Legendary sound

Infinity's Kappa Series 60.11cs 6-1/2" component speakers continue in the tradition of this legendary line of speakers, offering rugged construction and impressive sound quality. Large soft dome tweeters

If you're looking for natural-sounding high frequencies, Infinity uses edge-driven 3/4" soft dome tweeters in this system. The "edge-driven" design results in a larger tweeter that handles more power and delivers smooth response way down into midrange frequencies not covered by smaller "W"-shaped domes. You'll hear a more clearly defined soundstage where you can picture the placement of every instrument. Infinity includes hardware for surface- or flush-mounting the tweeters, plus Starfish brackets that help you install the tweeters in many factory tweeter openings.

Glass fiber woofer with Plus One+ technology

If you like bass, the Kappa glass fiber woofer holds its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fiber weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer. Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you more surface area than with most comparable speakers. A bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response. The included external crossovers send the appropriate frequencies to the tweeters and woofers.

Great for any system

These 2-ohm speakers are sensitive enough that you can power them with an aftermarket stereo, but you'll get your best results feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp — up to 90 watts RMS. Grilles are included.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Woofers

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One woofer cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Formed Glass Fiber Woofer Cones: The formed glass fiber cone material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

iCGM frames: The Kappa series speaker baskets are made of composite Injected Carbon Glass Matrix (iCGM). iCGM is lighter and stronger than stamped steel; it retains its shape, even when mounted on uneven surfaces (common in car mounting locations), plus offers exceptional damping of any resonances.

Woofer Size: This component set is marketed as having 6-1/2" woofers; they will fit in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings (approximately 5" diameter), but do not use the standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern. In order to install them in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings you must drill new screw holes. If new holes are drilled in the mounting surface of the car, no bracket is needed. If drilling in the car is not an option, the included brackets can be used, which have standard 6-1/2" mounting holes and the Ford non-symmetric four hole pattern. When using the brackets the depth becomes 1.885" and the mounting height becomes 0.773".

Terminals: The woofers' input terminals are gold-plated set screws that will accept up to 12 gauge bare wire.

High-Output Design: The high output 2-ohm voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers). The speaker's 2.0-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of the factory speaker wire presents a true 4-ohm load to your connected headunit or amplifier. The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2-ohm load.

Tweeters

Edge Driven: The 3/4" edge-driven tweeters use textile soft domes. An edge-driven tweeter has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity.

Tweeter Mounting: The I-Mount tweeter mounting system and Starfish mounting brackets give you several different ways to mount the tweeters:

  • I-Mount Tweeter Mounting System: The tweeters can be surface or flush mounted with Infinity's innovative I-Mount system:
    • Surface Mount: Surface mounting the tweeters involves screwing the surface-mount cup to the mounting location, then inserting and locking the tweeter into the cup.
    • Flush Mount: Flush mounting is made easy through the use of the threaded flush-mount adapter and plastic locking nut. Once a cutout is made, the flush-mount adapter (with the tweeter installed) is inserted into the hole. The large plastic locking nut is threaded onto the adapter (from behind the mounting surface) to hold the complete assembly securely in place. When flush mounted, the tweeters may be angled for optimum response and imaging.
  • Starfish Mounting Brackets: The Starfish mounting brackets allow the tweeters to be installed in factory locations behind the grilles:
    • Surface Mount (behind grille panel): Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is screwed to the mounting surface behind the grille panel. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.
    • Flush Mount (behind grille panel): Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is dropped into the cutout in the mounting surface behind the grille panel. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.
    • Bottom Mount (to grille panel): Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is secured to the underside of the grille panel. The tweeter must be inserted into the bracket and locked into place before the bracket is mounted.
    • Flush Mount (in-dash location): Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is dropped into the cutout in the dash. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.

Crossovers

Crossovers: The crossovers use low-loss air core inductors, low-hysteresis polypropylene capacitors, and high-quality resistors. Each crossover has a tweeter output level switch; choose between flat and +3dB.

Connections: Each crossover has set screw input and output terminals that will accept up to 10 gauge bare wire.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Length: 3-3/16"
  • Width: 4"
  • Height: 1-3/8"

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the RMS power handling as 90 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-200 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 90 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.

I never heard the 60.9's, but I can tell you the 60.11's are well balanced in the front doors of my Chevy Cobalt. I am using them with 693.11I's in the rear deck.

Would like to install in a 2001 Trans Am with the Monsoon option, but the factory Monsoon rear seat woofers have 4 wires instead of 2. I believe the factory woofers are 2 ohm units, so I'm looking at this speaker model but not sure about the 4 wires. Anyone have any experience replacing the factory 4 wire Monsoon speakers?

I don't have any experience with this vehicle but I can offer some advice. What I would do personally is. Have the rear of the speaker exposed and clip a wire. Just one and see if a tweeter or a woofer shuts off. My guess is there is an additional speaker attached. You can always re-solder it.
michael  Dec 14, 2017

Speakers with 4 wires usually means that they have a separate Amp connected to them. Hope this helps. JPB

Sorry, I installed these speakers in a 2010 Cobalt, plus I used amps with my own wiring. Good luck with your install.

I'm a bit confused. On the Infinity web site, they say that it will fit a Hyundai Veloster turbo 2014 (8 speakers) but here, it says that it won't. Could someone help me on this?
sylvain  Jun 27, 2017

A
Sure. We found the Kappa midbass drivers require more clearance than what's available under the factory grill covers in 2014 Veloster.

Q
do you have any idea what the sound would be like in 06 dts cadillac with bose? Hooked to the factory bose amp. How would that particular amp push them since I cant find any specs on it? Also can that bose amp be benched to find out its specs?

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

I see the terminals on these speakers are a bit different than the typical prong connections. What speaker connectors would I use for these being the screw terminals?

I just twisted the speaker wire tip up tight and inserted it into the slot. A few turns of the screw pinches the wire down and keeps it just fine. No problems.

Sorry Ben, I had someone else install my system for me. All I can tell you is they sound incredible. Sorry I was no help.
christopher  Jun 07, 2016

The beauty of these kinds of terminals is that you don't need a connector . Simply strip the wire insert and tighten the screw down . Some people like to tint the end of the wire with solder, I don't like to do this however because it creates a hard in flexible surface for the screw to tighten down on.

When I looked on the manual for these infinity kappa 60.11cs, it says recommended 5watts - 200watts rms. Also, it says peak 270 watts and continuous 90watts at 2 ohms so I want to know is, what is the safest rms wattage to power these speakers without underpowering them or over power them? Thanks.

I didn't buy them for power handling but spl i was looking for sound quality at some loud playing but not constant.

I ran an alpine deck with mine that was rated 25 Watts per Chan max which means about 17 Watts rms. I had two subs for my bass with an 1000 watt class D amp hooked only to the subs. I ran 4 Kappas in the door and sounds great. Great for muds and highs but don't expect much bass
eric  Feb 01, 2016
A
Not sure how to answer this question, however, I am running a punch 1000x5 channel amp (set at125 watts RMS x 4 + 300 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms) powering these kappas. These speakers have no problem handling this abuse.
thomas  Feb 01, 2016
A
I am running these speakers at 90 watts rms at 2 ohms with an amp that can safely run at 2 ohms. The amp is rated at 100 watts rms so it matches well with this speaker and sounds great. If you buy these speaker, make sure the amp you are running is safe to run at 2 ohms. Some Amps can run at 4 ohms and 2 ohms. I would not run these speakers straight from a radio or an amp that is only supposed to be ran at 4 ohms. These speakers would pull to much power from your radio or amp and could ruin them. Try to Match speaker rms and amp rms to get the best out your amp and speakers. Since these speakers are meant to be used at 2 ohms, use with an amp that is safe to use at two ohms.
