JVC

Our take on the JVC KW-NX7000

JVC's KW-NX7000 double-sized DVD receiver fits perfectly in the double-sized dash opening in many popular cars. You get DVD and CD playback, and an internal flash memory that brings up your navigation maps of North America quickly when you need them. You'll see turn-by-turn directions on the 7" screen and enjoy access to over 12 million points of interest, which you can update through the SD™ card slot.

You'll get plenty of entertainment options with the KW-NX7000. You can play your favorite collections of music in MP3, WMA, WAV, or AAC format, either burned onto a disc, through the USB input, or on an SD card. Add the optional adapter and connect your iPod® as well. The powerful amplifier adds punch and definition to your music, and a 24-bit digital-to-analog converter provides outstanding audio clarity. You can tweak the sound to your liking with the 7-band equalizer.

Amplified system
The KW-NX7000 will accommodate an extensive amplifier/sub setup, with three sets of gold-plated preamp outputs and subwoofer level/frequency controls for tonal fine-tuning. You can add video sources or additional monitors to your in-vehicle entertainment system using the RCA video inputs and outputs, and you'll find an optical connection for an optional surround sound processor.

Expansion possibilities
JVC designed the KW-NX7000 to be expandable. With JVC's optional Bluetooth adapter, you can make hands-free calls using your compatible phone while you hear the conversation over your vehicle's speakers. The optional HD Radio™ tuner gives you access to the improved sound quality and extra programming choices that are becoming increasingly available. You can control a JVC satellite radio on the receiver's screen with an optional adapter.

Detachable face
You can remove the detachable face — an unusual feature with double-sized receivers — to add an extra measure of security when the car is parked.

The monitor's brightness can be adjusted from -5 to +5. You can detach the touch-screen LCD monitor and place it in its supplied soft face case to prevent theft.

Display Angle: The motorized display can be tilted (up) to one of seven angles.

Wallpaper: You can choose from four background wallpapers; Metal, Sky, Bright and Plain. The wallpaper color can be changed from blue, light-blue, red, orange, yellow, green, purple, dark-blue, dark-green, brown, light-brown or black.

Menu Language: There are nine options for the menu language; English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, and Russian.

MOS-FET Amplifier: The JVC KW-NX7000 features a MOS-FET amplifier that is CEA-2006 compliant and rated at 20 watts RMS x 4 channels in 4-ohm and 1% THD+N with a signal to noise ratio of 80 dBA.

When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

JVC KW-NX7000

Written By Brittani, Tallahassee, FL on Tuesday, September 30, 2008

I got this gps system a couple months ago and overall I really like it. The navigation works really well. The only problem that I have with it is the ipod interface. It is really hard to look for a song and it takes a lot more time than I'm used to (which isn't very safe when you are trying to keep your eyes on the road). The system really sounds good and it has taken my factory speakers to a better level. This system is a bit confusing when you are first trying to use it but overall it is a really good system.

Could've Been Better, but Packs A Punch!

Written By Bernard, Suffolk, NY on Thursday, September 11, 2008

Great Navigation - Awesome features, very flexible, is WAAS-enabled and comes with a built-in USB cord for your Ipod or other MP3 Players. I've had this unit for about 3 weeks and I think it's great - It has an awesome security feature that you will not find anywhere else, the detachable faceplate. Another thing I like is the fact that the Dimmer and Night Modes have various options for you to choose from; and you have a sweet built in EQ to help add some punch to the sound.

What could they have done better? This unit does not allow for "dead reckoning" - what does this mean? It does not plug to your vehicle's speed sensor (VSS) and doesn't have a gyro, therefore, when you're in a tunnel, under an overpass or in an area with low satellite signal, it cannot detect your motion... You will get a "Lost GPS Signal" message until it's able to get signal again, which happens pretty quickly. Another thing that I started to notice recently is that there are times when it won't recognize your Ipod, so you have to shut it off and start the car back on again to make it work. The maps are nice, but could be more detailed, however, the navigation system is a breeze to use... and the responsive 7" widescreen plays DVDs at its best - I haven't fully enjoyed the system yet, but although it's got more features than any other systems on the market.

I think JVC dropped the ball on a few basics...

This is my first nav/dvd system and I installed it in a 2008 Chevy Silverado. Installation was not hard thanks to the instructions from Crutchfield. I have had the system for about 2 weeks now and it's been GREAT! The touch screen is nice to have and the fact that the systems face plate is removable is a good feature to have. I also added the Sirius sat radio, Ipod JVC KSU20 and the Hd radio accessory to this unit. All works so far. The monitor for this system when viewing movies/videos is very poor for my liking works great with Navigation. The operation for this system is very easy, took about a day to get familiar with all of its features

The navigation is great and has been spot on every time i have used it. Being able to enter the phone number for a POI and get the directions is a great feature and saves a lot of time.

Being able to play videos from the usb not just the DVD was important for me, unfortunately the bitrate for usb divx is rather low. Another significant feature for me was being able to remove the face plate.

The interface is very responsive unlike some of the newer pioneer HU's. The layout for control could have been laid out a bit nicer but it is useable and pretty straight forward.

My biggest gripe with it would be that the usb has to reindex everytime it is selected. So when your phone rings and your music mutes (with blutooth module) once the call is over you have to wait the 15 or so seconds before your music continues.

All in all though it is a very nice head unit and the price is very nice.

Excellent unit... highly recommended!!!

I had the unit for 1 month and I think is a great unit with a great price... but I found 3 small "details" with the unit that you should be aware of...

1. When you are using the bluetooth adapter and you are in a call... you cannot change the screen to "map". (but if you are already in the "map" screen and receive a call... you can still watching where you are going)
2. The iPod interface is really slow... and I mean SLOW... but works :)
3. It does not have iPhone support (but almost no navigation unit has it)

Daniel.

I have had the product installed for a couple of weeks and my overall impression of the unit is very favorable. The sound system is excellent. The navigation system is as good as any I have used (and thats quite a few). Some might find that the turn by turn voice is a little much (merge to the right, turn in 1.x miles, turn in .5 miles, turn now, etc....) but I find that it helpful and very accurate.

RDS Traffic information is great (at least in my area). We tend to have a bit of congestion most mornings and being able to bring up the traffic list when pulling out the driveway is nice to have. I have had the unit reroute me a couple of times and it appears to pick routes well.

I also have the Bluetooth option. The installer could not get my iPhone to pair to the system, but after reading the manual for 2 minutes I had it paired up fine. Good interface with the phone. The application will leverage as much data as the phone supports. In my case it gives access to all my call logs (for dialing) and my Phonebook. Couple of nitpicks with the phone application (some maybe I just have not figured out) 1.) How to "mute" the mic. 2.) How to dial digits after the call is connected (e.g. enter a passcode for a conference call)
Overall very happy with the purchase and as always, The Crutchfield buying experience was their usual "Excellent" experience.

Great navigation, but poor Bluetooth support

In addition to this unit, I own vehicles with BMW's navigation system, Toyota's navigation system and the Kenwood DNX8120 and by far I like this unit's navigation features the best. This unit displays the various lanes available at a highway interchange and show the lane(s) you need. I also like the proximity sensor that minimized the clutter on the screen unless you hand is within a few inches of the touch screen. Overall, great navigation features.

What I do NOT love about this unit is the Bluetooth support available through the KS-BTA200. It will not support an LG phone nor a Samsung phone that we have at all. Well, it will connect to them but then drops the connection after about 2 or 3 minutes. Kenwood doesn't even claim to support my LG phone. They do claim to support my Samsung phone, but with the following footnote: "Usable, but not stable". They claim to support my iPhone 3G, but frequently the Kenwood unit will not connect to my iPhone. And about 50% of the time I get in this vehicle, the Bluetooth Setup screen will not display as an option on Kenwood unit. I've had several discussions about this with Kenwood and all they say is "well, BT compatibility is not 100%". Kenwood support on this issue has been almost non- existant.

So if you want a great navigation system, I can highly recommend this unit. But if Bluetooth support is also important, stay away!

Very good overall but breaks no new ground

Written By Amphicar770, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Interface looks good, is intuitive, & easy to use. By comparison, Kenwood
menus are a mess (except for Navi which is Garmin) & often require you to
refer back to the manual. With JVC the manual is really not needed.

I am underwhelmed w/ how the NX7000 displays maps. Easy to read but
kind of dull, often just grey lines on a white background. There is no option
to show more or less detail. Unless you zoom way in to about 500 feet,
you do not even see road names, town names, etc., just grey lines. At
more than about 800 feet many roads vanish altogether. The 3D view is
even more disappointing.

Boo-hiss to JVC for not including RDS on FM. Thus it does not display the
song, artist, or station information. Kenwood provides this feature. JVC has
it for HD Radio only.

The JVC bluetooth module works great.

I have not yet installed the HD radio module as required antenna splitter
(KS-U21) is virtually unobtainable at this time. There is no front stereo jack
& rigging it to the rear is yet another $40 cable.

It looks good. In some vehicles, the removable screen may stick out a bit
more from the dash than some other units and may thus look less factory.

If this were the same price as the DNX I would call it a toss up. You are
trading some features for others so it is a matter of what is more important
to you. If I were to get another GPS today, at current prices, I would likely
go w/ the Kenwood
