (Eclipse Security Network). A music CD, called the Key CD, is registered to the unit. If you have to disconnect the battery, or remove the radio from constant power, you will need to re-insert the Key CD in order for the radio to function again.

    Audio Section

High-volt Preamp Outputs: The CD5030 features three sets of 5-volt, low-impedance (55Ω) preamp outputs, including a non-fading output for a subwoofer. The outputs are affected by the crossover settings (see below).

Sound Adjustment Modes: The CD5030 is equipped with several sound adjustment features:

    • Parametric EQ: The 7-band parametric EQ allows more accurate tonal adjustment than typical bass and treble controls or a graphic equalizer. There are four preset EQ curves, which can be overwritten by your own settings on Preset Buttons 1-4. You can adjust the level of each frequency band from -10dB to +10dB. You can also choose one of five Q Curve patterns (bandwidth): Wide, Mid-wide, Normal, Mid-Narrow, and Narrow. The bands include the following frequencies (default underlined):
      • Band 1: 63 Hz, 80 Hz, 100 Hz
      • Band 2: 125 Hz, 160 Hz, 200 Hz
      • Band 3: 250 Hz, 315 Hz, 400 Hz, 500 Hz
      • Band 4: 630 Hz, 800 Hz, 1 kHz, 1.25 kHz
      • Band 5: 1.6 kHz, 2 kHz, 2.5 kHz, 3.15 kHz
      • Band 6: 4 kHz, 5 kHz, 6.3 kHz, 8 kHz
      • Band 7: 10 kHz, 12.5 kHz, 16 kHz
    • Auto EQ: With the optional MEI-100 microphone, you can automatically measure the frequency characteristics of your vehicle, and store the optimum EQ settings into the head unit's memory.
    • Time Alignment: The delay time and level of the sound from each speaker can be adjusted in order to correct phase mismatches in the sound resulting from the listening position. The delay time can be adjusted from 0 to 10.0 ms for each of the four speakers and the subwoofer (non-fader). With the optional MEI-100 microphone, you can automatically set the time alignment.
    • Position Selector: You can adjust the sound field to the listener's seat position. You can select from the following: Front, Rear, Front-Right, or Front-Left.
    • Crossover: The crossover allows you to independently apply a low pass filter to the non-fading (subwoofer) outputs and a high pass filter to the front and rear outputs (line-level and speaker-level). You can choose from 23 frequencies between 63 Hz and 10 kHz for the front and rear, and from 11 frequencies between 20 Hz and 200 Hz for the subwoofer. The slope of the crossover can be set to "Pass", 6 dB/octave, 12 dB/octave, 18 dB/octave, or 24 dB/octave.
    • Non-fader: The output of the non-fader (subwoofer) output can be set to stereo or mono, the phase can be set to normal or reverse, and the output level can be adjusted from -6 to +6.
    • Multi-Harmonizer: The Multi-Harmonizer uses harmonic synthesis to restore high frequencies that are lost as a result of the compression process. When you are playing MP3/WMA or USB memory files, you can set the Multi-Harmonizer to High, Low, or Off.
    • Loudness: The loudness control may be turned on to emphasize low and high frequencies at low volume levels. When selected, the loudness contour provides a +7dB boost at 50Hz and a +5dB boost at 10kHz.

Source Volume Controls (SVC): Because the level of each source can vary, the Source Volume Controls allow you to raise or lower the volume of AM radio, CD audio, and any external source compared to the FM radio signal. The volume differences can be set within a range of -10 to +20.

    AM/FM Tuner

Radio Band Switching: If you wish to take the receiver out of the country, the tuner frequencies and interval can be switched on any of four possible regions:

    • USA:
      • FM: 87.75-107.9 MHz (0.2 MHz step)
      • AM: 530-1710 kHz (10 kHz step)
    • Asia (includes Europe):
      • FM: 87.5-108.0 MHz (0.05 MHz step)
      • AM: 522-1629 kHz (9 kHz step)
    • Australia:
      • FM: 87.5-108.0 MHz (0.1 MHz step)
      • AM: 522-1710 kHz (9 kHz step)
    • Latin America:
      • FM: 87.75-107.9 MHz (0.1 MHz step)
      • AM: 530-1710 kHz (10 kHz step)
    CD Playback

MP3/WMA Playback: The CD5030 can play MP3 and WMA files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs in ISO 9660 Level 1 and 2. Recommended bit rates are 64-320 kbps for MP3 and 48-320 kbps for WMA (Variable bit rates are supported). The receiver can recognize a total of 511 files, 255 folders, and 8 directory layers on a single disc. The receiver can show the names of albums and artists from and ID3 and WMA tags.

    External Device Connection

Bluetooth: The CD5030 has built-in Bluetooth technology, allowing you to integrate Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and audio players. Bluetooth is a two-way wireless communication system allowing you to make and receive cell phone calls, and listen to a Bluetooth audio device. The unit comes with a microphone that you can clip to your visor to pick up your voice for hands-free calling.

    • Phone: Up to five phones can be registered with the CD5030. It can automatically connect to a registered phone whenever the phone comes within range. Once the phone connection is made the head unit stays in phone standby mode, and is ready to receive calls while you listen to other sources. You can dial out using your phone book, call history, or dial directly using the CD5030 or the phone's keypad. Six numbers can be saved and dialed using the radio preset buttons. You can answer incoming calls manually or automatically.
    • BT Audio: Bluetooth equipped audio players are supported. You can connect wirelessly and listen to the player.
    • Supported Versions and Profiles:
      • Bluetooth Specification: Ver.2.0
      • Power Class 2 (Max + 4dBm)
      • A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile): Version 1.0
      • AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile): Version 1.0
      • HFP (Hands Free Profile): Version 1.5
      • OPP (Object Push Profile): Version 1.1

USB Music File Player: The unit can play MP3 and WMA files loaded onto a USB Memory device (USB mass storage class). Supported file systems include FAT 12/16/32. Recommended bit rates are 8-320 kbps for MP3 and 48-320 kbps for WMA. Variable bit rates are also supported. The receiver can recognize a total of 3000 files and 699 folders on a single USB memory.

Note: The USB port can be used as a Direct iPod Connection. See "External Device Controls" section below for details.

iPod Direct: You can enjoy music from your Apple iPod when it's connected to the head unit via the optional iPod iPC-109 Direct Cable (099IPC109, sold separately), which is an automotive version of the iPod/USB cable that came with your iPod. Of course, you can use your own iPod cable, if desired. When connected, the iPod is controlled (and charged) by the head unit. You can search for music by playlist, artist, album, songs, podcasts, audiobooks, and genres. Playback functions include track up/down, fast forward/rewind, track repeat, and random play. The headunit supports the following iPod/iPhone functions when connected to the optional iPC-109 Direct cable (as of Dec. 2009):

HD Radio Ready: The CD5030 is compatible with the optional HDR109 HD Radio Tuner (099HDR109, sold separately). When the HDR109 is connected, you can enjoy your same FM and AM stations with digital sound quality, as well as stations with sub-channels (multicasting). The CD5030 and HDR109 also support iTunes tagging. Information for songs you "tag" is transferred to your iPod when it is connected so you can purchase the desired tracks from iTunes.

Auxiliary Input: A stereo RCA auxiliary input on an 8" pigtail is located on the back of the unit. The aux input can be turned off in the menu, so you don't have to toggle past it when you change inputs when there's nothing connected. A second auxiliary source can be added using the optional AUX105 Aux cord (099AUX105, sold separately), plugged into the E-LAN connector on the rear panel. If the AUX105 is used, you cannot add a CD changer, HD Radio tuner, or satellite radio tuner.

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional satellite radio tuner to this receiver:

    • SIRIUS Satellite Radio: To receive SIRIUS Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional SiriusConnect tuner with the Eclipse Sirius Connect adapter (package item number 700SIRECLi).
    • XM Satellite Radio: To receive XM Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional CNP2000UC XM Mini Tuner and the Eclipse CNP-ECL1 adapter cable (package item number 700XMECL1).
    • Auxiliary Input: A portable satellite radio receiver, such as the Delphi SkyFi3 or SIRIUS Sportster 5, can be connected to the head unit via an auxiliary input.

Changer Controls: The CD5030 can control up to two Eclipse CH3083 8-disc CD changers (099CH3083, sold separately) through its E-LAN Bus connector. The CH3083 CD changer has a E-LAN pass-through input for the second changer, so no special adapter is needed. When an optional CD changer is connected, the CD5030 has the following controls: Track Skip, Disc Skip, Fast Forward/Fast Reverse, Track Intro Scan, Disc Intro Scan, Track Repeat, Disc Repeat, Disc Random, All Disc Random, and Direct Disc Select.

    Remote Control

Remote Control: The CD5030 comes with a wireless remote control. With the remote you can access the following functions: Power, Mode, Volume Up/Dn, Source select (Disc/Tuner/Aux), Band select, Mute, Preset Channel Up/Dn, Disc Up/Dn, Track Up/Dn, and Tune/Seek Up/Dn.

Steering Wheel Remote: Through the special E-iSERV website from Eclipse, you can download software that enables factory steering wheel remote operation of the CD5030. This software is burned to a CD-R and imported into the receiver. Two wires (brown/black and brown) in the supplied wiring harness need to be connected to factory wiring in order for steering wheel remote commands can operate.

Note: Depending upon the vehicle's make and model, not all downloaded material may be compatible with steering wheel remote functions.
